2012 First Year Player Draft
just my opinion here, but we should go after someone good. Well that would be a 1st for Beinfest. His 1st round picks have all been busts so far - but of course 2009, 2010, 2011 can't be determined yet and 2008 has possibilities but not promising so far. I feel sorry for Heaney, his chances of making the bigs are low if you look at the Beinfest numbers. If he doesn't make it, it's because Beinfest selected him? Man that is strange. Not exactly what I said but if you want to look at that way you can. I have no other way to see Beinfest's failures in the 1st round. Throwing a dart at a board would get you better results than he has had. This is like his 16th 1st round pick for the Marlins, and not a single one has been a major contributor except for Volstad. Tankersley had some time with us before he bombed out, and Dominguez was annointed the 3rd base guy before he showed that so far he is not ready. Beinfest is holding this franchise back. Those 1st round picks are your best chance to get better, and he fails us each and every time. Meanwhile teams like the Nationals and Rays continue to obliterate us in the draft, even in the later rounds. I will pop champagne the day Beinfest is gone.

How Good Can This Team Be?
This homestand will be a huge factor in determining the rest of the season. We go 1-8 or 2-9 (which is possible) we could dig a hole we will have a very hard time climbing out of. However if we can go at least 5-4 we can hold our own. My thinking is if the timely offense is still there as it has been in May, we could go 6-3 and be either in 1st or 2nd and be poised to do great things later this year. This months schedule is brutal, and I would guess the toughest in baseball. If we go .500 for this month, Ozzie should win manager of the year. The margin is very thin, and I hope the competitiveness of the players shines forth the next 3 ½ weeks.

Youk on the trading block
Trade? Who do we send? Lol We'll just send them a bunch of no name prospects and Gaby and they'll be sure to accept. At least that's what many here seem to believe. If the FO had taken the draft more seriously we wouldn't be in this position. The blame seems to always change, but who is it ? Loria for not spending money on a 1st class scouting department ? Beinfest for making poor choices ? Hill for whatever it is he does ? (it seems that Beinfest still is the acting GM no matter what title he and Hill have) Whoever is to blame, it's going to cost Loria in free agency until something is done to correct it. Why is it that Tampa Bay, Kansas City, etc, can have LOADED farm systems and the Marlins have next to nothing ? I won't take the "we brought everyone up last year" excuse.....that doesn't fly. Most of this team has been built on free agency & trades, not home grown talent. Loria will have to continue to overpay for players until he makes the necessary changes and gets better scouting. I find it confounding that more on this board haven't talked about this. The Marlins could have been light years ahead of where they are, if only they had been making wiser choices in aquiring talent. Buehrle should never have happened, had just one of Beinfest's 1st round flops in 2005 worked out. He had five 1st round picks that year, and spent every single one of them on a pitcher, and not one is on this team. None are even in the Marlins minor league system IIRC. That is inexcusable. So who's fault is it ? Loria for not spending money on scouting or Beinfest no being able to be the man we need on draft day ? Looking at Beinfest's drafts is not pretty. 2003 was just about a complete washout. Only Logan Kensing and Jai Millar saw playing time. In the 2004 draft the only player that has ever made an impact in the majors was Vargas, who of course we traded away (for Lindstrom & Owens). 2005 was the infamous 5 first round busts. 2006 gave us Coghlan, Cousins and Sanabia, who in the end have had little lasting affect on the team, and have little to no trade value. 2007 was his best draft to date, with Stanton, Petersen & Cishek, but another flop in the 1st round with Matt Dominguez. 2008 is another unremarkable draft. 2009, 2010 & 2011 of course are to yet be determined, but still, c'mon that is pretty crappy. And make no mistake, Mr. Loria paid for that this off-season. Again, who is to blame ? Loria or Beinfest ? EDIT : I think West is in our system, but not sure.

NCAA Baseball 2012
U of Miami got a present from the NCAA Tournament Committee with hosting a Regional. I surely thought that they would be # 2 seed in Gainsville.

This morning's Herald....
It's not just the Herald. WIOD 610AM, our local talk radio station, has an irrational hatred of all things Marlins. Specially Rich Minaya, whose always telling radio listeners not to go to Marlins games or support the team, and seems to praise Braman all the time. I took 610 off the pre-sets of my radio years ago. Who even listen's to them anymore ? I wouldn't worry about them or that Fish Wrapper called the Herald. It's only use is to line the bottom of a bird cage.

