Amezaga up, Gonzalez Down
A bench of Amezega, Helms, Gload, Carroll, and Paulino really isn't that bad. Its just as good as Hollandsworth, Banks, Redmond, Mordecai, Harris.

When will Hayden Penn make his Marlins debut?
I don't care if a guy took a dump on the mound after he recorded every save, as long as he does his job and we win. I would. Thats nasty.

THE REAL REASON THE MARLINS ARE GOOD
But I do remember anger at the trade. I was one of them and still am. We could have gotten more. At this point I severely doubt it. Trades that never happened, Part 1: How worried were the Angels about their rotation at the end of spring training? We know they made a run at the Reds' Aaron Harang. Now we're also hearing they talked to Washington about left-hander Scott Olsen. Names that were believed to have been kicked around included Dustin Moseley, Shane Loux and Jason Bulger, a guy who was once interim Washington GM Mike Rizzo's No. 1 pick in Arizona. Trades that never happened, Part 2: We're also hearing that Tampa Bay made inquiries, earlier this spring, about Josh Willingham, one of the odd men out in Washington's incredibly overpopulated outfield/first-base rotation. The buzz is that the Rays dangled Jason Hammel, but the two sides never got any momentum going toward finishing off that deal. Moseley and Loux are not good, Bulger is somewhat interesting except we're talking about a 30 year old guy who'll hopefully be an average reliever. And I am really not a fan of Jason Hammel. I'd take Smolonski and Dean over Hammel and angel stuff, let alone then adding in Bonifacio. I agree. Olsen is proving to be more and more worthless each season and Willingham's ceiling is marginal.

Marlins interested in Rockies' reliever Morillo
"The Marlins may not be done tinkering with their bullpen. According to a baseball source, the Marlins are among the teams pursuing Rockies right-hander Juan Morillo, 25. The Rockies designated Morillo for assignment Friday when they added Matt Belisle. Out of minor league options, Morillo made the Opening Day roster but he did not appear in any games. He has accumulated just 8 2/3 innings worth of major league experience since his 2006 debut, but Morillo can boast a big arm. A native of the Dominican Republic, Morillo touched 100 miles per hour three times last season according to Baseball Info Solutions. His fastball generally sits in the mid- to upper-90s. Baseball America ranked the 6-3, 190-pound Morillo as the 23rd-best prospect in the Rockies system, in part because of an unspectacular 1.5-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in eight professional seasons." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...0,1239577.story

When will Hayden Penn make his Marlins debut?
the bullpen is a little bad, but hopefully if we're in contention we'll make a trade for a closer by the deadline... hmm.. didn't we do that once before? my memory is a bit foggy. seems like we did about 6 years ago. Yeah that cost us Adrian Gonzalez. I don't want to give up that type of talent again for a 3-month rental.

When will Hayden Penn make his Marlins debut?
I suppose he is being seen as a long reliever/inning eater type pitcher? I wonder what Beinfest had in mind for this kid when he brought him over. That he could contribute to the bullpen in middle relief? I say give him a shot.

4/10 Post Game
Sweet sweet game. Sets us up nicely to win the series.

