October 25, 20232 yr So is there any news regarding who we might be interested in for the POBO role? I saw Bloom and Mejdal mentioned on here but I haven’t seen anything in the way of rumors for interviews or even interest.

October 26, 20232 yr If the Marlins even let the Padres interview Skip, it reflects poorly on the direction of this franchise. Unless Skip outright says he'd want to go there, they can't entertain this. With that said, I full expect a clean slate from this directionless franchise going into next year, New PBO, Manager and GM. With none of the noise of who we're interviewing, I have a feeling its already been figured out who. ***Bah GAWD, thats Mike Hills music!!!****
October 26, 20232 yr I'm sure plenty of teams are asking to interview Skip, doesn't hurt to ask, but like in the case of Melvin, you only let them interview if you're ok with them leaving and I can't see Sherman wanting Skip to leave. Seems like a non story.

He's pretty much been an every other year type of guy for a while now so I could absolutely see him signing a deal for like 2/40 or 3/50 and absolutely falling on his face next season. If he'll take something like 2/25 I would take him back, but I guarantee another team blows that out of the water.

He had a great season with us (although did fall off from his power surge earlier in the season). But yeah he's not good defensively, he's going to get paid MUCH more than he deserves in a thin FA market, and his career has been very up and (moreso) down. Again, would rather focus on finding some speed/obp% guy with a renewed focus on putting guys in motion.

Several other big spenders also didn't make the playoffs. Seeing a big number for payroll isn't everything. A competent GM using funds well is more important.

None of those three teams even made the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Rays and Orioles were 28th and 29th and finished with two of the best records in baseball.
