  1. better bullpen would help out this team alot and if some guys would have gone the way there were suppose to we would have alot more wins. the pitching is starting to come around and the hitting has pretty much been there for the most part, except the bottom of the order. were learning now and we got confidence and momentum going into the Mets series. take 2 ouf of 3 at least! Taking two out of three would be sweet. Expect good crowds this weekend, unfortunately, many met fans, maybe more that 60%-they have been so unnoticed the past few years. Hey, if guys would have done what they are supposed to, we wouldnt have had the fire sale. Read jp, Lowell, LoDuca, Gonzalez, Burnett.
  2. The fun thing to keep in mind is we are losing, not because of a lack of talent but because it is young, mistake prone and will get better. The cubs on the other hand, veteran team, 95 mill payroll and no chance of being better. I also am confident this team will develop into a top team and will be scary. Now, when the stadium deal rumored by the bathroom attendant (or was it the usher) comes true, maybe in the future we keep a great team together.
  3. One of the few times this year Messenger actually hit the target-maybe
  4. Cub fans are delirious with what they have seen so far as a totally miss, i.e. giving up what they did for Pierre. Oh, and here is what JP said after last nights game: "You come off a big win against the White Sox, and you know the energy (playing before 9,462 fans) is not there," Cubs center fielder Juan Pierre said. "But as professionals you have to find a way to win the game." Now, they only won one game against the sox. Also, this is his first game here all year, so what is the reason he is hitting about .240, and only that high because he is on a little streak. Also, since the cubs have lost almost every game in May, why take a shot at the Marlin fans? -what is the excuse for the all the other losses-where is the energy JP?
  5. I do not think Joe should have a "managerial style" yet with this team. To lock in a style would be based on knowing what to expect from your players. This is a big fat work in progress, with a lot of trial and error. Letting a pitcher throw an extra inning to see what he can do. Sometimes giving a player the chance to gain confidence, rather than going by the book-like letting Jacobs bat against a lefty late in the game, which he recently did and came through, rather than going righty lefty. Just basically letting everyone sink or swim with the opportunities. There is minimal track record with most of these guys and I am glad Joe is not stuck on a pattern. This is all about the future, not eeking out a few more wins along the way. Oh, it hurts just as much to lose, but only for a day. Let's go sweep the Cubs.
  6. I do not know Andino's stats this year, but maybe many of you of thinking of the Andino of last year. A young player like him, if his head is on straight, can make significant jumps in a short period. So don't worry about Andino, just hope Hanley is not out too long. It's cool with him hitting so well, Uggie really on a rampage and Miguel, whoa, what a top of lineup we have seen. Not even worrying if we can keep it up-just enjoy it-even while we lose these heartbreakers.

From my view, these SA guys seems to be almost as obnoxious as Samsom, maybe more so. No one owes anyone anything here, nor is there a need to "spin" anything. Seems clear to me that from the beginning there were no guarantees, just SA putting their best foot forward (although $200 mill wasn't going to get it done anyway) and the Marlins having a real interest in what SA had to say. Get over it SA, you are acting like an unprofessional real estate salesperson, angry that the buyer decided not to purchase the property you were selling. Uhh, the pirate reference can be taken in other ways, other than pursuing coastal teams. Just be glad the marlins were dealing with the County and not the City. Wolff is much more professional and nice about these things than Hardberger is. A lot of the disappointment hitting the news is that, pathetically, the Marlins and Saints are the closest we've come to a new team even though we've been trying for 20 years. The Saints fiasco was a frustration on so many levels and basically turned into a pissing contest between Benson, Tagliabue, and Hardberger. The $200 million wasn't putting our best foot forward. That is just showing a little toe. We easily could have found a way to pay out more and finance the entirety of the Marlins portion. The Marlins just decided they didn't need to pursue that with the stadium talks in Hialeah apparently going well. Larsen probably meant the pirate reference as you are thinking. I get the feeling he's planning on running for County Judge against Wolff and is starting the party early. The last couple months he's been contradicting Wolff any chance he gets, trying to paint him as a liar, etc. Looks like sometime soon, SA will get another professional franchise-looks like some strong egos on the political scene, may all depend on who has the most powerful allies. Funny, no matter how different a community is, politics, it just stays the same. Thanks for an honest and intelligent response.

