I read that A-Rod's owed 62 million over the next 4 years by the Yankees not 66, not that it really matters. This is all speculation on ESPN's part at this point. Do I think it could happen? Sure, but I would be shocked if it does. The Yankees would probably have to eat about half of his contract for us to even start thinking about a possible deal, and there are other teams that could probably give up more if we don't give up Willis, which would be a mistake in my opinion.

I'm not saying I wouldn't deal D-Train to get A-Rod I'm just saying that even with A-Rod, we're going to need Dontrelle to make a run at another World Series, because I really don't think all of our young starters are going to match the kind of years they had this season. I think a guy like Olsen could take a step forward, but I really don't see Johnson and Sanchez matching the kind of years they had in 2006. If they do, great, but we shouldn't count on them doing so. Also, taking into consideration that signing Miguel should be priority #1, and who knows what are financial situation will be in a couple years, if I were to guess I'd say it probably won't be good, so we have to be very careful if we were to make a deal like this.

You can't be serious. How about comparing attendance at games? Do those ratings also include the local ratings for the nationally televised games, or just on Sun Sports?

The Marlins' World Series run in 2003 outrated the NBA Finals run of the Heat in 2006 by at least 5 points every game, just for starters.

 

Secondly, the tv ratings even in a down year this year are higher than the Heat. The attendance, despite the horrendous numbers, was just 5,000 lower than the Heat in their banner year for the franchise. Take a year previous (2005), when the average attendance was higher than the 2005-2006 Heat even with all the conditions keeping people away.

 

And oh, btw, on average baseball is much more popular than basketball in the US. The World Series outrates the NBA Finals by a lot every year and baseball sets a new attendance record every year, in parks that hold more people and with teams that play more games. Your argument is wrong.

It was more than that. In the local ratings the '03 WS averaged 38.0 compared to 27.1 for the '06 NBA finals. The '97 WS averaged 41.9.

Just a funny concept... we trade pitching to get A-Rod... the Yankees make the World Series again, only to find the Marlins high powered offense, and good young arms waiting for them... in the series, the Yankees lose in 6 (again) this time recording their last out at DS and A-Rod hits like 4 homeruns and bats .360+ in the series...
