The Marlins could have built up the system via draft and international signings and won at the same time instead of selling off all the current parts because they were going to be due money soon.

Newsflash:

You can both WIN NOW and build for the future at the same time. Successful organizations do it all the time. Its not like the Marlins had a lot of money on the books, they were just needing to act like a low mid market team in terms of spending. Heck, they keep togehter then 2022 roster and add a few parts, they are still competing and they are still with a payroll south of $150 million.

Yet, here we are. This is all due to Bruce Sherman having the inability to stomach paying around $140 million in payroll. Hooray.

Seems like Bruce gonna have choice soon cause they get like $70m in revenue sharing. MLB gonna file a grievance

Its probably going to be closer to $80 million.

And yes MLBPA will be filing that grievance sooner over later.

As they damn well should! At this point, throw the book at them! What's the worst that happens? We lose more?

I am honestly a bit baffled by why you and others don’t understand that there is a long-term plan for sustainability. I get that yet another rebuild is frustrating but given the resources and dearth of depth in the farm system when he took over it was yet again necessary. He’s been very transparent with what he is doing: building by going young, getting toolsy players with high upside, investing in infrastructure in the player development and international complexes, and seeking value and controllable years through peak performance versus negative resource allocation and declining performances.

The only thing he has been evasive on is if they are going to spend money and that is not his call, it is the owners. He’s not going to come out and say our owner won’t give me money to chase free agents and large contracts because no one would call out their employer in that position. Instead, he is pivoting to a sustainable long-term strategy to win.

1) Your anger is misplaced. If you hate Sherman because he is cheap. Fine. If you hate Jeter because he is and always will be incompetent. Fine. If you hate Kim Ng because you are misogynistic so be it, your insecurities don’t bother us .I don’t care if he looks like a geek because if and when he wins we could care less if he looks like Lurch or Quasimodo.

2) IF you hate analytics, I understand. So do I. However, the way forward in all sports is a deep dive into data and no teams will win without a solid investment in this area. I question if you and others even know how to analyze a player’s value when the moves we have made have been universally praised by those looking at it through unbiased and knowledgeable eyes. We tend to overrate and get emotionally attached to players on our team instead of looking at them from a value standpoint.

3) The way forward is to not only embrace this mathematical side of the sport but also to stay ahead or find a niche that other teams are not utilizing to our advantage. If you pay attention to the types of players we are acquiring and apply some critical thinking you can see the intended direction.

Every trade is not the end of the world, prospect valuations vary wildly but the woe is me act gets wild. I’d rather you provide some insight as to what you would do differently and back it up with some statistical evidence than take your ball and go home.

You have been Day 1-ish, I have been day 1-ish as well. Stick around and see this through man. It won’t be overnight but it’s gonna be a helluva ride.

Let’s go Fish.

Because it’s the 35th “long term plan for sustainability” in the last few years that never lead anywhere.

Apparently you just became a fan yesterday and are drinking the kool aid.

Das has this one right - there were plenty of opportunities to keep what we had AND rebuild by supplanting the existing roster with additional good players (multiple FAs at positions of need have been available the last few years if we had a halfway decent owner that would spend a lower mid-pack payroll), while rebuilding through drafts…….instead it’s the latest scorched earth plan that we’re supposed to yet again blindly believe because “RAYS”.

And daddy dix continually lying and saying they wanted to win now and improve the mlb roster when the plan from day 1 was to trade everyone and tear it all down. The fact he presents as smarmy ass know it all nerd doesn’t help

How r u old pal

I'm doing well, buddy. Thanks for asking. Hope all is well with you.

I'm trying to get back into the spirit of baseball but this team makes it fucking hard. LOL

Starlyn Caba? Fuckin Bendix heard someone at the cafeteria saying “Cuba has talent, they should go get Cubans”.

He went to Google, typed in “Stars Cuba” and it suggested he search for this guy and here we are.

Is the Luzardo health thing real? I read in twitter about it but dong see if confirmed?

Cabo is a high floor low ceiling guy. Maybe the new player development approach gets him to stop hitting low EV grounds 95% of time.

either way, daddy dix strategy is to intentional lose for higher draft picks at least to 2027 and prob 2028. That’s not fun at all to watch as a fan

Honestly, no one can say for sure except the teams but if you look at Luzardo’s history it doesn’t take too much critical thinking to realize he is very high risk going forward.

Caba is the real deal. He is 18 and playing with guys 5 years older than him. Is that a guarantee he turns into a star, a superstar or even a solid major league. No. There is no way of knowing that. But believe me his upside is very high and “baseball people” rave about his skill set. We should be really excited to see if he can develop into a star.

The die was cast last year when Sandy and Eury went down. Everyone forgets we had 8 starters on the DL last year. Did that cause a pivot in strategy, probably. The key words are “sustained success”. This is an actual plan in motion.

I have a Clemente Nunez rookie card and remember an expansion draft party with Teel and Silver streamers and balloons, so no I am no Johnny Come Lately.

All of us, including me, remember the continual rebuilds. Yes, it is painful. I am trying to explain why this one is different but everyone keeps getting fixated on the aberration of 2023 and can’t see the forest for the trees. Provide some factual evidence and I will listen. If not, cry into your teal pillow and wake up on Groundhog’s Day.

We haven’t succeeded in the past because:

A) We were cheap

B) We didn’t develop players

C) Our scouting department both domestically and internationally was woefully underfunded and at times an outright joke.

D) We didn’t play to our ball park’s strengths.

E) Our outlook was short-term myopic instead of long-term sustainability focused.

B through E have been addressed.

A is out of everyone but one person’s control.

It takes time.

We should be over the moon we finally have someone competent.

Instead we cry into our Teal pillow.

LET”S GO FISH!

To be fair, an offensive ceiling of Edwards with elite defense at short is like a 6+ WAR player. But yeah being 3ish years out makes it a big gamble.

Let’s develop one hitter before we say B is fixed…

There are no signs that “A” has motives or will improve, and it’s the one that affects all of the others.

E is conclusory and therefore basically an empty statement,

What proof do we have on B-D?

Maybe more funding re: C, but that doesn’t mean it’s any better.

We have an offense with little to no pop, so I guess you’re translating that into D? Tbh this team seems unlikely to be really good at much of anything.

Nobody except the FO seemingly forgot about our starters being down. They decided to blow it up, not us. They could’ve complemented the pitching with bats, but chose to blow it up.

B through E haven’t “been addressed” until we actually see results from it. They may be spending more on C, but we have nothing to prove it works.

I haven’t seen anyone so homer-y since Frisaro used to tow the company lie
