  1. gotta love Dontrelle... with a trade we could probably get more talent (if 3 prospects played out like they should)... but you really cant replace this guy Can we stop saying that dontrelle should be traded for the right package?????!!!! Who cares if we got 2/3 good prospects for him. His attitude and help in the clubhouse with all this young guys is unvaluable. Talent and being good does you nothing if this youngsters aren't motivated. What did we do with all the talent we had last year??? Having players that are happy with the team and are class act like d-train can't be replaced.
  2. I love my marlins so I will be with the remote in hand all night those days but if I had to choose just one it has to be the heat in the finals. As for affecting the attendance, the people going to the heat games is just a portion. Most casual Marlins fans will rather stay at home and watch the heat than going to the Marlins game even though they're playing well.

  5. another walk comes in to score.
  6. Actually, according to that map, the stadium is closer to the "Yahoo!" logo in the upper left hand corner (the southern boundary of the property is N.W. 170 Street). Here is the actual site.
  7. Here is a map from Yahoo Maps. Where is the stadium going to be? http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=&cs...new=1&name=&qty= In that map in the top left hand corner to the left of the I-75 logo there. So its above NW 138th Street? Yes

  9. Who was known as the Barranquilla Baby? Renteria.
  10. 25 Boys just trying to make it in their career and they only have their dad, Joe Girardi, to look to. Will they find success in the tough NL East? Facing the possibility of having to move away from South Florida to a new stadium home and being forced to be traded, will the Marlins stay home, bond, improve, and find success in South Florida?!?! Or will they crack under the pressure?!? Sounds like a preview for a movie, but its basically what the Florida Marlins are facing. The Florida Marlins may not be a legitimate contender for the World Series, or even the playoffs, but what is going on in South Florida is something that should not be looked over non the less. Sure there have been some dissapointments in performances thus far, but what do you expect from a family of 25 boys and 1 dad who hardly know what they are doing. Consider this: In the fourteen 1 run games the Marlins have played, they have posted a 4 - 10 record in those games, almost being the direct opposite of the Washington Nationals of last year in the first half of the season. Even more interesting is in 2 run games, they have a record of 2 - 6. Now this may be expected from a young ball club, but the Florida Marlins truly aren't that far away from being a .500 team, or at least playing like one, and aren't necessarily being blown out every night. But when you are a Marlin fan you must not look at just the record, but the performances. How about Miguel Cabrera? The biggest worry about him was whether he had enough protection to get pitches. Result? Dan Uggla must be in ROY consideration and Willingham has 7 homers and has had clutch hits. Olivo has hit better than expected with a decent .261 average. Joe Borchard has shown he has decent potential and what about Reggie Abercrombie? Maybe one of the most interesting Marlins. Here a guy who was picked up from wavers from Arizona and no one had hardly heard of him going into Spring Training. 1 month later he the starting CFer. Sure the .230 average isn't impressive, but he is cutting down the strikeout totals and has raised his average from .200 to .230 fairly quickly. And finally my Rookie of the Year thus far, Hanley Ramirez. Hanley was the most popular prospect picked in the offseason and has performed the best. Having just 2 ABs coming into the season opener for the Marlins, Hanley has hit a very impressive .335 avg and an .OBP of .411, great numbers for a leadoff guy. Juan Pierre who??? (by the way he is hitting .230 with a OBP of .269, not exactly good leadoff hitter numbers) All this offense and we havn't even mentioned Hermia, who has been missed and should equate to improved performance by the Marlins. Pitching has been the dissapointment for the Marlins this year which is surprising considering the Marlins stocked up on pitching this off season. Willis, Mitre, Olsen, and Vargas (who many thought were the better pitchers of the rotation) all have ERAs higher than 4.50. So why think those numbers will improve?? Well the next 2 series are at home, and even though the Marlins don't have a great record at home, it sill is Dolphin Stadium and it is still a pitcher's park. Vargas, Olsen, and Willis also have more than 20 walks each, a number that is sure to go down as they get more experience. They'll improve, and if they dont, no real worries, Nolasco has looked solid, and thus far Yusmeiro Petit has looked good in the pen, maybe a spot in the rotation will be near for him. And while the bullpen has been shaky, the Marlins are in good position of bringing up countless pitchers to try to make the bullpen, even the rotation, better with all the pitching that was picked up. Not to mention if Carlos Martinez can come back soon, he would improve the pen. The point is with Hermida coming back, and a much needed 3 game winning streak, the Marlins are learning what it takes to win and how to perform. Daddy Girardi seems to be teaching, not neccesarily managing, his young players into winning, and teaching may be more important than managing at this point with how young the Marlins are. Girardi, a former catcher, should get the rotation pitching better sooner rather than later, even if takes more of those 1-on-1 talks in the dugout. Watchout for this team to start performing better, and if you under estimate them, you'll be surprised quick, just ask the Cubs. Great! :notworthy You can easily be a sport writter and better than others I have seen.
