Marlins Trade Deadline Talk

I am still not working myself good. Ignore trading Sanchez. That move is irrelevant.

I think not making the other moves was a mistake, especially with the premium other teams were trading this deadline.

I think we all were expecting the RPs and a SP or 2 to go - not a fire sale like last year or anything.

The only guy they really needed to trade was Quantrill as he’s on a 1 year contract. Rest of guys they can wait until off season. I think it shows father dix was 1) not getting good enough offers 2) has confidence he can further develop these guys the rest of the year - if Eddy keeps pitching like this he’ll get a huge haul in off season, moreso than now.

Also, a lot of these RPs everyone (on Twitter) thinks they should sell for top 10 prospects have really small sample sizes and probably aren’t as valuable as Twitter thinks. Benders peripherals are pretty bad and his era has been lucky so he probably worth it just keep him.

Personally I’m happy they didn’t sell everyone again and like lil B says we need trust dix here.

Would’ve thought we could get something for our BPs but I guess value wasn’t there. With Cal, I think Bendix was fine keeping him in case we traded Eddy and Sandy just to have a veteran eat some innings down the stretch. Once it became obvious that no trades were happening for either it was probably too late in the process to negotiate a Cal trade, especially if a lot of the target teams already acquired someone. Regardless, Cal’s return wasn’t moving the needle. I’m just happy Sandy wasn’t move and Bendix waited for value and walked away when it wasn’t met. Nothing was forced.

I mean it’s definitely a step in the right direction as far as “mindset” to keep your chips if you don’t get enough value, and not just unload at the deadline. But let’s be real, 7 games back with a series against the Yankees coming up is pretty close to “out of it” so I would have given up Quantrill and any other rental for peanuts. I guess maybe there just wasn’t any real interest in him.

Like I said though, it’s a definite step in the right direction and you’re seeing a semblance of the next core come together so I’m good with this deadline overall.

This is the biggest thing for me. I'm just happy the FO actually held firm for once and didn't just make trades for the sake of it. All of these guys (except for Quantrill) are all club-controlled. There was absolutely no reason to trade them unless some team offered a king's ransom.

I expected some of the RP to go (namely Bender), as well as Quantrill. I thought one of Sandy or Cabrera might go, but also knew they could stay if offers weren't right. I was fine moving on from Sanchez, who never lived up to the endless potential as others have pointed.

We can now hope that Sandy and Cabrera continue to build value, and that opens up the opportunity to trade them in the offseason if that's the way Bendix wants to go. I think Sandy/Cabrera were the "main" moves that would've caused other dominoes to fall, and since that didn't happen, the related ones didn't either.

The Astros are going to use Jeezy in a platoon role. Looking at the numbers they are pretty good vs RHP every year after his cup of coffee in 2020, so is a good move for them. We just have an abundance of lefty options who can play in the outfield, so he was kind of expendable. The real question is whether they will try and tweek his swing to get him to lift the ball so that he can take advantage of his raw power.

Fun fact, we also platooned Jeezy.

They have cam smith on other side their platoon tho 😢

We were platooning with Heriberto, who is a better hitter overall than Jeezy anyways.

Heriberto needs to be a lineup fixture at this point.

I want an outfield of Stowers - Marsee - Heriberto going forward.

There’s absolutely not way heck Heriberto is actually good. Hope dix proves me wrong again

I’m watching the Red Sox game and he singled to right in his first at bat…then in typical Sanchez fashion he ran the bases terribly and didn’t pick up his signs from the 3B coach which led to him getting thrown out at third by 20 feet which reminded me why I won’t miss him at all lol.

He is going to have to prove it for more than the 100 AB's he has. I am happy for him he is playing well, but he shouldn't be considered anything but depth at this point.

The Marlins were looking to land George Lombard Jr. or Spencer Jones from the Yankees in a Sandy Alcantara trade, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.  The Yankees naturally balked at moving either of their top prospects, and this gives the kind of idea of the big-ticket return Miami was trying to land for either Alcantara or Edward Cabrera.  “No one came especially close” to prying Alcantara away from the Fish, which reflects both the big asking price and the inconsistent numbers the righty has posted (6.36 ERA over 109 innings) in his first season back after rehab from Tommy John surgery.

NL East Notes: Alcantara, Yankees, Anthopoulos, Ozuna, Winker, Kranick - MLB Trade Rumors

The inside story of a wild two days at Fenway Park

The idea of prioritizing rentals, such as Merrill Kelly, had been pushed aside by the time 5 p.m. came around, with Breslow peppering the front offices of Minnesota and Miami with packages that might be able to pry either pitcher away. What the Red Sox thought they might have going for them was that both organizations seemingly had little interest in major league talent, which was perfect for Breslow and Co. since they had no intention of including players from the current roster in these deals.

There was also the rare willingness to include anybody and everybody from the Sox's minor league system in the deals. Payton Tolle. Jhostynxon Garcia. Franklin Arias. Two of the three, in different combinations, were offered up together as part of packages that also included members of the Sox's Top 10 prospect list.

When Breslow mentioned immediately after the deadline that his group had gotten "uncomfortably aggressive," this is what he was talking about. In the eyes of some involved, the proposals had reached a level that even topped the package delivered to secure Garrett Crochet last offseason.

The problem was that while the offers kept evolving, the asks didn't.
