He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime. The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams -- they separated in September, 2007. He plays the Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight." MSNBC is reporting that the actor was found, surrounded by pills. RIP

January 22, 200818 yr I really am saddened by this news, I have always liked Ledger as an actor; its really disappointing to see this considering I never really suspected that he was a dug user. I guess you can just call me naive, but I always assumed he was more grounded having a family and all. I'll be looking foward to watching Dark Knight even more now... bittersweet as it will be.

Regardless of what you think of the outcome, it's a little too soon to be so insensitive to the situation....don't you think? what i think? sleeping pills were found all over the floor. unless he simply keeled over while taking the recommended dosage, he was an idiot, and there is no need for me to be 'sensitive'. But hey, he was going to play the Joker so lets all be mournful. He also played some gay guy, so lets just all assume that it was simply an unfortunate situation and not him being a freaking idiot. This happens to Joe Blow from Kansas City, Missouri, he is called an idiot and nobody cares.
January 23, 200818 yr MAN! He played a fine role in my favorite movie of all time with Mel Gibson, The Patriot, this is trully a tragedy. Goes to show what being famous does to most people. It can make you be forgotten or send you to the grave.
January 23, 200818 yr According to TMZ he had pnemonia and the bills were related and it is very possible it was accidental death. We will find out after autospy.
