Luzardo traded to Phillies

Welcome Starlyn Caba and Emaarion Boyd.

Caba is a huge get. Several years off but this is the potential lottery ticket we need. One of the best gloves in all of baseball. Boyd fits our profile of speed and defense as well.

Caba straight up would be an overpay by the Phillies. Will be fun to watch him grow and develop as a player.

We are sticking to the plan. Bendix said we are going for younger prospects and our stash is starting to get loaded with athletes and good fielders. That is the secret sauce.

Wish Luzardo well in Philly. Funny that in a way we ended up trading Starling for Starlyn.

Yet another Bendix masterclass.

Let’s go Fish!

If he reaches his ceiling he’ll make a great deadline pick up for a real major league team in 2030!

Is your name Bruce by chance?

100% Agree with this. At least we had hope before. Hope for a new stadium, hope for a new TV deal and hope for a new owner.

Well, we got all of that and nothing fucking changed. There's nothing left to hope for. I guess we can hope for another owner again? It just gets old.

Plus at least loris would go nuts every so often and spend a bit (before trading them away)

This has been the most fucking pointless sell off of them all.

Its all because Bruce Sherman is too broke to afford a low middle market payroll of $120-$140 million dollars.

Jeffrey Loria yet again with this final fuck you to the Marlins by selling to Derek Jeter cause he was a Marlins fan and good on MLB for really doing full investigation and Due Diligence into this ownership group, but hey its Derek Jeter so all in!

MLB doesn’t care about who owns a team as long as the check clears.

Look at the McCourt situation in LA, or the former Mets owners losing a bunch of money to Bernie Madoff

They dont care once you are in the club, this is accurate.

They tend to be far more mindful when someone is trying to get into the club, see Reinsdorf blocking Cuban from buying the Pirates back in the day.

But it was Jeter so they looked the other way, even though reports were the Mas offer was for a higher amount of money.

Luzardo will be on the DL at some point during the season.

I fucking hate Bendix and I hate what he’s done to this team. I was there opening day 1993 and I’m done. Bendix is such an insufferable prick and I hate his guts.

Let’s Go Mets

Don’t understand how Luzardo is only worth one high variance 19 year old prospect when he has 2 years of cheap control. Look at how much good lefties are making in FA. Feels incredibly forced like the Burger trade. Very lame.

With Luzardo’s projected $6 million salary purged from the payroll, the Marlins are projected to have a $64 million big-league payroll, per fangraphs.com. That would be the lowest in baseball as it stands. That $64 million includes $12 million for Avasail Garcia (who was released earlier this year) and $3 million owed to the Yankees and Giancarlo Stanton in 2025, many years after that 2017 trade sent the slugger to the Bronx.

Asked if he plans to spend more money or has the authority from owner Bruce Sherman to do so, Bendix replied: “I’m not going to comment on what we might or might not do. Bruce continues to give us all the resources we need to build this franchise for sustainable success.”

LOL…..sure he does.

So basically we’re at $49M for current players after subtracting the $15M for Avisuck and Stanton, and trade our roster for fliers and hope of possibly being competitive in another 3 years…..BS

I am honestly a bit baffled by why you and others don’t understand that there is a long-term plan for sustainability. I get that yet another rebuild is frustrating but given the resources and dearth of depth in the farm system when he took over it was yet again necessary. He’s been very transparent with what he is doing: building by going young, getting toolsy players with high upside, investing in infrastructure in the player development and international complexes, and seeking value and controllable years through peak performance versus negative resource allocation and declining performances.

The only thing he has been evasive on is if they are going to spend money and that is not his call, it is the owners. He’s not going to come out and say our owner won’t give me money to chase free agents and large contracts because no one would call out their employer in that position. Instead, he is pivoting to a sustainable long-term strategy to win.

1) Your anger is misplaced. If you hate Sherman because he is cheap. Fine. If you hate Jeter because he is and always will be incompetent. Fine. If you hate Kim Ng because you are misogynistic so be it, your insecurities don’t bother us .I don’t care if he looks like a geek because if and when he wins we could care less if he looks like Lurch or Quasimodo.

2) IF you hate analytics, I understand. So do I. However, the way forward in all sports is a deep dive into data and no teams will win without a solid investment in this area. I question if you and others even know how to analyze a player’s value when the moves we have made have been universally praised by those looking at it through unbiased and knowledgeable eyes. We tend to overrate and get emotionally attached to players on our team instead of looking at them from a value standpoint.

3) The way forward is to not only embrace this mathematical side of the sport but also to stay ahead or find a niche that other teams are not utilizing to our advantage. If you pay attention to the types of players we are acquiring and apply some critical thinking you can see the intended direction.

Every trade is not the end of the world, prospect valuations vary wildly but the woe is me act gets wild. I’d rather you provide some insight as to what you would do differently and back it up with some statistical evidence than take your ball and go home.

You have been Day 1-ish, I have been day 1-ish as well. Stick around and see this through man. It won’t be overnight but it’s gonna be a helluva ride.

Let’s go Fish.

Lots of confirmation bias based solely on 2022 Luzardo thinking that can be replicated going forward along with some blind loyalty fandom.

Luzardo was supposed to go to the Cubs before this when the trade fell apart due to physical fitness concerns with one of the players. They never said explicitly who it was but Occam’s Razor tells you it wasn’t Owen Caissie or James Traintos.

Not sure if you understand the valuation and the metrics involved in a top prospect under the age of 20. These are a very small group and it is usually either a top 10 draft pick or one of the major international signings. I believe there are around 11 players ranked above Caba still in their teens and these are the “untouchables” that are deemed as future superstars, not stars, superstars. They won’t all succeed but these player’s future potential value far exceeds their relative inexperience.

It was a stupid and foolish move for the Phillies to even consider giving up Caba. It was a severe overpay on their part for a pitcher with the lengthy injury history of Luzardo (early TJ, elbow and forearm tightness, lumbar stress, and rotator cuff strains= recipe for a ticking time bomb, I.e. TJ surgery #2 in the future).

Bendix should be hailed for such a fleecing but instead the recliner crowd decides because they haven’t heard or seen of these players we must have lost the trade or panicked. I assure you based on the model we are using, utilizing a consistent strategy will result in sustained winning in the near future.

Is the Luzardo health thing real? I read in twitter about it but dong see if confirmed?

Cabo is a high floor low ceiling guy. Maybe the new player development approach gets him to stop hitting low EV grounds 95% of time.

either way, daddy dix strategy is to intentional lose for higher draft picks at least to 2027 and prob 2028. That’s not fun at all to watch as a fan

60 loss team by 2028.

10 game improvement every year.

You heard it here first.

And last.

Are you in danger, Michael??? Call me anytime. 954-867-5309

The Marlins could have built up the system via draft and international signings and won at the same time instead of selling off all the current parts because they were going to be due money soon.

Newsflash:

You can both WIN NOW and build for the future at the same time. Successful organizations do it all the time. Its not like the Marlins had a lot of money on the books, they were just needing to act like a low mid market team in terms of spending. Heck, they keep togehter then 2022 roster and add a few parts, they are still competing and they are still with a payroll south of $150 million.

Yet, here we are. This is all due to Bruce Sherman having the inability to stomach paying around $140 million in payroll. Hooray.
