I was listening to Fox Sports Radio last night, and the guy was saying how the Yankees are the Yankees and they did not have to win this game. I completley disagree. Lose tonight and we have to win only 2 of 3 at home. Lose tonight and face Beckett, the hottest pitcher in baseball, looking to go up 3-0. Can the Yankees afford to lose tonight? Yankees have done it before though. In 1996 against the Braves they lost the first two at home, and were outscored 16-1 in the process, and then won the next four. For any other team in baseball, this would be a must-win. But the Yankees have been there so many times that they know it's not over until one team wins four games, not two, not matter whether they are.

Cabs getting traded??? WTF WHY WOULD THE MARLINS TRADE CABS? Cubs fans are so dumb. This kid cost us what? 300k? Do they even realize how trades work and why? It's not some kind of voting process. It's like Marlins2003 said - that thread was about Orlando Cabrera, not Miguel Cabrera. It looks like a Marlins fan was actually the first to misread it and talk about Miguel and then somebody responded to the Marlins fan. I think the Cubs fans are innocent on this one.

I think if/when Penny's second time to start in this series rolls around, Pavano pitches, just because they haven't seen him. Why? First, what if Pavano is in the rotation and is scheduled to start Game 4 anyway? Second, I think it totally 100% depends on his performance in Game 1. If he does well, he starts Game 5. If he pitches poorly, the rotation's odd man out (Willis or Pavano) starts Game 5. But McKeon isn't going to sit down somebody who had a good start just to give the Yankees a different look.

Why not add Phelps and drop Bump? You can't have too many lefties in Yankee Stadium. Unless they're already planning to drop Bump and add Andy Fox back into the mix.

I'd go Penny, Pavano, Beckett, Redman if it was up to me. Right-handed pitching in Yankee Stadium is scary, especially a relative soft-thrower like Pavano, but I don't have any faith that Willis can throw strikes right now and Redman won't be ready by Sunday. It doesn't matter if the Yankees have seen Willis or not - if he can't throw strikes he won't get people out.

He won't get an A-Rod type salary. A-Rod couldn't get an A-Rod salary if he was a free agent tomorrow. I'm thinking around $25-$27 million for 3 years. It's the 3 years that we probably can't commit to. Especially when you figure in the $7 million we still owe him from this year's contract. There's a better chance today that we'll keep him than at any point this season but it's still not a real good bet. Right now, I'm not worrying about it and I don't think Pudge is either.

Maybe for versatility? Because Cabrera can play the infield, you could move him around if necessary. If you start him as the DH, you can't move him into the field without losing your DH rights for the rest of the game. I'm just guessing though. I'd probably start Cabs or Conine as DH if it was up to me. But everything McKeon has done has worked, even when it hasn't seemed right at the time.

I don't even know if I'd want him to give us an inning. Every time we've tried that this postseason, our starter ended up sucking arse on his next start. When it's Game 7 of a series, you can't worry about the next start. You do whatever it takes.

If it goes 7, it'll be only 2 days rest since Game 7 is on Wednesday (I think). But he should be able to give us an inning.

It'll be Pavano in game 6. I heard it on WQAM on the way home from the game.

Pavano pitched an inning last night. But so did Penny. They also warmed up Pavano early Friday when Redman was struggling but ended up not needing him. I'm hoping that if it gets that far, Pavano is the guy in Game 6.

The Braves got to play the last two at home (I think). But we can do it. We just have to win today. Don't let the Cubs celebrate on our field. Then if we can do that, we try to get it to a 7th game. And if we can get it to a 7th game, anything can happen. I remember the Islanders coming from 3-0 down against the Penguins many years ago. And in the next series they almost did it again to the Flyers (down 3-0, tied it up at 3-3, and lost the 8th game). It's still possible.

I'm not glad he's gone, even though I've gone round and round with him many times. But he had good points and knew old-time baseball and loved his Marlins. I just wish he could let threads evolve and go off-topic like they invariably do.

Perhaps a start for Todd Hollandsworth? I would like Hollandsworth in LF,Encarnacion in RF,Lowell at third,Cabs at SS,Conine at first.If we have a nice lead in the late innnings we can substitute Gonzalez and Lee for defensive purposes. I wouldn't start Hollandsworth. Even when he was doing a good job pinch hitting down the stretch, he stunk in his occasional start. And he's so valuable as a lefty pinch-hitter. I agree that it's time for Cabs at SS. I'd also juggle the order to get Lee out of the cleanup slot.

I vote for Pavano in Game 6, then Mark Redman in Game 7. Who's with me?! :thumbup (....or has Pavano thrown out of the bullpen too much to start?) I'm with you on this one. I thought McKeon was setting that up by using Penny last night but then he used Pavano too. I'd also try Cabrera as SS. I was dead set against it until now but Beckett isn't a ground ball pitcher so maybe we could get away with it. And we need the offense.

Hollandsworth came through in the PH role even during the season. As much as I hated him when he was a regular, he impressed me with how professional he handled his demotion. He made himself important to the team where he could've been a distraction.

I don't think that's fair. Dombrowski dismantled this team because he was ordered to by his boss. He had two choices - do the best job he could or refuse and let somebody else do it. With the whole world knowing we were dumping talent, he still managed to get back Lowell, Beckett, Castro, Lee, Preston Wilson, Penny, Looper, and probably other players I can't think of off the top of my head. He wasn't perfect when he made all those trades but think where this team would be without those guys. If he had stood up to Huizenga and quit, who would've been making our trades? Do you think they'd have done better? As bad as it's been, it would've been a whole lot worse without Dombrowski. Beinfest deserves executive of the year for the job he's done but Dombrowski deserves some credit too.

Has Cabrera played any LF in the last month or so? I like the defense we're getting in LF from Conine. Cabrera mostly did well in LF but sometimes he looked like what he is - a rookie infielder playing LF for the first time. I think I'd stay with Cabrera at 3B and Conine in LF. As long as we're winning, I wouldn't mess with a good thing.