WE ARE GETTING CLOSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This SA article also seems to confirm what we are waiting to happen soon. . "I'm not sure how they are going to handle this," Wolff said. "Are they going to say, 'We are no longer interested in San Antonio,' or will they say, 'Our interest is ongoing, but we can't come to conclusions about the San Antonio market right now?' They could also say, 'Our analysis shows San Antonio is five years away (from being able to support two major-league franchises).' Or they could say, 'We'll be back if things don't work out in Florida.' "There are a lot of different versions they can spin out. My guess is they are trying to coordinate it with Major League Baseball's thinking." Said County Commissioner Lyle Larson: "I would expect a public comment (from the Marlins) in the next couple of days." Wolff and Larson suggested the Marlins could be making a mistake by spurning Bexar County's offer. "I told David (Samson), 'I know you guys are having a hard time coming to a conclusion and that you have your own problems, but other forces might move in here before you do,'" Wolff said, referring to Mayor Phil Hardberger's quest to lure an NFL team. "The door is definitely not closed on (the Marlins), but I don't know what our situation will be in the next couple of years," Larson said. "But for now, I guess we'll have to dry dock our pirate ship (that's been pursuing two coastal teams, the Saints and the Marlins) for awhile." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- torsborn@express-news.net From my view, these SA guys seems to be almost as obnoxious as Samsom, maybe more so. 9. The new stadium, the shops, the restaurants, the movies will all be beautiful. The people of Hialeah are hard working people who deserve nothing but respect for themselves and their city. Yea, there have been bad politicians, like everywhere. What about the area around White sox park, Camden, Turner field is not in downtown and is not in what you would call a destination area and is a pain to get in and out of (and watch their attendance is the Braves dont turn it around), the bronx, Shea (great for hubcap shops). Hialeah is and will be nicer than all of these places because it is and because our Fish will be there without fear of relocating.

So whats the story in DC? Looks like they had a bunch of people dressed up as empty yellow seats there last nite. Is the honeymoon already over? It's not like the Marlins on a Wed night is a big draw. Yet, when the Nats fall behind us, you will be right, the honeymoon is over except that people will have to buy tickets there to qualify for seats in the new stadium. Oh, BTW, it will happen here if everything we hope for comes true.
  11. A sales tax rebate from sales taxes generated by the revenue at a site which would not be there otherwise is not a tax on State residents. As far a Jeb's political career, yea, right, it killed his brother's career when George got the stadium built for the Rangers. There should be on amendment to the bill-to stop sending Wayne the rebate he is still getting.
  12. Already posted. Samson "wasn't aware" of this for good reason. :thumbup What would you expect, he has his mind cluttered with details of old movies.
  13. Proof that Samson is a putz-who in the world cares about his movie opinions, yet they keep giving him air time. Should be an FCC fine for that. Why not just put his vacation pictures on myspace.com
  14. Leave downtown Miami alone-the only place desirable is on the Bay and no one wants to give up any more land there, especially after the AAA was built. Will a downtown stadium bring any more fans from the office workers there? It didn't help the Heat when they were losing. Hialeah is fine, the bias against it is unfounded. More people will have access from N. Broward and Palm Beach than if it is downtown and that will make up for any downtown office workers. Shops, restaurants, entertainment will bring people out. Last time I looked, Sawgrass Mall was not on the water and the place is a destination. Hard Rock is packed night in and night out and not everyone is there for the gambling-I think it is because they can smoke in public there (cough cough). I love you Hialeah. Won't ever say what we used to say back in high school when we played Hialeah high and they yelled, Hialeah, Hialeah, Hialeah and we responded with a word that rhymed and started with "D"
  15. I'm confident that sentiment is shared by the intended audience (as in Cubs fans and baseball fans in general, not short-fused, thick-headed fans with an everything-you-say-is-insulting-to-me complex). And is there something wrong with that. Just the true Marlin fans here defending our turf and "family". While the author is surprised his cubbies didnt sweep, the real fact is the cub complex that they could just as easily been swept by the AAA Marlins-and that these fish may well be in the Series again while the cubs won't. There is such a thing as the "cub factor". It is always easy when other writers and fans want a superiority boost, they make fun of attendance here. Great, I say, you can win the attendance award-just keep wishing for a series title. Hey, except for the 8th inning on Monday, the cubs had as many hits in 3 games as most teams get in one. So, I think Downey should be most concerned about his team's chances instead of ripping others.
  16. We need to give Jacobs his at bats at this level---Just a little more slowly, like once a week. First he needs to stop swinging ( and fouling off) every first pitch. Then get rid of that loop in the swing then maybe get him in to two games a week. I know, we need a left handed bat out there who by the way is slower afoot around the bases than maybe Charles Johnson. Good thing he scored yesterday only because rag arm Pierre was bouncing his throws from center after getting about 20 yards of carry. Love the sac fly where both runners moved up on JP.
