Cody Bellinger

he'll hit like .200 with 20 homers next year and then get injured the next year. i wouldnt sign a guy like bellinger, these guys have huge years in their contract year and then go back to sucking. idk what it is, maybe motivation, maybe PED usage in contract years, maybe he got covid in the brain that took a couple years to improve, focus, whatever it is i wouldnt sign these guys who have a good year after a string of bad years. it never works. they always say in their slump during the games 'the back of the baseball card says they will turn it around', it never does.

On the bright side our team speed, baserunning, and defense improved, and that was what we needed to improve. Yea he was DH but now we can use DH on our next poor fielder and we have lots more of them to choose from.

Our speed and baserunning and defense improved because we lost our DH? So every aspect of the game that the DH has zero effect on?

I'd be hesitant to offer given his history of on-off years.

Yeah true but it is another contract year at least.

I'd offer him it and I'd also anticipate him turning it down. Coming off 2023, he should be able to land a multi-year deal somewhere.

By that logic, if Josh Bells also opts out, our speed, baserunning and defense will improve. Do you want him to leave, too?

Don't get me wrong: I am absolutely not advocating overpaying for Soler. I think some dumb team will overpay and give him something like 2/40 or 3/50, which I would be perfectly fine not matching.

But sorry, your logic is a pretty silly way of looking at things. Power does matter, and if Soler is willing to take something like 2/25, I would take him back (provided that the Marlins spend money in other places, of course).

Yeah I'm not okay with giving Soler $20 million, even if it's just for one year. Maybe $13-15 million for one season, but certainly not $20 million. He'll probably get a multi-year deal anyway.

Let's sign Billy Hamilton to play ALL positions - speed, baserunning, and defense immediately improved everywhere - offseason done.

Where do I sign my GM contract?

DH dont have to run on bases??? I thought they only didnt field I didnt know they also dont run on the bases. And yes the DH does have effect on defense because the worst fielder is the DH. If you lose your DH, that means your next worse fielder becomes the DH. Unless the player who replaces Soler on the roster has worse defense than the next worse fielder who will become DH, then YES, crazy as it might sound your defense improves. Even tho as u say, DH has no effect on fielding. It does indirectly. And obviously DH still runs on bases....
