Spend big and this team have Abreu and Turner /Bogaerts and they would be a consistent winner.

Can't grouse now as those guys are not available. They do need a winner and even then theyll still have to put up with bad attendance numbers for at least a couple seasons until the team can show they're consistently winning and prove that they're not gonna dump high priced guys when given the chance. Every owner that comes in though seems to want the paying customers first before putting out a consistently good product. It doesn't work that way though.

Beats me. The roster is made up of Cuban residents and MLB players who are still cozy with the government. The majority of Cuban players in the US presumably weren't allowed to participate.

I can't even imagine how jacked Jose would have been to participate in the wbc

Wrong. These people would show up to the Marlins if the Marlins were a consistent winner, the payroll doesn't matter.

True, but dropping a Correa on this roster for additional payroll helps push toward a consistent winner.

BUT to your point, payroll on its own doesn't matter - the Rays prove that year in year out.

Yeah, not with what Marlins/south Florida fans have been put through.  The winning has to happen first, and they don't seem to understand that.

Cuba still participates in international baseball tournaments and this is considered that so they're allowed to participate. The rosters in the first four WBC were only of actual "current" Cuban players, meaning people still living on the island, people still playing baseball in Cuba. After disappointing play in the last 3 WBC the Cuban government opened the roster up to defected Cuban players that they deemed suitable to play for them aka those who didn't leave under sketchy circumstances aka those who still support their shit government. In that sense it's worked as they played better and made it to the semi finals. They're still overmatched compared to any roster of actual MLB all stars, and honestly they barely made it out of their pool via a tiebreaker and were a run away from losing to Australia, a team with only a couple of major leaguers. Cuba generally fares much better in international competition since that doesn't have major leaguers and so the talent level is more even.

Correa would likely bring us more wins yes but the winning needs to happen, @TaiwanMarlins makes it sound like just raise payroll and people will show up. Hell with that logic Bruce Sherman has already raised payroll so shouldn't we have an attendance increase already?

Technically, attendance did increase last year vs. the year before lol.

These are fun for being some meaningless games.

I get it so it's not to argue you specifically but for the sake of conversation....at what point is any game not meaningless? What makes a game significant or not? Aren't all games essentially meaningless? So beyond that it's kinda subjective as to what games are meaningful.

Yes the easy stance is that if it doesn't count towards MLB standings or MLB postseason then it's meaningless.

But anyone watching these WBC games would be a fool to not realize that these players give a shit about this and because of that then so do the fans. There is also a significant difference between the attendance and TV ratings of many of these games compared to a huge chunk of games within the MLB season.

So these intense WBC games are meaningless but a boring ass Marlns vs Pirates game on a random Tuesday in August would be considered meaningful?

It's ridiculous.

All professional baseball games are just entertainment so none of them are truly meaningful so from there it's just about enjoying the game. Considering how much people enjoy these games then to truthfully consider these WBC games meaningless would be so ignorant.

He's mocking the Keith Olbermann's of the world who say this tournament is unnecessary and "divisive" by having players play "for the place where their grandmother's got laid."

Totally forgot to ask this but, serious question for @TaiwanMarlins, did you watch any of the Taipei WBC games? Do you watch any CPBL baseball? The WBC broadcasts for the Taipei games made a big deal of Li Lin and he looked like such a star whenever I saw him. Any knowledge or interest in him? Or is your baseball life limited to just Marlins pain and suffering?
