November 6, 200619 yr :lol I was going to say... Didnt he just suggest the same players in his first post?
November 6, 200619 yr Lidge and Taveras sounds good. what's a reasonable price? pinto, petit, & reed?
November 6, 200619 yr NO Dice! sorry I like Lidge but I don't think we give up starting pitching for him unless they would take Petit or Mitre Petit, Mitre, & Vargas for Lidge, Taveras, and maybe a bullpen arm (I have no idea who else the Stros have)? Wouldn't we get arrested for swindling? It wouldn't be the first time. Ask the Cubs.
November 6, 200619 yr Lidge & Taveras would take at least a package of Jacobs and two of Nolasco/Pinto/Petit/Garcia
November 6, 200619 yr I really think the concept of value, especially talented young starting pitching, is so lost that it's not even worth hypothesizing here. Jesus.
November 7, 200619 yr That should explain that. :whistle I know there are tons of Pujols in the league.... :| :|
November 7, 200619 yr Id rather have Vic Darensburg closing games in 2007 than Brad Lidge (for what we'd have to give up for him).
November 7, 200619 yr I'd rather give Mota a shot He's suspended the first 50 games of next year and will most likely be off the roids
November 7, 200619 yr I'd rather give Mota a shot He's suspended the first 50 games of next year and will most likely be off the roids How do you know it was roids? They havent said what it was

November 7, 200619 yr :lol I was going to say... Didnt he just suggest the same players in his first post? Shamrock sometimes you are such a pain...I never said Houston would agree to it I just meant I don't believe at this juncture Lidge is worth any of our frontline pitching if they were willing to accept any of our excess starting pitcher then I would consider making a trade for Lidge. If the price were to be JJ, Olsen or even Nolasco, it wouldn't be even worth a conversation. Is that so hard for you to understand? Gosh. I wish some people in this forum didn't believe themselves to be the ultimate baseball authorities and look at everyone else from their high horses.
November 7, 200619 yr When you think of Armando Benitez you can't help but think of his contributions in 2005 but unfortunately after hamstring surgery, elbow woes and now two bad knees and surgery planned on at least one, I'm fearful the 2007 edition will be a mere shadow of his former self. Lidge, who knows? But something says to me that a few years from now teams throughout baseball will be kicking themselves for not taking a flyer on the guy in 2007.

Benitez has very little left in the gastank these days
November 7, 200619 yr Lidge, who knows? But something says to me that a few years from now teams throughout baseball will be kicking themselves for not taking a flyer on the guy in 2007. Just to play devil's advocate on this: Lidge isn't cheap, few teams can afford to pay a closer the amount Lidge is going to be making. Add to this that a closer is rarely worth the price of admission if you're building on a budget and, well, you see where I'm headed. Plus, it's not that hard to come into a game, with the lead, and get 3 outs before giving up 2 runs. Given the roll of the dice on Lidge, plus the cost of his salary, plus the lost value of prospects used to acquire him...and, well, I don't think we'll be losing sleep at night. That, and I happen to think Tankersley would be a substantially better closer than any option out there.
November 7, 200619 yr Are you insane? For the love of god, man. You've really outdone yourself with that post. you know, I do realize that moves being made exactly the way I've said are probably as likely as A-Rod coming, but what's the point of posting this? I'm really curious. Beyond that, I realize that those 3 look terrible, but if you say all someone wants is cheap young starting pitching, those 3 are it. Pinto's got good minor league numbers and hasn't really had a chance to start. The other 2 have actually looked pretty good at brief times no matter how much its overlooked on this board. On the other end, everyone here talks Taveras so far down that I'm forced to assume he would come dirt cheap. No idea on Lidge though.
November 7, 200619 yr If some of you guys were GM for even a week...everyone else would hangup as soon as they saw: "...Florida Marlins calling...." You just have no clue on the value players have. Agreed. Lidge is one of the most talented closers in the game, and it'll take a good little chuck to pry him out of Houston.

That, and I happen to think Tankersley would be a substantially better closer than any option out there. I happen to agree, especially as far as the Marlins are concerned. My comments were directed at baseball as a whole. This is a guy who in his worst MLB season had 100+ strikeouts in seventy-five innings. There's still alot to work with there if he finds the right situation and the right situation finds him.
November 7, 200619 yr What is the point in proposing an IMPOSSIBLE trade scenario? The three names you mentioned aren't enough to get Lidge alone most likely, and yet you throw in Taveras AND another reliever? And why are you mentioning Pinto all of a sudden? His name wasn't included previously. You are overrating the Marlins talent and seem to forget the fact that the other team also needs to be willing to go through with the deal. And just because some of us aren't fans of Taveras and feel he isn't a good fit for the club, that doesn't mean other teams wouldn't want him. I happen to think Juan Pierre is easily one of the worst CF talents in baseball and yet he is highly valued by other teams. Perhaps that says something about your ability to evaluate talent as well. What was the point in all the A-Rod talk that was going on last month? I meant Petit BTW. Wrote it too fast.
