BBTN's love for the Marlins.

Featured Replies

Is it me or does BBTN never show Marlins highlights? Right now I am watching BBTN and they only showed the Marlins box score. No highlights whats so ever. I was gone today and I wanted to watch the highlights for the game. Oh they just showed Miggy hitting a homer. Someone said "Poor guy".

I also remember one other time they never showed any highlights or box score on BBTN.

Gotta love how BBTN shows their love for the Marlins.

marlins v pirates has the same chance of getting any play as fiu v fau football.

Yeah, I just saw that. That pissed me off. Why dont they talk about how good our offense has been so far or the great talent that we posses? Instead they make dumb remarks which make them look even more ignorant and their rants make them seem even more unproffessionnal.

I know, I was really pissed off. I don't know if they'd been doing this all year since I only watch when the fish win. I know today Tommy was complainig about how little respect we are getting nationally, and he is absoultely right. I mean they could of at least mentiond that Hanley leads the league in average. Instead all we get is a box score and a poor Miguel comment.

What did BBTN say about the fish in '03? I wasnt around to hear it.

They weren't giving the Marlins any respect at all and they essentially wrote us off as having zero chance against the Yankees in the WS,

They should just change it from Baseball Tonight to Red Sox and Yankee Highlights

My thoughts exactly

Yep. All they talk about are the Sox and Yanks. Like Randy Johnson's struggles. Do they have to go on and on about him. Why do they have to have a segment every day about a Yankee or Sox player? It can't be why the _____ are struggling. _____ has looked better this week.

ESPN is an entertainment network built purely on profitability, it is certainly not sports journalism. Crap sells to the masses... T.O., Randy Moss, Spree.

The FSN Baseball Report (I think that's what it's called?) is a great baseball highlights show, the analysis is good, the highlights are nice and long, and they give every team the same amount of coverage.

The only time they've ever given us fair air time was when we were in the postseason. and that's just cause they pretty much have to there.

Except for Jeff Brantley -- he picked us early and rode with us all the way and ended up with a smile on his face. He also is on record as saying he likes what the Marlins have going for them, and that we'll be really good in 2 years. Brantley is our man, Kruk on the other hand jabs us as often as he can -- being an ex-Phillie.

well they have always viewed us as nothing since forever lol, yeah back in 03 they didnt even think we would beat the Giants in the first round. they dont ever start talking about the Marlins unless its about Willis posting big numbers or Cabrera doing the same or if the Marlins or on a hotstreak, other then that they dont get good playtime on the highlights. Royals get better highlights then them.

Well it was the two worst teams in baseball playing.

If the Yankees were in last place and they were playing the second to last place Red Sox they would have spent 10 minutes on the game.

:thumbup

Two of the worst teams in baseball playing in two markets where nobody cares about baseball. Of course they wouldn't show many highlights. They cater to the teams people care about, not teams they don't. ESPN is a business and they deliver a product. They deliver what a majority of the people want to see. The "slighted" Marlins or Pirates fan will watch anyway hoping to see highlights, but they have to draw in those casual viewers with crap about Johnny Damon's haircut or Anna Benson.

Chicken or the Egg. Are certain teams "not a draw" because they don't get any air time, or do they not get any airtime because they are "not a draw" ? Until the Marlins consistantly do something, like the Braves for a number of years in a row, and gain fans and viewers around the country, we'll always be caught in the vicious cycle mentioned above.

The only mention I saw of the Marlins on a recent BBTN broadcast was Orestes Destrade shooting down another "Will the Marlins trade Willis or Cabrera?" question/rumor from Ravitch a couple days ago. Destrade has been pretty consistent in this.

Face it, the only way the Marlins will get mentioned positively is: a) We thrash a big market team (and even then there will be excuses made for why the big market team lost) b) A Marlins SP pitches a no hitter or a one-hit shutout c) Web Gems

Otherwise we can only expect to see us mentioned negatively. Games with alot of errors, blown leads, big losses, etc.

I doubt this will change unless the Marlins manage to put together something like a 10+ game winning streak. Then our games will merit a 25 second spot on broadcasts. If it is a 10+ game losing streak, we'll probably get a full minute.

last night they mentioned Cabrera in "going-Going-Gone"..."The only Bright Spot on the Marlins"! This right after only showing a BOX SCORE of the game!

Come on, the Marlins are a MLB team...give us our due!

I'd like to say Tim Cowlishaw has always been good about giving the Fish props. Granted, he's not a major ESPN personality, and only appears sporadicially on Around the Horn, but the fact remains he is ON ESPN and that has to count for something.