Arbitration buyout - Stanton
Mike Stanton will get a big contract, but not from the Yankees but from his hometown team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Marlins monthly show last year had an issue with Stanton and his words & demeanor when at Dodger Stadium told me all I needed to see. He said his dream is to one day wear Dodger Blue. As for what bad moves has the front office made, well what GOOD move have they made in the 1st round of the draft ? Every single pick has been a bust or close to it. They have made 14 picks (5 in 2005 and ALL of them busts) since they have been here and at least 10 of them have been horrible. Even with just one of those guys making it as a starter in our rotation Buherle and his big contract are not necessary, and maybe, just maybe you spend that money on better scouting ? Which I have been told time and again on this board we are some of the lowest spenders in scouting (which to me is stupifying since that to me would be the one area you'd want to spend money on if you are a cash-strapped franchise as we have been in the past).

My condolences to Omar and his family.

Roof to be closed till October?
I personally don't want any additional sound absorption; I think loud is good. I agree. For too many years Marlins home games have sounded like funerals more than ballgames. Time to listen to and enjoy the cheering crowds.

Stanton's angst over Marlins Park's fences... (ESPN article)
Down the line, this may be part of whether or not Stanton signs a long term deal here, or goes to his hometown Dodgers (with all their new found money). Unless something is signed by the end of next year, put your money on him being traded. Lets just hope its for more than Miller & Corbin.... ::::sigh:::: I can't ever see them just letting him walk....

Noob here with a question
LOL-Worried about safety because of an out of town license plate? It's not like you're going to Fenway with a Yankees license plate... Nothing to worry about. He's not worried because somebody will think he 's a Cubs fan smarty pants. He's worried because he doesn't want to make it obvious that he's out of his environment. Reasonable thing to worry about, but you shouldn't have to. Thank you brother. You just hit the nail on the head. :banana I have this concern no matter where I go when I leave far away from IL and I've heard bad things about that area from people who have lived in the Miami area, but it sounds like I'll be alright. I usually like to get to games early anyway. I'm a Cards fan by the way folks. I've lived my entire life about 90 minutes southeast of St Louis. I'm a good 6 hours from Chicago. There is no problem with the area around the ballpark. It's a lower income area, but not unsafe at all. Besides there will be thousands of others at the ballgame, and there is safety in numbers. Sounds like you got advice from some of those "Miami Haters", who it sometimes seems are much of the rest of the citizens of Florida. If they can put Miami down, they will.

Bell: "God’s testing me right now"
He's going to be fine, his issue is that he can't throw his curve for a strike, resulting in many 2 strike fastballs which most MLB hitters can handle no matter how hard it's thrown. If he can get in a groove and find that curveball again then we'll be seeing the All-Star closer that we wanted. Best post in this thread, by FAR.

crazy - he always seemed like such a happy dude. yeah wonder if the concussions had taken a toll... Many times people put on a "happy face" to cover what is really going on inside. They are embarrassed or too shy to admit they have a problem.

Man R.I.P Junior Seau. 4 Saints suspended. and condolences to his family. Seau was the one that started "Shop with a Jock" in San Diego and then he continued it here with the Dolphins. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Miami Dolphins players & cheerleaders are paired with deserving under-priviledged kids for a 1 hour Holiday shopping spree at the Publix on Las Olas near downtown Ft Lauderdale. When Junior left in 2005 he gave the blessing to the Dolphins to continue the charity giveaway, and to this day its one of the best things the Dolphins do every year for their community.

I like the two wide recievers Miami got as undrafted free agents over the ones they drafted. Fuller and Moye were both productive in college and have good size/speed combonations. Like the idea of keeping the Tannehill-Fuller connection intact. I think the Dolphins now have some nice depth at WR with Bess, Hartline, Gates, Fuller, and Moye. Now two of them need to step up and be the go-to-guys. The undrafted safety Kelcie McCray also intrigues me. What about Wallace and Moore ? They didn't play much but they are still on the team

Petersen, Jennings recalled
Excellent move with Petey, it's about time. Now, more importantly, does the Petey & LoMo Show start up again or was that a Spring Training thing only ?

4/27 post ga-- ... whatever.
Quick Hits : 2002 WS champ Angels started the season with 6-14 record. And my farts stink.....so what ? The Angels 2002 team has ZERO relation to the 2012 Marlins. You can't be serious. The point is that the sampling size is the same. You can't judge the quality of the team (and where the team will finish after 162 games) based upon a meager 20 game sampling. This isn't a meager 20 game sampling. The offense was "offensive" during spring training too. Its been this way since they started this year.

It's like June 2011 all over again... :glare I don't know why everyone is so surprised, as its basically the same cast playing the games. The talent we have is just overrated, plain & simple.

Another great off-season by this front office and they will be contenders for real next year. I'm extremely encouraged by the Panthers. Now the Marlins, not so......
