June 27, 200619 yr http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/arti...ergoes_surgery/ ESPN baseball analyst Peter Gammons, 61, is undergoing surgery this afternoon for an aneurysm in his brain. Gammons was stricken earlier today and was taken to a Boston-area hospital. He is expected to be in intensive care for the next 10 to 12 days. Gammons and the Globe were the trailblazers of the baseball notes format in the 1970s. From that time until 2000, save for a few interruptions in the 1980s, Gammons's unique take on baseball was a mainstay of the Sunday Globe's sports section. Gammons was honored as the recipient of the 2004 J.G. Taylor Spink Award for outstanding baseball writing during the 2005 Hall of Fame induction ceremony July 31 in Cooperstown, N.Y. He was selected in balloting by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He began his career as a reporter for the Boston Globe in 1969 and wrote a very popular weekly Sunday baseball column for many years. He has also worked for Sports Illustrated covering the National Hockey League, college basketball and Major League Baseball (1976-78, 1986-90). In 1986, upon his return to Sports Illustrated as a senior writer following a second stay at the Globe, he wrote numerous stories covering some of baseball's most important news events, as well as authoring "Inside Baseball," Sports Illustrated's weekly baseball notebook. Born April 9, 1945, Gammons is a native of Boston, raised in nearby Groton, Mass. He attended the University of North Carolina and is married. Here's to a speedy recovery Mr. Gammons. Baseball is better with you.
June 27, 200619 yr oh my god :o Hopefully he pulls through and has a full recovery, Gammons was one of the only national media analysts who predicted the Marlins would be something special this season and I was fortunate enough to briefly meet him at ST this past year. Get well soon Mr. Gammons
June 27, 200619 yr Damn. That explains why he wasn't on Boog's show today. Get better soon Peter! Baseball is definetly better with you.
June 27, 200619 yr He was suppose to be on Boog's show today and Boog said he couldn't get through to him...i don't think boog knew.. anyhow Get Well Soon Peter...your reports will be missed
June 27, 200619 yr I can't believe he is only 61. I thought he had to be at least 70 at the youngest.
June 28, 200619 yr Rich Waltz just said he was in intensive care I can't stand Gammons, for the record, but I'm wishing him a speedy recovery and hope he can make it back.
June 28, 200619 yr Damn. He is a class act. Thats a shocker. Just goes to show you that you never know. Anyday could be your last. Get well soon (better be back for the Marlins wildcard hunt of September 2006)
June 28, 200619 yr Usually in a health situation like this there is no gettting well soon. It's either a full recovery over time or a relatively quick death or a life that gets prolonged in a bad way. Like him or dislike him, my hopes are for a recovery. And I can't avoid the black humor.....I hope when he recovers he's lost the Red Sox Nation part of his brain...and he comes back as a Marlins fan.
June 28, 200619 yr Not good...these kinds of things never end up good. My prayers are with him. Hope he can make it.

Thankfully his aneurysm did not burst, that helps his chances at a full recovery alot more. This is based on just a very small ammount of knowledge I have on the subject. If anyone has personal experiences/stories (I had an uncle who had one when I was young but I don't know the details about it) on the subject and would like to share I'd be interested.
June 28, 200619 yr Longtime ESPN Baseball analyst Peter Gammons is out of surgery and resting in intensive care after undergoing an operation to treat an aneurysm in his brain Tuesday. Gammons suffered the aneurysm Tuesday morning near his home on Cape Cod, Mass. He was airlifted to a Boston hospital, where the surgery was performed. Lets all hope and pray that Peter is okey
June 28, 200619 yr Dang! I might not always agree with the things that he says, but he is still one of the most knowledgeable reporters out there. Here is wishing you a full recovery Mr. Gammons, my family and my prayers are with you and your family.
June 28, 200619 yr Wow, this really sucks, this is actually one of my favorite sports analyist. get well soon Pete.
June 28, 200619 yr Damn. I find his insights and comments more productive than most of the other so-called analysts on ESPN. Get well soon Peter.
June 28, 200619 yr I am a huge Peter Gammons fan. I don't follow any other sports, so I always look forward to seeing him on Sportscenter during the offseason. If Peter is on, I know they're talking baseball.. He also, surprisingly, is very knowledgable about alternative rock. If you ever read his columns, he throws in some bands he recommends at the end. I don't know much about aneurysms, but I had a friend that had one about 10 months ago. She went into intensive care and began to recover, before she had some complications. She passed away about a week after getting the aneurysm. My thoughts and prayers are with Peter and his family that he does not go down the same path. I am praying for a complete recovery from one of the best baseball minds and Hall of Famer, Peter Gammons....
