Yankees fans need to learn to shut up when you lose a game and a series and not answer everything with "we've got 26 rings"

Ha! They are so annoying. I went on Friday and there was this one guy who had a seat right above the Yanks dugout who literally stood up each time one of our pitchers threw strikes and he tried arguing balls to the ump. EACH AND EVERY TIME. Amazing. I think I like the Mets fans better. It pains me to say that.

I also love how when it they make it a 1 run game with one out left they act like they have already won the game. Shut up because we still have the lead and only need one out!! but no they are yankees fans they dont have any common sense

The only thing with no common sense was that post.

Lindstrom has only cost the Marlins 1 game this season.

He has 3 blown saves and 2 blown loses.

He has 2 blown saves, and yes, it only cost us 1 game b/c we won one of those blown saves. Still doesn't mean he's pitched well.

your right common sense was the wrong term to use, they are just arrogant

Lindstrom's numbers are just bad when you actually break them down. His ERA is close to 6 now. His K/BB ratio is 26/20, which is also pretty lousy. His WHIP is almost 2 (also really bad). Really the fact that he has ONLY blown 2 save opportunities is the best number he has working for him at this point.

Volstad. He pitched a great game and when he allowed runs, they came off of ground balls (mostly,) and that's a very good sign. He bounced back after a rough inning.

Before all the hating on Lindstrom comes on the post, to whoever reads this and wants to hate, F*** you, he got the job done. Yeah it was scary, but it's the Yankees for crying out loud. They have hitters who can hit realize that. Marlins win that's all that matters.

Calm down, dude. I've been defending Lindstrom for a while, and even I was dissapointed.

Calm down? I was totally calm before I wrote this post. It's sad when you can predetermine what the forum was going to be because of what happened tonight. Why were you disappointed? Because he got 2 outs and the Yankees decided they wanted to make it a close game by putting 3 hits together? There were 11 blown saves tonight in MLB and yeah it could have been 12, but it wasn't. I agree with you that he needs to be more consistent. From an individual standpoint his statistics blow (giving up a 7 spot and a 4 spot killed his era and it's unfortunate that you can't take that away-it is what it is), but looking at it from a team perspective I'm glad that he was able to regroup and make a pitch to Jeter to end the game. I'm glad the team won.

Kevin Gregg was the goat last year. Lindstrom is the goat in the 9th this year-I guess it comes with the job description. I appreciate you defending him, however, if you quit I'm sure he won't lose any sleep over it.

Whoops, guess that's what I get for not looking it up first.

Just so you know, he wasn't happy with the way he pitched today. In my opinion he has been far less of what I expected him to do this year. He has disappointed, but of course he is trying to do his best. He's not trying to strike out A-Rod and get 2 outs and all of a sudden say I'm going to make this thing interesting and try to piss all of the fans off by allowing 3 hits, a walk, and 2 runs. Fact is he hasn't been sharp, he's gotten lucky at times, been good at times, and this is the term that desribes inconsistency.

He said that he couldn't feel the ball come out of his hand on that last pitch to Jeter and luckily for him he rolled it over to Hanley. His arm was tired and his elbow hurts a little bit from throwing side sessions in Boston and pitching back to back to back days. He absolutely got lucky today, he's just glad he didn't let the team down or the fans (although he inevitably has in ways because fans have huge expectations).

How are you calm when you said F*** you to anyone that hates?

For the bolded statemant, I might. I can't keep defending a guy that is going to fail night in and night out. If he doesn't stay consistent, he should and will( I think) be removed from the closers role.

With the bats finally heating up and the SP solid as of late, I really hate Lindstrom closing games. I don't think Nunez is the permanent answer but, he is surely a more consistent option. Lindstrom will prove to be nothing more than middle reliever/boderline setup guy in his career.

The next couple weeks I think we will have quite a few save oppt. If we blow even 2 of them it could really hurt the ego of this team. These next couple weeks are crucial if we have a legitimate chance of making a run for the playoffs.

Yeah, he got the "save."

Btw, remember when you asked the other day? It's outings like these that often make the "save" stat an overrated stat.

