I'm a Dodger fan and I hate the Phillies. I bet if I was a Seibu Lions fan I would still hate the Phillies. It's just natural I think.

Even in 03, when we attracted 30 to 40,000 on weekends the fans of opposing teams are annoying as hell.

 

 

Gotta join the group here, I hate the Phillies. I actually pretty much hate all of our division rivals. I think it's mostly due to the fact of how annoying their fans are when they are at our stadium.

Nah, I barely consider them a rival, didn't even think of them when I wrote that sentence. Although getting swept by them like last time around will help me hate them some more.

I completely understand hating the teams in your division, and even though I am a huge Eagles fan, I understand anyone's hate for them, but it comes as a surprise to me that Marlins fans would not dislike, but HATE the Phillies. It's like Phillies fans hating the Nationals or something like that.

A review of the Marlins-Phillies rivalry since I've been following the Marlins:

 

-July 2001: The 5 game sweep in Philadelphia that basically ends the up-and-coming Marlins season.

-2002: Philly domination of the Marlins continues headed by Bobby Abreu and Jimmy Rollins.

-2003: The Wild Card race. Marlins domination of the Phillies down the stretch. Jeff Conine's catch in Philadelphia in late September. Conine follows up the Catch with a HUGE series against the Phillies a few days later in the final sweep that eliminates the Phillies from play-off contention.

-2004: Brawl in Philly. Marlins domination of the Phillies continues. Countless heartbreaking (for Philly) losses (Lowell 3 homer game, Choi BOMB at DS, Benitez comes in in the 8th bases loaded 3-1 count and escapes, etc.).

-2005: Marlins dominate Philly early in the season but the tide turns in the last few months. In late Sept. the 9 run, 9th inning at Dolphin Stadium, with D-Train on the mound, on national TV, in the heat of the playoff race.

-2006: Phillies dominate (just absolute domination) young Marlins. Phillie attack led by Utley, Rollins and Howard, all three of which look godly against the Marlins. Olsen "I hate Philadelphia" comments.

They boo everyone including/especially their own guys. Theyre bad fans. Theyre very.... hateable.... Anyway, I would probably need to go to DS during a Philly game to actually get that hatred for Phil fans. I don't know why but I have no actualy hatred toward them. I think it's cause the only Phil fans I have heard from are the ones from the mlb.com message board. That place is so down, eveyrone there keeps predicitng losses and every other topic is a death threat to manuel. You should go there, it makes emo kids look happy.

I'm a Redskins fan as well as a Marlins fan. My division rivals include the Eagles and the Phillies, my teams play them often, and get beat by them often, thus the Phillies and the Eagles get on my nerves more than almost any team in their respective league.

 

Let me also add - the Phillies logo is awfully stupid looking.

I live 90 minutes west of Philly and I hate the ph*cking Phillies...Most of the fans that I have met are not classy, I've had Philly fans try to pick a fistfight with me in front of my dad once at the old Vet.

Philadelphia has a reputation for being bad fans.

 

So far, I have found the Orioles fans to be much nicer when the Fish come to their town. They actually will sit and talk baseball with me (even though I have my Florida jersey on). They would ask me Who's that in RF? What young prospects are coming? etc... They were fun to be around.

Yeah, when I went to CBP in my Fish gear, I was not well met at all. I got a good amount of jeers and taunts. I don't really care, because I'm bigger than most of the people in the ballpark (in the stands at least).

I don't hate the Phillies, just the Braves and especially the Mets. I'm originally from Cherry Hill, NJ and grew up a Phillies fan. When baseball arrrived in South Florida in 1993, I was 11 years old, and began following the Marlins. That season, whenever Philadelphia was in town, I would go to the games, bringing a cap for each team. Half way through the 5th inning, I would take off my Phillies hat and put on my teal Marlins hat. None of the surrounding fans liked that. I remember one guy telling me that a fan can't root for two teams, but I didn't care. In hindsight, I guess "the switch" was a symbolic gesture of my waning allegiance, and by the next year the Phillies were long forgotten.

The only reason I hate them is because besides that stretch from 2003-2005 where we went like 20-3 against them, it seems like they always beat us. The 5 game sweep in 2001, 9 run 9th in 2005, etc...

Even recently, there really hasn't been anything unlikeable about them. Wouldn't you guys hate the Braves or the Mets more? I know Phillies fans hate the Braves and Mets much more than the Marlins.

I actually think Philsfan has been pretty nice after all these bad answers given by our forum , and yet no one has answered his initial question? Why does Olsen hate the phils so much?
