September 8, 200422 yr Link I doubt he'll have a big role, but you can never have too many arms. Plus, it's always nice to have an original Marlin back.
September 8, 200422 yr The return of David Weathers! Designated Chip Ambres for assignment. 547179 eh J wont be happy about that, especially if he is claimed
September 8, 200422 yr He's probably the best available at this time.....we need as many arms as we can get for this upcoming stretch.
September 8, 200422 yr That bullpen's going to be pretty crowded with 10 guys down there now: Manzanillo, Seanez, Bump, Mota, Koch, Benitez, Weathers, Small, Howard, Perisho.
September 8, 200422 yr hey as far as im concerned Weathers can still pitch pretty darn good and plus he has been in those though situations when you need someone with experience ... plus he would be a great addition to a playoff bullpen... man has our pen gone through a complete makeover still I find it weird the astros let him go does anyone have the stats of Weathers as an Astro and as a Met this year?
September 8, 200422 yr Works for me.. We'll need as many arms as possible during this streak of what, 100 games in 27 days
September 8, 200422 yr MIAMI -- Continuing to stockpile arms for a busy stretch run, the Marlins signed free agent veteran David Weathers on Wednesday and designated minor league outfielder Chip Ambres for assignment. Weathers, who was designated for assignment by the Astros on Aug. 27, is expected to provide depth to the bullpen. With 29 games scheduled to be played over the next 27 days, the Marlins are in need of relief. They are hoping the addition of Weathers, who turns 35 on Sept. 25, will give them another setup right-hander to go along with Rudy Seanez. Weathers is 6-7 with a 4.52 ERA in 58 games this season. He started the year with the Mets, going 5-3 with a 4.28 ERA in 32 games. On June 17, he was dealt to the Astros as part of the trade for outfielder Richard Hidalgo. In 26 games with the Astros, Weathers was 1-4 with a 4.78 ERA before he was designated for assignment. This is Weathers' second stint with the Marlins. He was with the club from 1993-96, when he was traded to the Yankees for pitcher Mark Hutton. Weathers has also pitched for Cleveland, Milwaukee and the Chicago Cubs. Ambres, 24, was the Marlins' first round pick in the 1998 draft. but he wont be in the pen for the playoffs, he was signed after august 31
September 8, 200422 yr Ambres has sucked at AA this year. He started off hot if I remember correctly and then just went through a streak where he couldn't have been colder.
September 8, 200422 yr Ambres has sucked at AA this year. He started off hot if I remember correctly and then just went through a streak where he couldn't have been colder. 547261 He did well the last few games to finish with 20HR, 70+ walks, 26SB.
September 8, 200422 yr I like it. He can be a decent arm out of the pen and we need help on that department.
September 8, 200422 yr does anyone have the stats of Weathers as an Astro and as a Met this year? 547211 http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/ml...playerID=124000 Astros, I think, haven't lost since they released him. :o
September 8, 200422 yr Sorta similar in getting Rick Helling: Former Marlins hanging on for their lives. At least he is an MLB player.
September 8, 200422 yr Pretty cool! the return of Weathers. looking forward to seeing him at a game. go Marlins!
September 8, 200422 yr I have such unabashed confidence in Admin Beinfest that if this is the guy he wants I say, great. Maybe a few weeks off will have been good for DW because if you look at his August performance it was pitiful. Good luck David. Welcome aboard.
September 8, 200422 yr Waiting for our astute on-site statiticians... nobody coming to bat. Weathers, is 6W, 7L, no saves. 66 innings. 51 K. 72 Hits. 28 BB. 33 ER. 4.52 ERA. Once a prospect, he became a mediocre journeyman. I credit the FO for still trying to build the team within budget! Weathers, at age 35, is "seasoned" but not so seasoned as to be withered. He can still come in and (hopefully) please Jack by not Walking anybody! He may well respond to this "Last Hurrah."
September 8, 200422 yr This guy was decent with the Mets, got traded to Astros for Hidalgo and totally sucked. Don't expect anything productive out of him.
September 8, 200422 yr Very good move, though I believe Houston let him go due to a dead arm.too bad he can't pitch in the playoffs, if you make it.
September 8, 200422 yr there was another washed-up guy we nabbed after he was dropped....named Chad Fox
