July 9, 200915 yr Once again Marlin fans OVER RATING Jeremy Hermida. He isn't even worth Matt Capps now! You guys have no realistic sense of trade value for a corner outfielder who can NOT drive in runs. Hermida is a #4 outfielder and isn't worth even a low rate closer- hate to tell you "I told you so". Do you read? Yes, I read the idiotic Jeremy Hermida posts every single day. The fans who say he's God and he's only 25. I also read the people above who say "Woooo Thank God we didn't trade a 1.5 million dollar corner outfielder who sucks at offense and defense for a decent closer". Why woouldn't you trade him now??? Cut ties already for anything....no maybe you're right. We should just hold onto him and trade him next year for a Jake Smolinski prospect.

When hermida was drafted I cursed the front office for taken him over kamir at the time they stated it was about money but in the end they both signed for about the same, now years later we all know they made a big mistake I always enjoy when Teal Shadow makes an appearance. One of the only fans who thinks logical and his posts have substance unlike Rab and Erick.

Not a great one, but not that bad. Though, I don't know why you bring anyone here overrating Hermida for Capps. The reason I asked if you read is because this thread is about how, if anyone, the FO valued Hermida for Capps, not "Marlins fans" "once again".

They're are probably one of the only on this board who's posts have substance.

The same thread I hadn't even posted on before you brought up my name. But really...it's nice to know you're thinking about me. The only thing that's stupid is the Marlins current infatuation with relievers b/c Matt Lindstrom (who absolutely sucked this year, anyways) is now on the DL. If we trade Hermida for Capps, who the hell replaces Hermida?
July 9, 200915 yr Author If we trade Hermida for Capps, who the hell replaces Hermida? Obviously the front office is not too worried on that score after all they've been trying to trade the guy since last summer and no takers. I would guess A) they have another trade they can do B) they're will willing to give Carroll a real shot as an everyday player because of his superior defense or C) Maybin comes up or D) any of three candidates at AAA or E) anyone with a pulse. Seriously, no one is going to lose a minute's sleep worrying about who to replace Hermida with. They've had a year to plan for that eventuality. In truth though, I don't know whether Capps is the right guy here, regardless of who we might trade for him.

In truth though, I don't know whether Capps is the right guy here, regardless of who we might trade for him. And? Every front office makes mistakes. Out of the 5 options, 1 (maybe 2...depending on how Maybin performs) sounds good. Hermida & Carroll are currently making a very nice platoon (regardless of all the criticisms). With that said, Carroll has been terrible against RHP...he's not an everyday replacement. Our lineup is not in good shape, at the moment. Trading another bat isn't the answer. The bullpen is not a problem. We have depth. Lots of it. As for Capps, he's a good/young reliever, who pounds the strike zone. He's not the problem. I'd easily take him, if we didn't have to give up a current bat in our lineup.
July 9, 200915 yr Bucs look like they are trying to trade Freddy Sanchez. I dont know about his contract situation but maybe a uggla/ prospect/prospect trade for freddy/ capps?
July 9, 200915 yr Author I know you believe you are smarter than the collective wisdom of the Marlins front office but let's see what they come up. I go with the flow, figuring they know things none of us do. Catcher is one thing but you can't have platoons at every position, you run out of roster spots and game options pretty quickly doing that. Sooner or later one guy needs to trot out to right field every night and that's his position, especially in a pennant race. Why do you think they have been trying to trade Hermida for a year?

First off, it's not a matter of me thinking I'm smarter than the front office. It's a matter of me having a f***ing opinion, with actual facts backing up my opinions. Second, they haven't been trying to trade Hermida for a year. More like the past month (unless if you're talking about the Manny Ramirez rumors last year, which is insane. If anything that says something for certain clubs believing in Hermida's potential...that's not just trading him for nothing). And a lot of that has to do with him underachieving this year, yes...also has a lot to do with his contract, and the fact he'll likely not be here next year. As for your statement about platoons, that is ridiculous. If a platoon works very well, you platoon. There are a lot of major league clubs...(contending teams, too) that platoon players. Hermida provides value against RHP (he's been one of our better hitters against RHP this year).

The guy everyone now loves (Brett Carroll) has a .520 .OPS against righties. Yet, for some reason, I'm sure that'd be more acceptable around here b/c Brett Carroll wasn't a 1st round pick, and he "gives a better effort." Sigh. I wouldn't be surprised if a deal like this happened. Beinfest made it pretty clear he didn't care as much for offense the day he traded for Emilio Bonifacio.
July 9, 200915 yr You guys are missing the bigger point here! The Pirates said "No Thanks" implying that Hermida was not worth trading Capps to them. For all of you Hermida lovers out there this speaks volumes so listen to what you're hearing.

We need his bat or any decent bat for that matter other than another arm.

For all of you Hermida lovers out there this speaks volumes so listen to what you're hearing. OH NO! Possibly the worst organization in all of baseball said no!?!? The Pirates...so smart with their 15 years of losing. So great that their fans wanted to boycott certain games last year to make a statement! So great that the players in the organization are complaining to the front office for giving up on them in the middle of the year this year. THOSE PIRATES?
July 9, 200915 yr Thank you Erick for placing me with people saying to start Carroll against both righties and lefties, as always you find a way to put words into other peoples mouths. The reason Hermida is tradable is because the team has seen Maybin has been contributing and playing very well for a long time now and is very near if not already major league ready. That obviously would mean calling him up soon (trade deadline when we trade Hermida) Maybin goes to CF, Cody to RF, and Coghlan stays in LF. Even then we still have guys like De Aza, Carroll, etc... to get place starts when these guys need a day off. Hermida is extremely expendable, and his lack of production for over a year and a half now is the reason teams value him less than some people here believe he is worth. At this point last year he was considered a key point to get Manny Ramirez, now he isn't even worth Capps in a package centered around him. At this point it seems blantant the front office wants some help in the bullpen in trading Hermida, seems like we still haven't found a team that really values him enough to trade their closer.

At least the front office is trying to make moves. It would have been great if that deal went through.
