July 7, 200719 yr It's very funny series vs. Dodgers. Did you remember May? We were victims of strikeout & no-hitter. They were victims of walkoff.
July 7, 200719 yr Great win against a solid team... no complaints here (although I have not see the Hermida play)
July 7, 200719 yr Concerning to me Gregg's ball to strike ratio over his last few appearances. Not what you want at all. Dontrelle continues to be a head-scratcher.
July 7, 200719 yr Hopefully Pinto keeps it up. Would be huge if he gets back to form. What happened to Tankersly? Is he still around?

July 7, 200719 yr Tank is in Albuquerque. Whether he still goes by Tank or Isotope T is anyones guess, however.
July 7, 200719 yr Concerning to me Gregg's ball to strike ratio over his last few appearances. Not what you want at all. Dontrelle continues to be a head-scratcher. I've noticed that about Gregg as well. He just hasn't been the lights out guy he was. The AS break may be coming at a great time for him to rest up but if that is the reason for his play of late then here's hoping they have an idea who to replace him with. Ther are alot of games to go starting next Friday. I like Bennie but he isn't durable enough to last.
July 7, 200719 yr So now we know why Dontrelle flew back home... espn Marlins 6, Dodgers 5 (10 innings) LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Hanley Ramirez surprised Chad Billingsley by homering on his second pitch. Ramirez hit another one later, then shocked the Dodgers with a go-ahead bunt single in the 10th inning. Ramirez's impressive display led the Florida Marlins to a 6-5 victory Friday night and sent Los Angeles to its third straight loss. The victory enabled Dontrelle Willis to enjoy his latest no-decision after spending part of the week attending to his ailing wife, Natalee, back in Miami. "I always go out there with my family in mind," Willis said. "My wife's sick, but I didn't let that [distract] me today. I went out there with her in my heart and I did the best I could tonight." Willis allowed five runs -- four earned -- and seven hits over six innings with six strikeouts after squandering an early 3-0 lead. He and his wife became parents for the first time on April 24 when Natalee gave birth to a daughter, Adrianna Rose. "She told me to go out there and have fun. It's kind of hard when you're seeing your wife hooked up to an I.V., but I felt like going back to see her was the right thing to do," Willis said. "I love this game, but I love her more. I think my teammates and coaching staff understand that I had to miss a couple of days and take care of some business back home, so I owed it to them to come back and make this start and not put the burden on someone else." Jeremy Hermida drew a leadoff walk in the 10th from Brett Tomko (1-7). One out later, pinch-runner Eric Reed stole second. After a walk to Alfredo Amezaga, pinch-hitter Todd Linden beat out a potential double-play grounder, leaving runners at the corners with two outs. Ramirez then dropped a perfect bunt down the third-base line and Tony Abreu had no play as Reed scored. "Nobody was expecting it, and that's why it worked so well," Reed said. "The guy threw it right down the middle and Hanley laid down a perfect bunt. Henley's game is more than just power. It's also speed. And it's always a weapon when he's able to get a bunt in critical situations, because nobody plays in on him." Renyel Pinto (1-3) allowed one hit over two scoreless innings for his first major league win, and Kevin Gregg got three outs for his 18th save in 19 attempts. Gregg retired his first two batters before walking the next three, but Juan Pierre popped up a fastball to shortstop and Ramirez caught it for the final out. "It didn't look pretty, but we won," said Gregg, who has walked 25 batters in 50 2/3 innings. "Tonight it was a little bit of a mechanical flaw -- just getting inside the ball and pushing it off the inside corner of the plate. Some of the walks I use in certain situations, but I feel comfortable pitching with guys on base. I don't want them to be that high, but it's working for me so far, so I can't complain." The Marlins tied it 5-all in the ninth against closer Takashi Saito on a one-out walk to Dan Uggla and an RBI double by Miguel Cabrera, who will be Saito's teammate at Tuesday's All-Star Game. The blown save was the second this season for Saito in 25 attempts, and only his fourth in 51 career save situations. The right-hander came in having walked only three batters in his previous 35 2/3 innings this season. "The key to the game was when they scored off Saito," Dodgers manager Grady Little said. "That's a backbreaker. We needed to recover from that, and we weren't able to." Ramirez, the 2006 NL Rookie of the Year, trimmed the Dodgers' lead to 5-4 in the seventh with his 14th homer -- putting him within three of last year's total. Willis took a two-hitter and a 3-0 lead into the fifth before the Dodgers pulled ahead with five two-out runs. The big blow was Russell Martin's two-run homer. Luis Gonzalez scored when Hermida tried to one-hand Nomar Garciaparra's routine fly to right and dropped it for the Marlins' 72nd error -- most in the majors. Billingsley, who pitched seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball last Sunday against San Diego, allowed Ramirez's ninth career leadoff homer. Ramirez's seven leadoff homers last year tied the major league record for rookies, set by Garciaparra in 1997 with Boston. Game notes Dodgers reliever Joe Beimel, making his first appearance since spending two nights in a hospital with heart palpitations, faced one batter and gave up a single to Jacobs in the seventh. ... Willis has a career record of 35-17 with a 3.47 ERA before the All-Star break, and is 23-22 with a 3.77 ERA after it. ... The other time Ramirez led off a game with a home run this season was April 17 at Houston in a 6-1 loss. It came off Roy Oswalt, who was pitching on short rest. ... Jacobs snapped an 0-for-18 drought with a first-inning double.