  17. It really is. I mean this is a site that is accessible to the people of South Dade and Kendall who moaned for years that DS was too far, it's accessible to people coming from the west coast as they can take 75 all the way to the stadium, people in Palm Beach County only have to drive a few more extra minutes, but significantly less than they would have if the stadium had been put in Downtown Miami and there is even a MetroRail line south of the area where they can have buses shuttle fans back and forth to and from games. No one is ever going to be truly happy about a location, but besides having it right next to DS, this really is the next best place that they could have put it to please everybody. This is again, a perception of poor location because so many people who haven't lived here for long have no idea of areas outside their guard gates and a few malls and restaurants. Hialeah has changed quite a bit in my lifetime-but everything you say about accessibility is true. The location off of 75 makes it so easy for N. Broward and Palm beach. I live in N. Miami Beach and you can probably get to Hialeah from Lauderdale in the same 20 minutes it will take me. I think it is great. I would love a downtown stadium also, but so many people further north would just say how tough it is to get there.
  18. His defense has been solid if not stellar. Messed up a few rushed double plays. And at bat, you do not find yourself saying "damn, Uggla is up".
  19. The Marlins are in a position similiar to where to Indians were in the 90's. They have a great young core that will be able to legitmately compete when a new stadium comes around. That's why I think Loria's fire sale was a necessity. they keep payroll down and develop talent and when they are ready to move in to a new stadium in 2 or 3 years they will have household names that will be major league ready and from the revenue they generate from selling the luxury boxes in the new stadium they can sign one or two legimate free agents. The Marlins will never have the market revenue of New York or Chicago, but if they use Cleveland's game plan they can compete every 7 years out of 10. There will probably always be some sort of fire sale but as long as the down years are a lot less often then the up they'll be fine. Let's just hope all this takes place in Miami. Let's change the name to Miami as well. Also, interesting you used Cleveland, an old traditional team with a long history. Attendance was a problem with them until they moved into the Jake. Yet just last year, while the media and others bash Marlin attendance, the Indians, with a very good young team and in the race longer than the Marlins, right down to the last 3 days, averaged a whopping 24,000-just a little over a 1,000 more per game than our Fish. This is without the threats of relocation, contraction, negatives about baseball in a football stadium, the weather, blah blah blah. Haven't heard much Indian bashing from the media, and it was only as high as it was because of the late rally of attendance in September. Not excusing our attendance, just a little perspective of the impression that except for the Marlins and Tampa, the rest of the league just fills up their stadiums.
  20. ya it would increase. didn't loria say if we got a stadium worked out the payroll would shoot back up? if so the attendence would increase greatly. the first couple of games in the new stadium would be sold out, if we had a good team-(one with a normal sized salary) we would probably sell them out. Yea, Loria did say that, but as one frequent ownership apologist poster on these boards recently said, Loria can say things and doesn't have to mean it and that is OK, because he is a great owner. Just look at his track record. So, you see, it doesn't matter what he says.
  21. Hammer is better in left than Cabrera was and Olivo and Treanor are better defensively-and what a plus to see Matt with a big hit yesterday and Olivo smoking some balls deep.
  22. .I am guessing that as a resident of SFL you are well aware of the forecasts. Why would any right thinking baseball owner want to risk operating in a hurricane prone area? A cat 4 or cat 5 direct hit would likely decimate the economy much like New Orleans. Can you imagine the effect that would have on a bottom line? Let's see. First for the nonnatives (which I am not) the strange 27 year period between 1965 and 1992 was the aberration where there were no hurricane strikes. Now, since Andrew we have had multiple hurricanes, much damage and WAIT, population booming, the real estate market and economy are at record levels. Cities are sending money back to taxpayers because of surpluses. The State has a multi billion dollar surplus etc etc etc. Maybe you are right, our economy has been decimated-hahahaha.
  23. Right, take cheap shots. First win your first world series since inception of electricity. In the meantime all you got is just like the parent with a kid who flunks 2nd grade but has the bumper sticker-my kid has perfect attendance. Go ahead and win the attendance award but remember-the hated White Sox have the title you can only dream about. Guess I still laugh at the two cub fans walking out of pps in 03 after Beckett shut them out and one had a Prior jersey and the other a Wood jersey and yelling at the top of their lungs at the Marlins-"PRIOR AND WOOD-U GOT NO CHANCE"
  24. Didnt Miami offer land too? How does this address the growing funding gap? Haven't researched this, but I believe a problem with the OBowl site was the need to purchase land from surrounding property owners, lots of them, who (even in the obowl area) saw their value, or perceived value grow considerably. If you are dealing with one man, Codina, if may be a lot easier given the political and economic benefits to him to develop commercial sites all around the stadium. Shopping centers, etc.
