May 22, 200620 yr Marlins gauging interest for Willis Yankees, Mets, Diamondbacks all interested in acquiring left-hander The Florida Marlins are reportedly shopping Dontrelle Willis, and the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks are among teams that are interested, published reports say. A Yankees scout watched the left-hander pitch Sunday against the Devil Rays, the New York Post reported Monday. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks have talked with the Marlins about acquiring Willis (1-5) to bolster their rotation, the Arizona Republic reported on its website Monday. Arizona doesn't expect anything to happen soon, the newspaper reported. The Marlins, who cut their payroll from $60 million to $15 million this offseason, are expected to seek prospects instead of major leaguers in any deal for Willis, who finished second in the NL Cy Young voting last season. Willis, 24, will make $4.35 million this season. MLB.com reported that most in the Marlins clubhouse don't expect the team to trade Willis, however. The trading deadline is July 31. ? 2006 NBC Sports.com http://msnbc.msn.com/id/12917997/ Damn you Jeff Loria, and your little troll Sampson too. :thumbdown
May 22, 200620 yr Really . I hope its just a tease. We can never get someone good and keep them. I hate this :banghead . I have an idea. Keep him for another year. If by then we don't get a stadium then trade him. Give us a chance to get a stadium. We need Dontrelle :fit .

We need Dontrelle :fit . maarlins arent trading trelle...there is no reason to since when you look at his talent, his paycheck still doesnt come close to his value...same with cabs...the marlins would be the worst franchise in baseball without a doubt if they leave...and i actually am one who thinks the marlins have a brilliant front office...i trust they will keeps our guys, let them all grow together...i mean what is scary...cabs is getting better offensively and the defense will come...you dont let guys with his potential go
May 22, 200620 yr I really don't think they will trade 'trelle unless it is a deal that you can't ever pass on. I also think our front office excluding the top 2 knows what they're doing and it doesn't make sense to trade willis now for two reasons. 1 - we can actually get a stadium deal done and that should change everything. 2. He isn't a free agent until 2009 and his value will be higher than what he will get paid until 2009. I will rather pay willis 5 million this year and wait and see what happens with the stadium.
May 22, 200620 yr Again, look at all the talent out there. I would LOVE to trade Willis for some of the guys they are offering us.
May 22, 200620 yr Author None of the article says what the title suggests. Thread title: "Marlins are shopping Dontrelle" First sentence of article: "The Florida Marlins are reportedly shopping Dontrelle Willis"
May 22, 200620 yr None of the article says what the title suggests. Thread title: "Marlins are shopping Dontrelle" First sentence of article: "The Florida Marlins are reportedly shopping Dontrelle Willis" Look at the information that the article supplies. Yankees scout watching. D-Backs inquiring. Nothing.
May 23, 200620 yr It's got to be another rumor. Especially since Loia already said Dontrelle would NOT be traded. Loria would have to be the worst human being in the world to do this. Besides, if they do shop dontrelle, its probably o check for top prospects to see if they can get anything worth it, just to tease or see what teams would offer for him.

May 23, 200620 yr I dont see this article as anything more then the retreaded crap I have already posted over the past few weeks on the more trade rumors thread. Same old stuff just said in another way honestly. I will believe it when I see it.
May 23, 200620 yr Gee.....a Yankees scout at a game in Tampa. What a shock. Tampa..the winter home of the Yanks. Would have been a surprise if a Yankee scout was in the Tampa Bay area and wasn't at the game. Willis vs. Kazmir....that's a nice match up for any fan to see. As I've said before Willis is not getting traded until a stadium deal is signed sealed and delivered, if he gets traded at all.
May 23, 200620 yr Read the last sentence. It's probably doubtful he gets traded paticularly with the stadium more than likely being finalized buuuuuuuuuuuut if they do trade Dontrelle they are going to need an amazing offer, and in all reality if that amazing offer comes they have to take it. THere are plenty of excellent pitchers in this organization and if a trade can bring in 2-3 major league ready prospects than this team is probably going to be better in the long run.
May 23, 200620 yr If we can get a nice set of MLB-ready prospects for Dontrelle from the D-Backs, I'd be more than willing to do it. What about something like Carlos Quentin/Chris Young, Miguel Montero, Matt Torra? I'd take that all day everyday.
May 23, 200620 yr This makes me sick as well but you see what the Dbacks are rumored to be offering! GEEZ! I wouldnt pass that up!
May 23, 200620 yr I feel bad for Dontrelle that he's stuck here. Imagine how much fun he'd be having in a real baseball town. If he got traded to some other team with fans that cared I'd be happy for him.
May 23, 200620 yr Justin Upton would have to be the centerpiece of any deal with the DBacks. I am not as sold on either Chris Young or Carlos Quinten as others.
May 23, 200620 yr If I were these teams I'd be scouting Willis. I'd also be scouting Livian Hernandez and Mark Redman and Barry Zito and Mark Hendrickson. If teams wanna line up and outbid one another for Willis, go for it. And if they wanna overpay, make the deal. When I say overpay that means enough to cover the loss of an ace, the loss of an inexpensive contract, the loss of a crowd favorite and the loss of the face of the organization.
May 23, 200620 yr In reality the teams that can offer enough to trade for D-Train are few. The Mets have pretty much traded the farm with the exception of Millings in the Delgado and Dokie trades. The Yanks haven't got a whole lot to offer either. The D-Backs on the other hand have lots to give but are they willing to give it up? A lot of these suggested trades are just sportswriters trying to stay busy.
May 23, 200620 yr The more I think about it, the more I'm warming up to the idea of trading him, and the more I do think it will happen. Scott Olsen, Anibal Sanchez, Yusmeiro Petit, Chris Volstad, Ricky Nolasco, Josh Johnson, Jason Vargas, etc... Willis is the guy who can get you the most in a trade, and the future is lacking a stud CF and C prospect... Beinfest has traded stud established starters before with Penny, Beckett and almost Burnett.

I like the one (D'Backs article) too where the author can't even spell Dontrelle's name correctly.