Why is Hermida coming out of games?
Well this thread has officially turned into a joke. Brett Carroll is, by both the numbers and scouting, a plus plus defender. His calling card is his arm, which has ranked by Baseball America as the top arm in the system for several years running now and is one of the best in all of baseball, and he also has good range. He projects to have a ~20-30 UZR/150, which is obscene. Hermida doesn't come closer to Carroll, period. And as far as the arguement of Carroll/Maybin/Cody being probably the best OF defense in all of baseball. Maybin is, by both the numbers and scout, a plus plus defender. Dude was ranked our best defensive OFer by Baseball America this season and would have last season but he was a Tiger at the time. I mean, the accelodets of his defense in the scouting community is obscene. He has a career UZR/150 of over 50 in CF, which is seriously in legendary status. Now it's only in 109 innings and will likely fall down to the 30 range, but we're still talking about one of the best defensive OFers. And the fun of it all is he's a still a bit rough around the edges, yet is already one of the best. Cody Ross is by scouting a plus to plus plus defender, and by the numbers a plus plus defender. He was rated as a "good" defender by Baseball America as a prospect, and has greatly improved since then. He doesn't have the arm power of Maybin/Carroll, but he's still about average there. He is not speedy but he takes all the right routes, more importantly he doesn't do anything stupid. He had the highest UZR/150 of any CFer with atleast 850 innings played. At 18.1. In other words, you can make the argument he was the best defensive starting CFer last season. That number will ofcoarse go up as a corner OFer. That is likely why you think Cody is a bad defender lol. He doesn't do anything that "looks" special. He doesn't do the diving plays or such. He makes everything look routine. But doesn't that just tell you how f***ing good he is when he makes everything look routine? I'm not sure what the joke is and I really don't see how any argument can be made otherwise. Scouts, who are payed top dollar for their opinion, don't agree with you. Numbers, which show you what happened on the field, don't agree with you. I appologize if this post comes a little aggresively, but OF defense is one of our top strong suits, so you insulting it makes not much sense. I think he just assumed Cody was a bad fielder because he threw the ball into the dugout in the last game.

Angels Pitcher Nick Adenhart is Dead
Not that this will bring Nick Adenhart back or any of the other thousands and thousands of lives taken by drunk driving, but something really needs to be done about this. Getting caught with a DUI should be considered attempted manslaughter. A person who is proven to be driving under the influence should be put in jail for a minimum of 10 years. Maybe then these wreckless idiots would understand the danger they are putting on society. These deaths are preventable, and they need to stop. On a bright note, Nick did something a lot of us don't get the opportunity to do, and that is to live out our dreams. Nick grew up wanting to become a Major League Baseball player, and for one night, he was an excellent one. It is just very unfortunate that that night would be his last. RIP Nick Never gonna happen. Most car-related deaths don't involve alcohol anyway. AWAY WITH THE VEHICLES!!!!

Bonifacio is STILL in need of a nickname.
I heard Rich mention something about it. Bugs Boni

Maybin in the 8 hole
Well against LHP, Maybin will be batting 2nd. I guess Fredi will determine is he's ready for a more permanent move to the top of the lineup based on his performance on these occasions.

Andino traded
Penn may or may not be around all that long. By now everyone knows he's a pet of Mark Wiley who will probably park him at the end of the pen and give himself x days or weeks to straighten out whatever is stunting his development, hoping he can avoid using him in game-altering situations until he either gets him back on track or gives up on the experiment and the organization either cuts him or gets him through waivers to NOLA or the Suns. I agree with this approach. And if it does happen this way, I'm cautiously optimistic that Penn will contribute in the pen and possibly in the rotation. He had a 3.87 ERA and 436 Strikeouts in 489 Minor League Innings Pitched. I don't think its too unreasonable that under Wiley's tutelage, this 24-year old former top 100 MLB prospect could turn into a solid, versatile arm. Just like Meyer right Is Meyer going to make the team?

Opening Day Lineup/Roster
I like Bonifacio leading off, but I don't like how that may push Maybin into the 8 spot.

Marlins release McPherson
We need to sign Geoff Jenkins!!

Marlins release McPherson
no big loss , between the outrage of De La Cruz and McPherson you would have thought we just gave away two hall of famers instead two minor league players with limited up side Theres not much outrage on my part. I'm just shocked we couldn't get ANYTHING for the minor-league home run king last year. You're telling me a combination of McPherson and De La Cruz couldn't net us anything?

Marlins release McPherson
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-mar...0,7981799.story "The Marlins continued to pare down their roster after Tuesday night's game, releasing infielder Dallas McPherson and reassigning outfielders Michael Ryan and Alejandro De Aza, and left-hander John Koronka to minor league camp. McPherson, who was due to earn $500,000, spent all of last season at Triple-A Albuquerque and led the minor leagues with 42 home runs. He batted .239 (11 for 46) with three doubles, a homer, five walks and 15 strikeouts in Grapefruit League play. With McPherson, De Aza and Ryan out of the out of the picture, the Marlins will not have a left-handed bat off the bench until the switch-hitting Alfredo Amezaga is ready to come back from a sprained knee."

