September 4, 200817 yr I'm glad I moved outta Homestead. Then again, Orlando isn't exactly "safe" from hurricanes. Figured that out with Charley, didn't ya? :mischief I lived in Orlando during Charley. Everyone from Tampa got hotel rooms in Orlando, and the storm ended up hitting Orlando. Moved from Orlando the day after. Was still going to move
September 4, 200817 yr I'm glad I moved outta Homestead. Then again, Orlando isn't exactly "safe" from hurricanes. Figured that out with Charley, didn't ya? :mischief We weren't here for that, thankfully. We just moved up here in June, right before all the hurricanes.
September 4, 200817 yr damn if this storm really hits us as a 3,4 or 5 I am going up to see my sister in Tallahassee. We will have to take my dog to a hotel that will accept dogs :confused
September 4, 200817 yr These paths change every few hours. I would not freak out right now. Just wait until it gets alittle closer and then if its coming... then freak out.

September 5, 200817 yr Author Start freaking out... Shutters, any medicines, enough food & water to last 5-7 days. Don't forget about your pets. They will be more scared than we will.

September 5, 200817 yr o man its exactly like wilma pluses no school or work for 2-3 days minuses it might destroy parts of florida and parts of our houses I was thinking more like Andrew, but most of Andrews intensification was within 24 hours of landfall. Some of the characteristics are the same though, compact but strong, currently being blocked by a high pressure ridge from moving north. Right now, I see the latest model runs have more of the models letting Ike move north over the Bahamas. Funny part is that the GFDL and HWRF (the two models the NHC loves the most) have the storm more to the south than most of the others. The models seemed more in agreement 2 days ago. Just shows how much it changes. And I am not even thinking about it until Sunday (of course, we were prepared months ago...)
September 5, 200817 yr If it comes, it comes. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Hurricanes don't terrify me one bit.

September 5, 200817 yr I live in a f***ing mobile home. I'm really hoping and praying it isn't going to hit us.

There are no pluses with a hurricane of this magnitude.

There are no pluses with a hurricane of this magnitude. You beat me to the punch. We live in Pembroke Pines. When we got Wilma, a Cat 1, we were without power for 6 days. And- the only reason we were up & running before tons of others is because we're on the same grid as the PPines Police & Fire Dept. Remember- all essential services get priority over everything else. Hopefully a good thing is, most gas stations have their own generators, so gas (as long as it lasts) will be available. Get tarps or Visqueen now- these are coverings in case windows/roof is compromised. Everyone- be safe!!
September 5, 200817 yr So according to that 5 am model that shows it just off the coast of Florida as a Cat 4, and then halfway through the peninsula as a Cat 2....What does that mean in terms of it's intensity at landfall on the east coast of FL? Cat. 3? Cat. 4?
September 5, 200817 yr Looks like the track gets shifted further south with each update so far, I wonder if that trend is going to continue
September 5, 200817 yr o man its exactly like wilma I beg to differ. Wilma crossed the state from west to east -- the opposite of this one. I was thinking more like Andrew, but most of Andrews intensification was within 24 hours of landfall. Some of the characteristics are the same though, compact but strong, currently being blocked by a high pressure ridge from moving north. ... And I am not even thinking about it until Sunday (of course, we were prepared months ago...) Agreed, on both points. It's still too early to call. I'm cautious, but hopeful.
September 5, 200817 yr He's 9, he doesn't think clearly. This. Some of you need to rethink things. Is "2-3 days of no school" really worth maybe 20-30 deaths and 20-300 million dollars in damages? Yeah...think about it. It shouldn't take you too long to realize you're making an arse out of yourself.
September 5, 200817 yr my dads a cop hes gonna get 38 bucks an hour for 12 hours since their going into "Bravo" mode or something like that all they do is chill in the station during the storm pretty slack another reason I wanna be a cop...
September 5, 200817 yr If someone mentions "no school" one more time, I will murder them. Exactly. Maybe someone mentions OH WE WONT HAVE SCHOOL if its just a tropical storm, but hurricanes .. no thanks, let someone else have "no school" .. I'd rather keep my power, home, etc.
