Joe Frisaro of MLB.com has the latest on the Marlins.

Out of options Marlins shortstop Robert Andino remains on the Pirates' radar; the interest dates back to at least the Winter Meetings. Frisaro wonders if the idea of an Andino-Brian Bixler swap could be reignited. However, with Andino being out of options and Bixler raising his profile during Spring Training, that seems unlikely. My own speculation - the San Diego would be a good destination for Andino.

Frisaro says the Marlins appear to be shopping third baseman Dallas McPherson, who is also out of options. McPherson, 28, hit .275/.379/.618 with 42 home runs in 448 at-bats last year at Triple A. Projection systems remain unimpressed, but I'd like to see what he could do in Minute Maid Park.

The Marlins are eyeing lefty relief help, with Frisaro naming Pittsburgh's Sean Burnett and free agent Ron Villone as possibilities.

ok....it's apparent now that McPherson is a dud. He hits 42 homers and we don't want to give him a chance. Obviously he is used goods (injured) or just not that good. I'll go with both.

I hate to say i told ya so but...................I told ya so, McPherson has not done anything at the ML level ever, why would he start now.

Heh, the guy has never had a real shot. So he struggles in spring training - big deal, a lot of people do. Hanley and Uggla have both looked really bad so far.

Dallas McPherson = the new Jeremy Hermida when it comes to unfounded, unresearched, hysterical statements.

See, I don't mind trading McDallas. I think he'll be useful and will hit RHP a bit and we could certainly use him, but if he can upgrade the bullpen or get a left handed OF, that makes more sense for the club. I also think it really has not much to do with McDallas, but more of Helms, and that the organization just wants him to be the backup 1B/3B guy and it's just tough to carry two of those players. I'd much rather not have signed Helms but what can you do.

I suspect this is what the Marlins ideally want to do as the predominant depth chart over the year.

C - Baker (Paulino)

1B - Sanchez (Helms, Cantu)

2B - Uggla (Bonifacio, Amezaga)

SS - Hanley (Amezaga, Bonifacio)

3B - Cantu (Bonifacio, Helms)

LF - Hermida (Left Handed OF, Bonifacio)

CF - Maybin (Amezaga, Ross)

RF - Ross (Left Handed OF, Bonifacio)

B - Amezaga, Bonifacio, Helms, "Left handed OF," Paulino

Didn't Villone leave on less than friendly terms or am I confusing him with Graham Lloyd...lol...or did they both leave with sour tastes?

Ron Villone? He already sucked for us last go around, and now he's like 40. Why didn't they just go after Ohman. ARGH.

Yeah, he was terrible.

I remember when he had Villone, my mom would say incredulously "Set-up man?!?!?!? Sure, he sets up the other team to beat us!"

......And he rarely let her down.

I thought I remember Villone telling Miggy he was going to beat his ass

Forget Ohman and Villone.

They should have re-signed Arthur!!!

Will Ohman can be just as good as Arthur.

No loss on either Andino or McPherson, both would be just bench players hopefully they can get something for them. I was at least hoping McPherson would start season on DL so they would have more time to work something out ala trade or try to send back to minors when most teams 40's are set. As for Villone he wasn't all that effective but is a veteran lefty and probably wouldn't cost much which is always a concern.

If we lose Mcpherson without giving him any type of shot at the major league level, I'm going to be very upset. Not only do I think it would be a huge mistake in terms of production he could give this team, but I also don't think it's at all fair to bring him here under false pretenses of being able to "earn a starting job", than actually go and do it over a full season in triple-A, but end up not getting it. That's not very classy.

I agree with you except the false pretenses part. There is no benefit to the Marlins organization in not "really" giving him a chance at the starting job. Not a guy with 42 homeruns last season and Mike Jacobs and Josh Willingham's bats gone. You think they spent this much time on him to see him not succeed? The fault (maybe not the right word here) is with McPherson who got plenty of at bats, had the winter to get ready for his "chance of a lifetime" so to speak, and putting aside his temporary injury, didn't produce.

I'm still rooting for him to make the team, I think the guy potentially has a ton of value for this club and I don't want to see him jettisoned, but the reason he isn't going to be (it looks like) the Opening Day third baseman is not the fault of the front office or Fredi.

Well Dallas won't be making the team seeing as we released him. So wild card I imagine your pissed.