Ever since he picked that Godsmack crap over the Superman theme, he's been weak. Hell, it doesn't have to be Superman, but closer music has a certain feel to it. He needs to take a note from Hoffman, who realized that haunting bells are the way to go, and Wagner(and Rivera a bit later), that Metallica is great for closers, and start using "For Whom the Bell Tolls"... And yes, I really do blame Godsmack.
July 7, 200719 yr I didnt watch the game last night (I was on a mini vacation). BUT Awesome job Hanley.
July 7, 200719 yr Just more proof that if it wasn't for his defense, Hanley would be heading to San Fran with Miggy for the All Star Game. Also, Miggy is clutch. :mischief And Dontrelle.... :confused

How many times have we asked him to get 6 outs lately? How many close ballgames have we brought him into? He is on the verge of being overworked IMO
July 7, 200719 yr Willis continues to be perplexing. Cruising along and that he just pulls an Olsen. I agree. I noticed something... the inning he gave up all those runs he kept looking into the dugout. It almost looked like he had lost focused. Looked very ADD.
July 7, 200719 yr Dontrelle continues to be a head-scratcher. He seemed to lose focus. But the article above makes sense, now. Perhaps his wife has been ill all season long, and that explains why he loses focus sometimes.

July 7, 200719 yr Dontrelle continues to be a head-scratcher. He seemed to lose focus. But the article above makes sense, now. Perhaps his wife has been ill all season long, and that explains why he loses focus sometimes. And she was sick in '04 and '06, too? That game last night was the perfect microcosm for his career. Almost teasingly good, then implosion when the team needs it most. Pile on Hermida for the 5th run, sure, but the first four were all on Dontrelle, and even if Hermida catches the ball, the Dodgers only bat 8 guys in the inning instead of 9.
July 7, 200719 yr just some thoughts on this game.. Hermida has to feeling real good considering we came back and Won this. All is forgiven if u ask me, he did help us win Thursday's game and he was the one that worked the leadoff walk in the 10th inning against Tomko. Hanley had a hell of a game! He played very good defense today, circling them and throwing out very quick runners. IE: Furcal, Pierre. He also provided the pop with 2 HR, and the very awesome play of dropping down the drag bunt. Jacobs was smoking the ball all game, if it wasnt for Kemp making that play in RF, we would have had more. Willis had one bad inning in which a couple of the balls were basically right down the middle but he pitched well besides that. Oveall i loved that we came back in the 9th and were able to tie it off the Dodger closer. Really reminded me of the Gagne, Harris moment. Nice stuff!
July 7, 200719 yr Come on TSwift you know that's not true. You must be confusing AJ Burnett with Dontrelle Willis. He's the guy who would collapse and give up 5 runs after his team had given him 5 runs. Waltzy mentioned this last night, I can't remember the exact numbers, but Willis has a ridiculous record when the Marlins give him 3 or more runs.
July 7, 200719 yr by the way, how good was Hanley's defense tonight? Unbelievable. I'm going to have to take a nap to get ready for tonights game sometime this afternoon.
