UpperDeckFishTank
On the bright side our team speed, baserunning, and defense improved, and that was what we needed to improve. Yea he was DH but now we can use DH on our next poor fielder and we have lots more of them to choose from.

rmc523
There's still the option to offer him a QO, which is $20.325 M this year.

I'd be surprised if they don't offer that. He may decline it anyway, but they'd get a pick at least then. Opting out was obviously a no-brainer for him. I'd offer him it and I'd also anticipate him turning it down. Coming off 2023, he should be able to land a multi-year deal somewhere. Do you want him to leave, too? Don't get me wrong: I am absolutely not advocating overpaying for Soler. I think some dumb team will overpay and give him something like 2/40 or 3/50, which I would be perfectly fine not matching. But sorry, your logic is a pretty silly way of looking at things. Power does matter, and if Soler is willing to take something like 2/25, I would take him back (provided that the Marlins spend money in other places, of course). Yeah I'm not okay with giving Soler $20 million, even if it's just for one year. Maybe $13-15 million for one season, but certainly not $20 million. He'll probably get a multi-year deal anyway. LordMagnus
They better get someone else who can slug. Soler is far from a complete player but this team severely lacks in power hitting. The offense could actually get worse next year.

Yeah without Soler (and maybe Bell as well), going to be tough to find replacements for that power.

Let's sign Billy Hamilton to play ALL positions - speed, baserunning, and defense immediately improved everywhere - offseason done. Where do I sign my GM contract?

rmc523
Despite our results this past season, it's pretty crazy that we still have most of the same holes in the lineup/field as 3 years ago.

Because they reluctant to spend, Rangers buy the WS title and Marlins also do it in the 1997.

So every aspect of the game that the DH has zero effect on? DH dont have to run on bases??? I thought they only didnt field I didnt know they also dont run on the bases. And yes the DH does have effect on defense because the worst fielder is the DH. If you lose your DH, that means your next worse fielder becomes the DH. Unless the player who replaces Soler on the roster has worse defense than the next worse fielder who will become DH, then YES, crazy as it might sound your defense improves. Even tho as u say, DH has no effect on fielding. It does indirectly. And obviously DH still runs on bases....
