  1. I'm hoping Wakefield doesn't cause any long term damage to the sanity of our young hitters.
  2. Shame about the pickoff, that would have been a sac fly for for Hermida
  3. is de aza an outfielder? can he play center field, get where im going with this? Yep he is a CF. His best asset is his speed, which is outstanding. He is not ready as a hitter yet though and could need a while yet. His OBP of .360 does show some promise though, and he has gotten better as the season has progressed. He is though on the DL, and has been since the 9th of June. good info, thanks for droppin the knowledge...ps...so is campusano or de aza the everyday centerfielder for the cats? Campusano opened the year at CF with De Aza in left, as Campusano was a converted infielder and got the time to see how he went. As time progressed though due to injuries to both players they've both seen time in CF, and De Aza was playing there everyday pretty much before he got hurt.

  5. Anyone else having problems with mlb.tv?
  6. Not only does Beinfest deserve praise for the offseason trades, our current performance is also a real vindication of the work our organisation has done in drafting and development. The majority of contributors on our active roster are guys who were already in the system.
  7. Yep tough matchup for the lefties vs Kazmir so best to let Jacobs rest the ankle. Hermida vs. Kazmir should be interesting to watch.
  8. I think Joe Girardi, a guy who made his career as a defense first catcher, is primarily interested in how the catchers work with their pitchers first and foremost. So if Willis and Olsen, two highly strung individuals, react better with Treanor in there, then thats the guy who'll start behind the plate whether he hits or not. Now if you are in the school of thought that believes a catcher doesnt have any real impact on the performance of a particular pitcher, then you are clearly going to have a problem with Girardi's approach. I'm not, and I don't Plus, keep in mind that having a 3/2 workload split should really help both Olivo and Treanor hold up in the second half. Catching half your games in the heat of Miami is tough work.
  9. Looks like it'll be mostly fastballs tonight, and thats understandable. Thing is though second time through the lineup may well be an adventure. Minor league news tonight: Paul Mildren pitches 6 shutout innings for Carolina (game was called, so counts as a CG). Brett Sinkbeil pitched 4 shutout innings in his second start for Jamestown.
  10. Rain Delay. :plain Thank god for World Cup Soccer. Hopefully the Fish game will start in the 90th minute of Arg/Mexico :pray Altho possible extra time plus penalties
  11. Again this game will come down to who scores the most runs. Whats with people on this board going all Yogi Berra? Very true. Anyway its good to see the Tarp go on, as you can't take it off to play ball unless it goes on in the first place.
  12. LMAO... the Marlins are like liquid hot "maaagma" Why the picture of Cody Ross?
  13. Bring lots of umbrellas. NY looks set for a lot of rain all weekend
  14. Its possible Loria just liked the idea of possibly being able to talk to Bonds about baseball, his life etc. Not that Bonds would say a word of course I think the Giants are most upset at the fact Bonds accepted the offer.
  15. mlb.com have a digital download service, for around 3 dollars you can download and keep a copy of the broadcast. It might be the Baltimore broadcast team though.
  16. He struggles when starts, but he is showing some real aptitude for pinch hitting. The ability to hit from either side of the plate with power as a pinch hitter is a real plus.
  17. Depends on the severity of the injury, if Martinez ends up on the 60 day DL then a spot for someone like Ungs on the 40 man would open up.
  18. GCL Marlins are now 0-2, while Jamestown fell to 1-1 with a loss last night Butchy....the GCL marlins should we know anyone on that team that we need to follow as far as high draft picks 2nd round pick Thomas Hickman and 3rd round pick Torre Langley So Torre Langley already has signed a contract ? Following link has signed players in bold, and its updated as other players sign. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/200...am.php?team=FLA
  19. so besides them...who plays in the GCL??? i take it GCL is the lowest minor league system...right? GCL Jamestown Greesboro Jupiter Carolina Albuquerque right??? or am I missing something? Our GCL squad is usually a mixture of draftees from high school (including draft and follows out of high school the year before), and younger Latin American players who are deemed ready to bring over to the US minor leagues (we have guys signed obviously who still play in their country's national leagues). This year we had a very college heavy draft, so the proportion of players from outside the US should be pretty high. The high schoolers we did draft quite high have been mentioned above, there were some draft and follow guys from last year signed too. Infielder Logan Morrison was the highest of those, he hasn't played yet though. I hope Torre Langley and Scott Cousins progress fast. The most they are likely to do for the rest of this year is make it to Jamestown, but that'll only happen if they really tear it up in GCL ball. Jamestown is college level ball pretty much (with wooden bats of course) so it can still be a real test for a guy just out of high school. The main aim at this stage is preparing them for what they'll go through next year in Greensboro.
  20. On ESPN 2 right now.. Live from my home ballpark in Davenport.. could be the best Single A stadium in baseball.. i love it there I had to ump little kids tonight or I'd be there.. really wanted to see the HR derby edit: wrong game
  21. I can't stand Borchard. When is Willingham coming back? Willingham is currently playing in Carolina tonight, on rehab assignment. Singled his first time up.
  22. Just an FYI, Sinkbeil is getting his first start tonight in Jamestown. Inning one, scoreless, one K.
  23. Johnson's control could stand some improvement, but what the writer failed to raise at all is Johnson's excellent ability to keep his pitches down and produce ground balls. Hitters are slugging just .287 against Johnson, which is really remarkable. The next lowest starter in the majors is Derek Lowe with .313. Guys like Brandon Webb are almost 100 points higher than Johnson.
  24. Dont we have a history of bringing up top prospects from Double A when they do well there as opposed to AAA? I dont think Beckett, Willis, or Cabrera had to develop more in AAA. Willis and Cabrera both came up because we were in dire need. A.J Burnett was lost for the year, Beckett had blisters, we had spent 10 million on a year of Ivan Rodriguez, and we had a losing record. Willis came up at a time when Mark Redman was the only pitcher performing with any consistency and we were struggling to string 2 or 3 quality starts together. Cabrera came up as we had Todd Hollandsworth as our starting LF. Right now the team is winning, we aren't in desperate need of a starting pitcher right now, so there is no need to rush one up. A player isnt being rushed if he's ready. Absolutely, but can you say for certain he is ready? Before these last two good outings, the two before them he gave up 6 earned runs on 13 hits in 10 and a third innings. Now he throws a shutout and he is officially ready. Thing is though, its not even currently a question of him being ready. The questions are can he still improve in the minors? Do we really need him in the majors right now? Is it to our benefit to have all our top pitching prospects hitting arbitration at once? Renyel Pinto is a level higher and has a lower ERA in a hitters league, so he must be ready too. So why isn't he being called up? Same question, same answer.
