THREAD GAME MARCH 29 ROCKIES

Featured Replies

I have been listening to the game on radio while helping a family member move furniture. Finally get a chance to sit down and watch.

To start the year the Marlins offense:

Stat Number MLB Rank (NL Rank)

AVG: .280 4th (3rd)
OBP: .355 5th (2nd)
SLG: .419 10th (6th)
OPS: .774 8th (5th)
SB: 6 2nd (2nd)- The Brewers are 1st and we face the team that gave up those steals next.
BB: 8 21st (11th)
K: 19 4th (3rd)
Runs: 10 22nd (10th)

The peripherals look good. They are also hitting the ball hard. Would like to see more walks and homers, but I like the process I am seeing from the guys and I think those will come soon enough. The only reason why they have scored so few runs is because they have bad numbers with RISP. This unit was really good in that split last year, so you can't say it is some kind of lack of clutch. I think it is early season flukey struggles that will even out. Hold on to the peripherals and good things will happen.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but it’s worth noting they just faced a team that was just last year maybe the worst in MLB history and didn’t really improve the big league roster. And they won three 1-run games. I wouldn’t shift the outlook any just yet.

To be fair, they lost all 3 games last year vs the Rockies and were not eliminated from playoff contention until the final week last year. I get minimizing the wins because the Rockies are bad, but it is at the very least 3 wins better off than last year at this point. Anyway, I have been an optimist for this team so my outlook hasn't shifted from these wins.

This is a fair take, and I don't disagree. However, games against bad teams are games a good/decent team should win, so it is good that the team was able to pull out wins in all 3 games. Obviously it doesn't mean we're World Series bound, but it's promising.

I agree with this 100% but with the caveat that I think this Marlins team the last few years LOVES to play down to their inferior competition and play up to the opposing talent that’s clearly better on paper than the Marlins are.