Yeah a 3 run "cushion" against the highest payroll in baseball with one of the best lineups money can buy; way overrated. Besides it's not about individual statistics, it's about winning as a team!

And he did it Saturday night with a 1 run lead. How soon some forget.

It just makes me wonder how he'd do if we were leading by only 1 run. *Shudder*

See my above post.

Why are you, suddenly, changing the conversation?

I know it's about the team. But right now we're talking about the closer. The closer didn't really do his job today. Hayden Penn can come in and allow 2 runs in 1 inning.

Don't give me the highest payroll crap either. You're always making excuses for the guy. Lindstrom did a great job last night, and did not do so well today, at all. He, simply, continues his inconsistent ways.

Unfortunately, b/c of the overrated save statistic...he'll remain the closer b/c he's now 14/16 in the role. But logic tells you (looking at some other stats) that he's truly playing with fire, and has gotten fortunate to have that %.

Bingo. Someone who is not making up their own facts or disregarding what has actually happened in order to bolster their opinion. Inconsistency is what keeps me on the edge of my seat when Matt enters a game.

We had a totally different take. Went to all 3 games and not one problem. Sure, there were a couple that were annoying at times, but we found the Yankees fans to be much better behaved than Mets, Phillies, or Cubs fans. Much better. And we get there early to take in the atmosphere and mingle with the crowd. Exception was Friday when that drive there turned into a 2+ hour nightmare on the turnpike. Would have been longer had I not got off the t/p and gone a couple exits south before getting back on. Still don't see how moving to the OB site will change that. But that's a whole 'nother story.

There will always be some jerks. Some chided about attendance. Until they were reminded they live here and they don't attend either. Or what their attendance looked like back in the 80's or even before Torre. Saturday I actually took that damn bell out of the box before the game because in the smoking area two Yank fans that are residents here were doing nothing but complaining about everything from parking to whatever. Decided I may as well annoy them some more. It was actually kinda fun. The whole series was, much to my amazment. Even in the loss. The wife even said Saturday was one of the most fun times she has had at a game. This was a series I wasn't looking forward to. Even considered selling our tickets on StubHub for the huge profit some of my friends got. VERY glad I didn't.

To those of you that live within an hour or so and didn't go to any of the games.... Well....never mind. Your loss.

The same bats that produced only 8 runs in the 5 games prior to yesterday's game?

I just bought sat. radio this weekend so I could listen to the games at work and then on the drive home - last night was my first trip into insanity, i was driving to an event with my wife and we're heading toward the parking lot, 2 outs in the 9th and things started to fall apart

i sat in my car listening and going slowly insane ..... had to go in with 3 balls to damon and the 2 runs already in ..... drove me nuts

it was nice to see jeter disapoint the chanting masses 2 consecutive nights though

I'm dating back to the Toronto series and we did face some pretty good pitching between BOS/NY

And he did it Saturday night with a 1 run lead. How soon some forget.

So you feel comfortable when he comes in? Or you think "He got the job done last night"?

I already answered that. But I will again, just for you. No, I don't feel comfortable when he comes in. Inconsistency. But I would have to go back a few years to find a closer I did feel comfortable with. I've already put in a request to stadium management for a new seat. I've worn out the edge on mine over the years.

So "He got the job done last night"?? Well....we did win, and that's the bottom line. I think that attitude is better than thinking "yea we won but he still sucks." I think it's a waste to go through life always looking for the dark side of things. Fredi has him on a short leash right now. And rightfully so. I glanced over to the pen when things were getting sticky and Meyer was doing a quick warm up (don't know if they mentioned that on TV). I thought Fredi was going to pull him when they had the tying run at 3rd, but evidently he knew something we didn't. Or just got lucky. Who knows. But it was evident the thought did cross Fredi's, Coyote's, and Tosca's collective minds. We are going to have to look at it their way. One game at a time. Besides, it's not like this board is any where near the Mendoza line at picking who should stay and who should go. "Be careful what you wish for."

It wasn't broken last July for keving Gregg. He was still 'getting the job done'.

But when you're playing with fire you tend to get burned.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be closer, but he's not a great pitcher, that's my point. He can close for us and when his contract is up, take the draft picks he'll give us for racking up saves, regardless of his era.
