I think he would be.

Also, from what I have read, he's a very good RF and has a strong arm. I'd say that's far away from being bad at baseball. His K rate has always been the problem. If he can even make a slight improvement in that area, he'd be a productive player. With the likes of Paul Campbell, Daniel Castano, Sean Guenther, Isan Diaz, and Jerar Encarnacion all still on the 40 man roster, I'd say it's a good bet that we protect Conine before Friday.
November 17, 20214 yr Author I am working under the hopeful assumption that we will protect him before the deadline, but that we are in no rush to do so. Maybe a trade materializes before then which opens a spot.

Power is his only projectable tool, but how hard he hits the ball doesn't matter when he rarely actually hits the ball. He has a strong arm but is an average fielder at best, and very very few guys with astronomical K rates like his suddenly figure it out when the pitching gets better at higher levels. He was also very old for the competition in 2021. Now, all that being said, one good tool (power) is certainly better than zero even average tools like the guys you mentioned. So do I think Conine should be protected? Yes. Do I think it matters if he isn't and gets claimed? No. His career upside is a guy like Jack Cust.

I mean if my option is to protect Isan Diaz (the GOAT) or Griffin Conine, then i'm all for protecting Conine. It really comes down to whom loses the 40 man spot for Conine if its worth it. I guess.

November 18, 20214 yr There are only 5 guys that I can see as possibly protected, but I doubt it will end up being all 5. The guys, and I put them in order of most to least likely, are Griffin Conine, Bryson Brigman, Tommy Eveld, Luis Palacios, and Jake Fishman.

November 18, 20214 yr While they are removing Isan from the 40, they might as well remove Monte Harrison as well, tbqh.

November 18, 20214 yr Unbelievable, nobody sees the name of “Sean Guenther ” in the 40 man roster ? anybody gives me a reason he's still over there. Edited November 18, 20214 yr by taiwanmarlin

November 18, 20214 yr I'd rather give Griffen a roster spot for a month or two, then dredge up some more crap that has been floating around Little Havana recently. If he succeeds, you have a star in this market and you create the first of its kind "Gneration to Generation" Bridge for this team. If he fails, atleast he failed for you and you dont have to worry about what if's. Just give the kid a chance lol.