  11. Who is the career leader in batting average for the Marlins? Luis Castillo? I think it's actually JP. But I guess it depends on the PAs. My guess is JP too, Castillo was here for too long and the first years his AVG wasn't that high. So who is the Marlin that has struck out the most? I don't know the answer by the way...my guess is Preston Wilson I was lost with this one and had to look it up but I won't say it since it is kind of difficult and I wasn't expecting that answer. No, it is not Preston Wilson. Wilson is #5. Interesting thought.
  12. They are all really good players, all with a lot of hype as well. Cabrera, Ramirez and Wright have been phenomenal thus far, Reyes has struggled a bit. But long-term they all should be great players. Even better, they should all be playing in the same division for a long time. My question is: What tandem would you prefer to have, not just now, but long-term. IMO Cabs and HanRam should have better careers than Wright and Reyes. who would I want more if I was trying to win now? Arod + Jeter is pretty nice if I was gonna win now. but for the future right now? None. There is no other 3B in the catagory with potential of Miggy David Wright is a little less on the offense side then Miggy but defensively he owns. Its a wash, maybe a slight edge to the Marlins due to HanRam. Wright has 7 errors already this year and miggy 10. I will say neither owns right now I'll rather have cabs and hanram. Reyes has speed but is not a good leadoff hitter with all thos K's and let's not talk about OBP
  13. That's one of the reasons why I hate our park. If we had a "fair" park, that's long gone.
  14. i aABSOLULTY LOVE HOW GIRARDI GRABBED OLSEN INTO THE CORNER. THAT LETS US KNOW THAT GIRARDI IS ON HIS CASE NOW BECAUSE OF THE FIGHT Girardi probably wanted to wait after the game to talk about that incident with Olsen instead of doing before the start.
  15. its no secret this team should improve as the year goes on. i think anyone who seriously felt this team would be that bad all year long needs to have their head examined and get a new understanding of this sport especially in regards to young players at this level. Well said, I think what people are/were fering is when will that turnoround happen not if. And if it happens in August it won't be the same result. But we have seen signs that we can be a lot better. We just need to put everything together and that takes time with young guys. But you can't beat the way young guys celebrate this wins, for last year's team it would have been another win but for young guys it is like everything that happened before is erased.
  16. I really don't think they will trade 'trelle unless it is a deal that you can't ever pass on. I also think our front office excluding the top 2 knows what they're doing and it doesn't make sense to trade willis now for two reasons. 1 - we can actually get a stadium deal done and that should change everything. 2. He isn't a free agent until 2009 and his value will be higher than what he will get paid until 2009. I will rather pay willis 5 million this year and wait and see what happens with the stadium.
  17. i dont get aguila hitting 5th Me neither, why not get jacobs behing willingham now that he's hitting well? Maybe Joe doesn't want 3 straight guys that suck at the end of the lineup? But abercrombie is doing fine.
  18. I didn't know we once had J. Santana
  19. I say we give a chance to Herges to close one Might as well let him blow a save instead of a hold.
  20. The state senate also approved a stadium for the twins that will cost $522 million. Of those only $130 will be from the twins, so they are also getting most of it from the state. Why is it so difficult for Florida to do the same, and the Marlins will put more than $130 million for it.
  21. i think Herges will be good for 1 out. but then Joe's gonna keep it in and he's gonna blow it in the 8th. Hopefully that jinx it.
  22. Before it happens try to accept what's gonna happen. Makes it much more easy to see
  23. Herges up in the pen? Might as well stop watching. If we don't score at leat 3 next inning we have no chance tonight.
  24. Herges in the pen.
  25. I wasn't around so I wonder, were the 98/99 games this frustrating and painfull to watch? Or it's the way we are losing this games that makes them much more hard to watch?
