Concept Renderings

Featured Replies

So I was over on FishStripes.com and I stumbled upon a blog post in which a fellow Marlin fan posted some pictures of the what new ballpark will look like (or at least thinks it should look like).

Here is what the post read:

This is my first post, I've been toying with this general idea

since college (grad 99) but wanted to refine it as I felt it was overlappingwith some ideas presented by the marlins.

After about a month of work/+ design, I'm finally done with my concept for a Marlins Ballpark. The goal was a to work within the constrains of the current design brief : a smaller, retractable roof stadium. Pulling inspiration from their current home, Miami Architecture, an Aquarium (that would glow similiar to the Beijing Olympic Swim Arena) . I wanted to shoehorn a somewhat simple baseball field layout into a more complex, non traditional exterior and seating bowl.

If my model wasn't so large (slowing down my computer) I would have added graphics to some of the exterior, curved lines (instead of the sharp angles) and I would of loved to have the "aquarium" glow similiarto the beijing arena, but again, I'm limited by the program and knowledge of it.

I'd love to hear what some Marlins fans have to say about the ballpark

Keep in mind, these are very unofficial. But needless to say, they look very good, and I could definitely see the new park looking very similar to these renderings.

Teal monster AND the bermuda triangle :mischief

The outter walls of the ballpark are just too plain. But guess it looks good being an amateur rendering and all.

Something about it is just blah..

I like the Aquarium idea.. Not sure if that's originally his..

First thing I thought as well.

I don't like the bermuda triangle, though. I think he should have just completed the seats in dead center instead of leaving the open space.

And the team has spoken about a possible aquarium as a family attraction at the ballpark.

It really isn't bad for an amateur design. It looks like a pitchers park which is great and keeps some of the traditions that we are used to.

I don't know why, but to me it looks a little to much like a minor league or spring training park on the inside.

hey like the design or not...

...lets be thankful we are finally at the stage where we can talk about possible looks for a ballpark!

:D

I really hope(but fear he will) that Loria doesn't put an emphasis on the outside walls of the stadium. Put the money and design work on the inside, who cares what it looks like on the outside?

They can't because no seats can exist in dead center as per MLB rules. But I'm not feeling this design. Why not more seats in Left?

I commend the effort. My graphic skills aren't up to that level, even though I could probably get my architect friend to draw something up on AutoCAD (since he fantasizes about his firm design the park).

The only comment/critique I have about the design here is that it pretty much rules out the park being air conditioned. It is open and basically just has a sliding roof over it. The sides are open. It is nice -- for Seattle (it looks an awful lot like Safeco Field), but not for South Florida. Expect a more enclosed type structure to accommodate A/C.

Ditto. For being a football only stadium DS had some nice features that I feel are signature to the team.

It's not impressive, but it is nice. IMO...With the Marlins paying for overruns, they would be conservative with the design trying to control cost as much as possible.

I can't wait to see it built

Joe Robbie had Dolphin Stadium designed with football, baseball, and soccer in mind. That's why it's wider than most football stadiums, to have room for baseball and soccer.

I saw this design at another website. Whoever did it did a pretty good job.

I like the retention of the dimensions and the Teal Tower. Gives it some continuity from Dolphin Stadium.

I'd like to see teal as the primary color of the ballpark (for example, the seats and the fences). It is unique to the Marlins and South Florida and it would be a shame to abandon it. I liked back when the letter on the uniforms was teal as opposed to black. Black looks too much like any other team.

My only minor problem with this design is that it doesn't look all that enclosed--it looks like the roof will cover the field but keep the elements opened. And while I really don't care about that personally (and would rather see the new park be open air), the team's whole reason to get a retractable roof ballpark was to have AC on the hot and humid days. I dont' think this design takes this into account.

But other than that, good job. I'd like to see a design like this implemented.

It looks like a spring training facility with just a couple of touches to make it look like a ML ballpark. Its great for an amatuer design though :thumbup

I actually like the design, even tho I would prefer an Art Deco Design to fit in better with Miami...

If we have to go modern, which it looks like we're going to do, this still keeps the inside from looking too much like those cookie cutter parks of the 70s....
