August 1, 200818 yr We all may have our doubts with certain positions and arguments for both sides, people we want to see called up, blah blah blah.... ... but there is no doubt that with the new rotation, JJ and Anibal back, and Volstad looking good in his 1st season, that we have good starting pitching... (what the f***, right?) We obviously have an offense capable of scoring runs... When is the last time you felt this good about the Marlins?
August 1, 200818 yr Not since '03. The teams in '04 and '05 were good, but the magic just wasn't there like it was in '03 and it seems to be here now.
August 1, 200818 yr 03' I have always loved my team, but this year has me feeling extra warm and fuzzy inside.
August 1, 200818 yr i was thinking today to myself... i can't wait for the game because i truly think that they're going to win tonight, and not just tonight, every night... and you have to think the players are thinking that too.. i remember that's how it was in '03, they said they came to the ballpark expecting to win every night.... anyone else have that feeling?
August 1, 200818 yr Author Definitely.... .... I feel like we are going to win every night, and there is nothing else about it... someway we will pull it off and win.... .... and when we lose I feel like.... it really sucks...... ... but... I just look to the next night and expect a win... maybe its a bad thing, but its awesome.
August 1, 200818 yr 2006. Now, I'm not saying that I thought they were going to win the WS, but I felt great about that team.
August 1, 200818 yr 2006. Now, I'm not saying that I thought they were going to win the WS, but I felt great about that team. agreed, the difference is that team won around there pitching, this year we have won with our hitting, but now those pitchers who were great in 06 are all coming back.
August 1, 200818 yr Author When they were in 1st place, earlier in the year. lol fair enough, although I was talking about other than this year... you make a good point, there was a point when we struggled and things didn't look as good, and now we are back and stronger than we were earlier in the year... I love this team
August 1, 200818 yr '03 and the begining of '04. What sucks, but it's a good thing too, is that we're being counted out. I have some Yankee fans in my family (puke - and they are all sure that it's gonna be Muts vs Yanks this year.) who think we won't get anywhere. Right now, we need to keep them bats moving! Our bullpen, after the ASB is getting really good and now with our starting rotation, I think we're gonna start climbing back up to number 1. What we need to do is hit and not think, always about a homer. Homers are nice, but, just a single is all you need sometimes. You can't help your team if you strike out a lot.
August 1, 200818 yr i'd feel better about our current team if we had a reliable veteran pitcher. i'd love to get vicente padilla but he makes too much money and the rangers probably aren't trading him. hopefully volstad continues to pitch well and anibal and jj continue to be good after their injuries. i got to say we have a pretty good starting rotation with anibal, olsen, jj, nolasco, and volstad. the only person i'm really worried about is nolasco because i think he's been pitching over his head and i don't think he can keep it up.
August 2, 200818 yr nice jinx post then turned out to be........... .............. .............. .............. ............... ................
August 2, 200818 yr Some of you guys got a little too excited when the Marlins beat the crap out of a bad pitcher. They're going to win more games like yesterday, and lose more games like today.
August 2, 200818 yr The game by game anxiety is starting to really get annoying. Win the series, repeat until you enjoy champaign 4 times
August 2, 200818 yr It felt like the '98 Marlins tonight. Ugh! Ugh, I try to block out that Marlins era as much as possible. So depressing. Anyhoo, 2003 was definitely magical, but I am gonna have to go with 2006 here as the last time I felt 'this good' about the Fish. Not gonna lie, it took me until June to really warm up to them, but since then I've really been behind this group. Their rise back to .500 was awesome....so many great moments from Miggy's intentional walk hit to all of Anibal's starts. My only regret is that on the day of Anibal's no-hitter, the SunSports in Gainesville decided to play fishing instead of the Marlins (This happened way too much when I was in college). I miserably followed the last few innings on Gameday. Luckily, they replayed the entire game a few nights later. But I was hella pissed that I missed it live.
August 2, 200818 yr The thing is I feel like the losses are so bad because we REALLY do expect them to win. I don't know if the players expect to win but if they do I am sure they feel as bummed as we do when there is a loss. But I really started only to expect to win every game after the last Phillies series. Now I really feel like we will give EVERY team a run for their money. That little feeling of winning every day kinda started when we beat Brandon Webb with Nolasco on the mound and then we ended up sweeping the D-Backs. You know what would really get me? When we beat Jamie Moyer in a few days... and it WILL happen. I am calling it right here, right now.
August 2, 200818 yr I've felt good about the 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 teams at one point or another. I'm pretty optimistic about the Marlins usually. The key with all those teams was starting pitching for me, we need at least 3 promising starters for me to get up for the team, and in almost every one of those years we had that. I never really worry about position players, they're replaceable, but its always difficult to get solid starting pitching. I'm actually almost as excited about this staff as I was about the ones in the early 2000's (but we don't have anyone as promising as a Beckett or Burnett yet, except maybe Andrew Miller).

Miller has always been a higher rated prospect than Burnett ever was. I wasn't aware of Miller's ranking... I haven't really followed prospect rankings for a few years now, so I was only judging him based on what I've seen (I can believe it though, he has nasty stuff). That is good to hear. Just from what I've seen, Beckett, Burnett and Miller are all pretty similar in terms of stuff, with guys like Penny, Johnson and Volstad a notch below them (Penny probably the best of those 3, could throw 97 but not enough movement on the fastball, great curve).
August 2, 200818 yr I felt they had a good team with Joe G. at te helm, it didn't work out that well ,but this team is having a hell of a run
