This team is becoming so frustrating to watch. What's new? We get a good outing from our pitcher but the offense gives him no run support. The bats need to wake up fast. You took the words right outta my mouth. They seem to keep finding different ways to lose lately. To add insult to injury, just when you start thinking theres a chance during a game, they blow it. Oh well, at least football season is starting up soon. Go Cowboys!

Again, again, again, this team failed to get at the pitcher when they had the opportunity. 3rd inning, bases loaded, 1 out and no RBI. Perez can get rattled easily. but if you let him off the hook he settles in very easily. Just look when he smashed his bat after the strikeout. Lol, almost every bat on this team is batting around .260. None at .300. WTF? For the record, while I think we should have been able to beat him... I don't think many teams would have gotten that run in with their 8-9 hitters up. A valid point that I cannot argue with, however a sacfly would have been nice. Lets see if they give Olsen a little run support tonight.

Here's the thing, the guys we got back are huge for us, but nationally, they're still relatively unknown. Johnson and Sanchez have each only had 1 successful season in the bigs prior to this year, and Volstad is a fairly highly rated prospect in our own system, but not rated nearly as high nationally as a guy like Beckett was coming up. To add to that, all 3 have pitched well, but haven't really thrown any gems yet for us since their return either. So to the uninformed, it just looks like we replaced 3 mediocre arms with 3 more arms. To educated Marlins fans, we replaced 3 mediocre guys with quite possibly our best 3 pitchers (although Nolasco definitely looks to be in that discussion now). It still speaks poorly on the national media that they haven't covered this yet, but I don't blame the average fan for not recognizing how improved our staff is. If the average Philly or Met fan thinks our staff still sucks, thats fine, they'll be in for a shock. But if Steve Phillips does... just shows he doesn't do his job. We're lucky as Marlins fans to have had 2 of the best GM's in baseball pretty much for our entire clubs existence (Dombrowski and Beinfest). Nice point, and Id like to add that while Volstad and Sanchez threw pretty good first games, tonights from Sanchez and Volstad's last performance show that these two aren't nearly as consistant as they need to be yet. This is August and whoever has the most consistancy will win the division. Freddy said not to expect too much from Sanchez and Johnson and right we shouldn't. Volstad has only thrown 2 games. Lets see a few 7-8 inning games from them with 3 earned runs or less in each start to proclaim these 3 as the saviors of our rotation.

Robert Andino sure had the suprise hit of the game. Wow! I think once Hanley struck out for the second out it took the wind out of everyones sail. To see him drive in the two runners in scoring position with that double was amazing. Really blew it open for Gregg to actually have an easy 9th.

All Black Marlin Hat, you took my opening post for exactly for what I wanted people to take from it. Thank you for clearing it up for some on this board. I never said Miller didn't have great stuff or that they had great hits off him. The number of walks is unacceptable and if you read his facial expressions after each pitch in that first inning, it's clear he is frustrated and had no confidence in his pitches. I stated that I believe he is not ready to pitch at this level and needs time in the minors to develop. Getting shelled in the first inning of every start will not help his confidence. When Mitre comes back, this is what I believe will happen. Plus what the hell does making this point have anything to do with being a fairweather fan? Honestly, take a chill pill.

Well as Tommy mentioned, Miller does not do well in the first couple innings as a starter. It seems clear to me that he needs more time in the minors because the walks are embarassing. Im guessing when Mitre comes back, this is what will happen.

Great control of his curveball and fastball. Tall, young homegrown kid...he's got a bright future.

Too many pieces missing to really make a difference in October...if there is one for us. The catcher position is beyond pathetic...Rabelo, Treanor...Yeesh. Lacking offensively more than anything. Not one dependable arm in the bullpen. I miss the Todd Jones of 2005...*sigh Not one ace in the rotation...yet. Too many injuries and young inconsistant and unproven starters. I REALLY miss Josh Beckett... :whistle

The two obvious issues with the team right now is the number of errors, which has been consistant the last few years and pitching, (more the bullpen lately.) I can't honestly think of anyone to depend on in the bullpen right now. What is the team era right now? Bullpen era.? Errors on the year? Thanks, I tried looking for these stats...

T.V. is where sports make their money. Putting fans in seats is nice but not really a big deal.

To me a blind pitcher is not closer material. I would assume that's common sense. A walk, and a hit batter in the same inning?! Gregg?s 4th blown save of the season, and he gets the win over Miller who shut down the Philli powerhouse offense. Thats just sad...

Well, I'm one of the people who has more or less cut ties with this team. It wasn't just this trade, but this was kind of the last straw. I was pretty apathetic towards the franchise last year. I went to 2 games last year. I used to go to 30 a year. It's not just the firesales, or that idiot Samson belittling the fanbase with idiot comments time and time again, or Loria hoodwinking the loyal season ticket holders a couple years ago...it's those things and plenty more. It's one thing after another. I think the bottom line is that people appear to root for this team for different reasons. I have no idea why some of you root for this team; I really just don't understand what the attraction is. And I'm not at all saying you're a bunch of morons, or that you shouldn't root for the team...I'm just saying I don't understand WHY it is you do root for the team. And maybe you don't either. Maybe it's not something you can put into words. But for me it was always a mix between an attachment to the players, and, I think more than anything else, a sense of community, a sense of civic pride or whatever in our local team. That's why I root for all the Miami teams. It's why I switched allegiances from the Phillies (and I was a DIEHARD Phillies fan; my Bar Mitzvah was Phillies themed) back around 1995. But as I said in the other thread--that sense of civic pride has been shot to hell with this team. No one involved in the franchise in any way gives a rat's ass about this town, or the people here, and that has to include the players. It just has to. Because they know if they're any good, there's nothing here for them. This is a waystation. They play in front of handfuls of people. I mean, there's just no roots. If this franchise ever grows roots again, I'll come back. If they get a stadium, if they show at least some sign of dedication to this town, I'll come back. But right now? There's just nothing left for me to root for, and that's not going to change in the very near future. But like I said, we all root for the Marlins for different reasons, and I guess for most of you, your reasons for caring have not been taken away from you. I still like baseball, and this team still has some players that are fun to watch. And if I have nothing else to do, I will put the game on in the background. But on a given summer day, there will probably be a 100 things I'd rather do before I actually go to a game, and I'm certainly not going to be clearing space in my schedule so I can watch the game on TV. When I say I'm done, I am in no way "hurting myself", or trying to hurt anyone else. I'm just saying how it is. The things that I used to root for, the things I used to be passionate about, they're all gone. For those who still have reasons to give a damn, I hope the Marlins bring you many W's. Great post bro. I think you put into words great reasons most people root for a team. It's not a damn piece of cloth were rooting for. It's the players and the pride of the town and team. There is none of that here and franky Im sick of it. At least if the Dolphins ever aquire good players they will likely pay to keep them. To be honest this is embarrasing...

I just read about this today and Im very dissappointed. I like DVH and Roxy. They each added their own cool quirks to the game. I only listen to the games on the radio, and love hearing Roxy say "That was a bad call by the ump!" or when DVH says, "Up, up, and away!" They both pwned the television guys! Wow, this team has offseason dissappointments every year! :banghead
