Ranked 17th in ERA in mlb. Pretty significant regression there.

what should the team do?

Nothing to do now.  A lot of young arms beyond their previous inning highs, so they're tired.

Yeah, this team have every reason to go all- in to acquire Lorenzen but they don't.

The only thing they can do is skip a few starts, and let guys like Soriano and Hoeing start a few games, and pray for the best.  Maybe even bring up someone from the minors for a game.

Yup, we get it lol.

Why do you see it as significant regression? They were only 14th last year. ERAs are up across the league with no shifts and bigger bases, and yet there WHIP only went from 1.27 to 1.28.

For starting pitchers only, we are 13th in ERA, 8th in FIP, 4th in xFIP, 8th in WHIP, and 5th in SIERA, and 10th in WPA.

Interestingly, 29th/30 hard hit % allowed, yet lowest line drive % allowed in the majors. Any explanation for that?

30/30 pull % allowed, 3rd highest ground ball %.

Does this mean they’re giving up lots of hard hit ground balls? If that’s the case, then perhaps a killer defensive SS could be a huge value add.

Phillies acquire Lorenzen for a "Taiwan" prospect, and they're much better now. C'mon it's just a Taiwan prospect, how good would a Taiwan prospect be !? and we can't beat that !? just UNFORGIVABLE ! ! ! ! !

It could mean that our defense sucks, which it does.

Pull every starter at the first sign of trouble and prepare for next season. They're out of gas. You have to keep stretching them out but limit the high stress situations.

They will be better next year. I'm pretty satisfied with the way this team is built now, minus SS and C. They need to upgrade that and spend the rest of the time building a great bullpen

Pal what happens after they go 1-5 on this road trip?

Well if that happens, then we look at the standings and see where they are. But I personally find it ridiculous to declare a season done while basically tied for a playoff spot.

How does anything I said actually make the team worse this season? The SP is falling apart. They're losing the games for us. Pulling them early isn't a declaration that the season is done. It probably is an improvement.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty confident this team will miss the playoffs. Look at our schedule vs the teams we're competing with for the WC spot. If that offends someone's sensibilities, then I'm terribly not sorry. It's reality.

Turn back time to the trade deadline and acquire Michael Lorenzen ...damn, this team just not determined.

Kim Ng did so much more than most other teams this deadline yet they miss out on one guy and it means she's not determined? What?

Not to mention, Lorenzen is a name that came up basically on the last day and now all of the sudden he was must have and a huge disaster of a miss. I'm sure @TaiwanMarlins saw that no-hitter coming though since he is from the future as we all know.

I believe she think this team have the best rotation in the league.

This team needed bats more than anything and they got them. Lorenzen was nothing more than an average pitcher at best before this season. I'm completely fine with the Marlins not going "all in" for a guy who has spent most of his career as a reliever and is suddenly having one decent season as a starter at 31 years old.

And better than Cueto, Cabrera and "second half season" Luzardo so that's a boost to our rotation, we need hitting but we need pitching, too.

You can't just go all in for every player especially rentals

I think she knows this rotation needs help. But this bullpen and this offense also needed help she did A LOT to address those needs. Her not getting Lorenzen or any other SP doesn't mean she wasn't trying for one or that she was ok with her rotation. Sure, you have a right to be bothered that they didn't get a SP but you always make it sound like these things happen because Kim didn't want or care to do so. That's not how this works.