Post: Marlins face more obstacles before stadium groundbreaking
Its gotten to the point where I don't think anyone should let their guard down until Opening Day 2012. Its hard to be comfortable when there are so many morons involved in this process. Hopefully all of this stuff will run smoothly. :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray

Marlins Waive Cruz
OMG!!! Graham Taylor? What does he have to do with anything? OMG OMG!!! We released a 5 foot 5 reliever. OMG!! You guys crack me up. I think it's funny you have brought up Ceda, Waecther, and others saying "Beinfest always does this," then got called out on how that has nothing to do with Cruz, and then when somebody brings up Graham, you do the same defense you got called out on just moments ago of, what does that have to do with anything? Awesome. What it means is two things. One, you are very inconsistent, and Two, I would guess the general assumption is from whoever made that comment, if you are a Graham Taylor fan, Cruz is a much stronger prospect than him. So if you like Taylor and don't like Cruz, that basically means you don't quite understand much about our prospects which is pretty damning to your opinion. But whatever. Beinfest can do no wrong and releasing RP that are clearly good enough for Tampa and San Diego's 25 man roster is totally fine and we can't be annoyed about it. Where are all the Graham Taylor supporters out there? lol De La Cruz's departure just doesn't mean anything to me. I'm not impressed by what he brings to the table. His loss, IMO, is easily absorbed by others. That is the basis of my argument. I apologize for blurring that by throwing other names out there and sarcastically using responses similar to those used by others.

Apparently Run DLC didn't sign Jsprt's hat during ST I wouldn't even ask De la Cruz to sign. Im not in the business of ruining my belongings. And your adopt a prospect is Graham Taylor? Did you get the last pick... like, the one after Graham Taylor's family too? Lou's right, you're really undervaluing DLC and wearing some heavy tinted "In Beinfest I trust" glasses... let the sun shine in, m'boy OMG!!! Graham Taylor? What does he have to do with anything? OMG OMG!!! We released a 5 foot 5 reliever. OMG!! You guys crack me up. I'm not saying the sky is falling... but I'm also not saying that a penny fell out of my pocket and it's not worth picking it back up. DLC has value, that's obvious... if he was as garbage as you'd have us believe, he would not be wanted by the Padres on their ML roster... we would not have asked for him in the Miggy/'Trelle deal... Think plz and thx Not once have I stated that De La Cruz is "garbage." An average-talented, undersized reliever, yes, but never "garbage." And I'm not saying he doesn't have value. I'm just saying he is no more valuable than many other relieving options we have now and in the upcoming year or so.

It was just my way of pointing out that even though Beinfest may have to cut loose some average talented relievers (De La Cruz, Nelson, Waechter, etc.), he will also bring in guys with at least the same talent level or even higher (Ceda) to fill out the bullpen. Sure, cool. But this doesn't work with Ceda in AA and needing more time in the minors when we need a RP right now. No one is worried about the longterm pen with Tucker, Ceda, Leroux, probably Vanden Hurk, and someone from Wood/Owens/Whoever rounding out the right handers, and probably one of Thompson/West turning into a RP at some point to compliment whatever pure LOOGY we have around. That's fine and great. Problem is, right now. We're going to have at least 1 street FA in the pen, a waiver claim, Badenhop, and two relievers on the DL. Is now really the time to be getting rid of any arm? Especially one with immense upside and basically MLB ready? Sounds like our bullpen for the past five years. This organization does not place much value of middle-of-the-pack relievers because of the abundance of them available. And we had a good bullpen 1 of those 5 years? I think you are severely underestimating Cruz's stuff. He'd be a top 10 prospect in well over half the systems in baseball. We just happen to be loaded out of our minds right now so he doesn't make it past the low teens in the Marlins rankings. All I'm saying is that Beinfest & Co. do not get paid to simply release guys without thought. I have confidence that those guys evaluated De La Cruz's situation, and decided it was best for him to move on, and that his departure would not mean much to the success of this squad.
