Posted April 11, 200519 yr As much as it would pain me to see Jeff go it seems like that is where he could help us most. Trade him away for a lefty specialist. What do you think?
April 11, 200519 yr Na, I think we should keep him because of his experiance and the fact that he can play 3 positions (if needed).
April 11, 200519 yr No. I don't want this team to trade the farm by the breake because we lost one of our starters to an injury. Conine is a very valuable piece.
April 11, 200519 yr Nah, Conine needs to finish his career here. 737522Â My thoughts exactly.
April 11, 200519 yr Conine's problem besides his health, is grand slam encarnacion. As long as enc continues to play well, conine wont see much playing time, even though the season is very long, and if conine doesnt see much playing time you gotta believe the FO will trade either him or enc away. Conine will eventually start complaining about playing time more than he already has. He's still too serviceable to rot on the bench

April 11, 200519 yr Steve isn't going anywhere, he is going to finish his career with the Marlins and then remain with the team in some facet, probably in the front office as a "special advisor to the general manager" or something along those lines. Unless Niner was traded for Albert Pujols or Vlad Guerrero, the Marlins would take a beating in the press and they would really upset the entire fanbase. Beinfest and Loria have too much to lose by trading away Niner.
April 11, 200519 yr Niner will stay. This is home for him. And home is important to him. The new restaurant is an interesting diversion but, in fact, he wants it to work. That's his style. By mid-season he will get his share of AB's. He plays three (arguably four) positions and these over-bred thorough-breds are prone to disabling injuries. Steve will be important. I do think Jack is making a mistake keeping him in the Gate. He's not used to bench-squatting. Not good psychologically for a champion, just as it wasn't good for champion JP. Jack is thinking about the long-haul. He doesn't realize that part of the long-haul is the short-haul.
April 11, 200519 yr Anyone find it odd that Conine hasn't come as a defensive replacement for Cabs or JP (through Enc) or Delgado? Probably the result of the feat or famine offense, having no close leads when Niner comes into the game.
April 11, 200519 yr Keep him. He's a pro. He'll get used to his bench spot, and who knows, maybe someone will slump or get injured and he'll need to play more often. He's a great guy to have in the clubhouse and on the bench.
April 11, 200519 yr With Conine on out bench, with Easley, Treanor and Aguila...man what a bench. 737745 and cant forget Harris :lol
April 11, 200519 yr We don't need a lefty specialist we have Perisho, Mecir could even be considered a lefty specialist with his screwball.
April 11, 200519 yr We should keep him. Hell be a big help when one of our guys get hurt or need a day off. Its good to have Niner there just in case. Plus, he can have his at bats to contribute to the team.
April 11, 200519 yr Official Nominee for Ridiculous Post of the Day... :hat 737860 I say Ridiculous Post of the Year .. but it wouldn't win cus of Piginator :plain
