  1. Next year is 2006 saying we are going to be competitive in 07 or 08 is a stretch even talented prospects take a few years to develope 2009 2010 is more like it Willingham, Hermida, Jacobs and especially Cabs have all already had a taste of the MLB, so it's not like we're putting a bunch of inexperienced players on the field. Willis, Vargas and Olsen already have experience (Olsen not as much, but still). If you look at the difference between 1998 and 2006, it's that we have a little more experience with the youthful players--if that makes any sense. The biggest gaping hole in my opinion is the bullpen, but if Bowyer and Resop develop accordingly, that situation should be resolved. 2008 is still a ways off, but it's not out of the question to suggest we will compete by then We were still firesaling well into 1998. We actually have a nucleus here already for '06 without the Todd Zeiles. Todd Zeile is GOD!!!
  2. Umm...who cares? It isn't like Dillon is going to be a great major leaguer, and why should we stand in his way for the chance for greater success (and a bigger payday) in Japan. We're probably getting money. Dillon isn't that good. Good move. Dillon is a solid utility guy, but why not let him do what he wants and go to Japan...
  3. I'd sign Todd Hollandsworth to play LF
  4. If Loria gets a stadium deal done here in S. Fla. with the way that his stepson, Tom Thumb, is acting towards everyone, I'll personally throw an all-crow BBQ for every nay sayer to attend. Right now, I am among those who could care less who owns the team or who they're in bed with as long as the team stays and they pay for their own stadium. If Huizenga came back, I'd probably be for it. Too bad their isn't a fan among us that has the type of funds to step in. Go Marlins!!! Did I mention that my last name is Gates??
  5. Willis is a Super Two while Cabrera is not, so Dontrelle will hit the free agent market following the 2008 season while the Fish's rights to Miguel do not end until after the 2009 season. Super Two??
  6. Hopefully that was not what Lenny was thinking when he grabed him... Hopefully
  7. Juan Pierre looks like a 10 year old kid in your signature
  8. I think he should be the Marlins starting 2B. I don't like this. Its all about Danny Uuuuuuuuugla at 2B
  9. I wouldn't mind Jason Michaels at all, seeing how he has Miami ties and all. The only problem I have is that he will be 30 in June....
  10. I appears it was Easley's decision not to return, such is life. As for Aurilia, the Reds set him free on Oct 28, declining their mutual option at a price of $2,000,000 for '06 and buying him out for $150k. I believe it was to be able to negotiate a lower price tag, but since then the Reds acquired Womack making their need for Rich even less than had been anticipated. To me RA is an example of the kinds of guys I'd like to see be part of this team for a couple years as the kids mature. Between SS and 2B I bet he could get playing time in a 100 games year. I might be wrong, but doesn't Aurillia have some history of attitude problems?
  11. when he comes to the plate we can...
  12. Its pronounced oooo-gla
  13. No more 4-3-2-JUAN!!!
  14. Is there a reason that Enc and TJ wern't offered arby?? Did Beinfest forget about them amongst all these trades??
  15. From the Red's beat writer's "Mailbag" on November 21st... Do you see Kevin Howard stepping into the Reds' starting lineup at second base next year, or is he not yet ready for the big leagues? -- Dustin H., West Carrollton, Ohio At the moment, second base is the only open position the Reds have, but I don't see Howard taking it over in '06. He's still probably a year away from being Major League ready. Unless the Reds find a way to re-sign Rich Aurilia or another proven veteran infielder in the free agent market, I think the position is Ryan Freel's to lose. But William Bergolla (who, as of this writing, is performing well in Winter Ball) and Ray Olmedo should also compete for playing time there.
  16. It feels weird that Harris is back. That makes him the longest tenured Marlin. Wrong... Lenny signed as a free agent with the Fish on August 11th, 2003 Miggy and Dontrelle were already on the big club... :mischief2 I don't know why I remember him being on the club from the start of the year. Ok. I didn't mean to show you up or anything like that, I just could actually prove someone wrong and had to jump on it...
  17. The kid has potential, and I don't mean to dampen everyone's high over maybe getting him, but isn't there a reason that he isn't being protected by his team?? Whats the catch??
  18. It feels weird that Harris is back. That makes him the longest tenured Marlin. Wrong... Lenny signed as a free agent with the Fish on August 11th, 2003 Miggy and Dontrelle were already on the big club...
  19. As long as Lenny can still come up with big hits each year I have no problem re-upping him...
  20. It came from the mouth of Steve Phillips. Nuff said. Gammons did add, "But he isn't a free agent for another 4 years!" Thats why his a sportcaster and not a GM! THAT IS CORRECT!
  21. We have a bunch of pitching prospects now, and everyone has been talking about dealing some of them away for position players. I agree that it couldn't hurt to get some hitting in the midst of this radical face lift, but I like all the pitchers the Fish have received. If the Fish trade a Yusmeiro Petit or Gaby Hernandez, it would be hard to accept what we get in return...
  22. The Marlins should have one HUGE press conference where the introduce all the new guys to the organization...
