When will Hayden Penn make his Marlins debut?

Featured Replies

I suppose he is being seen as a long reliever/inning eater type pitcher?

I wonder what Beinfest had in mind for this kid when he brought him over. That he could contribute to the bullpen in middle relief? I say give him a shot.

He was warming up tonight.

He'll have a better chance tomorrow with everyone moving up a spot, since Lindstrom's unavailable.

Both him and Meyer are the long relief options, I think.

When Meyer came in, he was up to face Beltran (Switch who is equal against both hands), Ryan Church (LHB who is significantly better against RHP), and Brian Schneider (LHP who is significantly better against RHP).

If it was 3 RHB, I'm sure it'd have been Penn in.

It's a shame that Lindstrom wasn't unavailable on Friday night. Personally, and I said so to myself at the time, I would have left Nunez in the game to pitch the ninth. Period. This Marlin bullpen is outrageously bad.

no way Nunez pitches into a third inning. Yea, this bullpen will give us fits, but it was the mets bullpen who gave up the lead run and then the winning run. Just keep K-rod off the field.

Hopefully we will see him pitch tonight when the Marlins blow out the Mets. He will come in with a 10 run lead.

Hats off to that!!! :notworthy

I hope so because our we used alomst our whole pen last night.

We better blow out Livan hes way past his prime.

You're crazy. Ricky Nolasco is going to pitch a no hitter in the Marlins blow out win 10 to 0 over the Mutts.

the bullpen is a little bad, but hopefully if we're in contention we'll make a trade for a closer by the deadline... hmm.. didn't we do that once before? my memory is a bit foggy. seems like we did about 6 years ago.

Yeah, ideally we can get to Livan early (and often), let Ricky throw seven or so and have Penn come in for the final two.

keeping Arthur Rhodes would've been a huge step for this team.

I was thinking the same thing, because with the way the bullpen has been, we need a guy to really come in and step it up. My concern is in that bullpen, it appears at this point to be our only weakness, I'd say we can address it by mid-season with some minor league callups. but let me ask you guys something, will their be any available arms when the trade deadline arrives, I know I am thinking ahead here but this bullpen doesn't look like it'll hold up. I wonder if Tucker will be brought up and maybe serve the role Morris did for the Cards years ago.

Yeah that cost us Adrian Gonzalez. I don't want to give up that type of talent again for a 3-month rental.

Not keeping Arthur Rhodes wasn't as bad as not replacing him.

They trusted Taylor Tankersley. I don't blame them for that...but I also wanted another lefty. Dan Meyer = not the answer.

The minor leagues figures to be the best option for RHP relievers, but we may have to go out and get a LOOGY. I think Lindstrom will be fine once he's back in shape, and Calero/Proctor/Nunez should also be solid.

If all goes reasonably well, Tucker and Ceda could very well be ready by mid-season; and, I'm not sure we could get any arms that would be significantly better, not to mention that a trade would cost us a prospect, while a call-up at worst starts an arbitration clock. Between Lindy/Proctor/Nunez/Calero/Kensing/Tucker/Ceda/Penn we should have 4-5 righties who we can depend on by the later part of this year. But the LHRP may cause a lot of trouble. I'd almost go with 5 righties and just the one best lefty, because I think I may be more confident in the aforementioned RHRP than whoever's the lesser of Pinto/Meyer.

I wonder what we can expect from henry owens when he comes back... that could be a nice addition when the time comes

Why shouldnt you blame them for trusting Tank. He was terrible last year and sucked in ST and gave no indications he had figured it out. I hope Tank gets in together but right now we are screwed when we need a situational lefty.

Tank was great against LHB in 06 (1.10 WHIP) and 07 (1.03 WHIP) and in the minors in 08 (1.26 WHIP, which really isn't impressive lol I thought it was better, but keep in mind it's in Alb). I don't have a problem with them having faith in him up to ST.

Once ST started and he sucked balls, I hate that they didn't sign Ohman.

1. He's young.

2. He's proven he can get the job done before at this level.

Maybe Tucker should show that he belongs in the bigs before he's pitching in the bigs. The opportunity is there for him but he has to execute which he did neither in spring training with the Fish nor with the Zephyrs. And while it's only one outing *into the Zephyrs regular season*, three innings, two runs and five walks is not going to entice anyone in the front office to seriously consider him for a promotion.

Personally I think we trade for relief help and sooner rather than later. The last thing we need in the pen is on the job training.
