I'd still like to see them sign Conforto for a couple years even with an overpay. He can usually post a decent obp% and has some power to boot which is a bit different than what we currently have. I know it won't get us to the playoffs but I'm starting to settle for at least having a team worth watching. Conforto and a decent trade could make them watchable at least.

This is all a very tricky subject especially in baseball. 

Yeah, I imagine it would have to be based on rolling averages, perhaps over 5 years. And then something incremental to bring it back above the floor. Then you have penalties if teams don’t hit certain benchmarks, ie fines, lose draft picks, even forced sale if it gets bad enough.

Or you can simply set a floor and your team is only allowed to dip below it once every 5 seasons or something to permit teams to retool and whatnot or be penalized starting with loss of first and second round picks.

Yeah, for sure.  I do see something changing at least on the upper end with Cohen's absurd spending, though.

I'd believe it.  I think I saw something the other day that Correa's deal alone was more than the Marlins entire payrolls for the last 5-6 years or something like that.

I don't love it given the questionable recent history (I'd have preferred other options that have since signed)....but maybe give him.....4 with opt outs after year 2, maybe another after year 1?

Well someone posted it earlier he was seeking more of a short term prove it type of deal which is why the Marlins should go with an overpayment on a 2yr deal with maybe a club option on the third if he'd accept.  He's better than what they have and is usually a pretty consistent player. He'd be an upgrade to the lineup.

I can echo that sentiment regarding the position players but there’s definitely a lot of promise in the pitching department.  Eury, Eder, Meyer (when he gets back), and Fulton are all really good arms in the pipeline. Sixto is definitely not part of my future expectations though lol

I know, you're right.

It's just hard to have much optimism when there's been literally no results for upgrading the lineup, when that's the primary thing we've needed the last 2 years.

Best case scenario for Sixto is that he's that character in a movie that leaves early in the film and everyone forgets about him but he shows up in the final moments of the climactic battle to be the final winning piece of the puzzle.

I thought Meyer looked pretty hittable when he was up and that was before he got injured. I don't see him as much more than a middle relief guy. I guess we'll see about the others although there were a lot of other hyped prospects before last season that ultimately sucked so I have almost no faith in them at this point. Such is my jaded view - and again, without upgrading the lineup it's going to be an avalanche of 1 and 2 run losses with scintillating scores of 3-2, 2-1 etc

Maybe Kim is trying to be this character......nothing happens and then she swoops in at the last minute and makes all these moves, and then does the explosion walkaway....
