The Official Giancarlo Stanton Man Crush Thread

Featured Replies

Stanton has more power than any 20 year old I have ever seen in the six decades I have been an avid baseball fan.

Power to all fields.

The only one close was ARod, but he wasn't real close.

Giancarlo is the next great power hitter.

A-Rod had 36 HR and 54 2B as a 20-year-old. That's still better than Stanton.

Stanton has officially surpassed Hanley as the franchise player. I too will be buying a Stanton jersey before anything else. I have to say Stanton is the most exciting rookie to ever wear a Marlins uniform, even moreso than Dontrelle and he is just getting better!

This is wrong. Hanley's stats for each of the last 3 years have been markedly better than Stanton's this year. And Hanley plays a way more demanding defensive position.

Hanley is still the best, but GCMS looks like he can be great.

In 600 ABs and he had 200 Major league at bats prior to that season. Plus he was probably on the juice lol.

Giancarlo isn't going to get a full season at age 20.

I am talking raw power not stats.

Fantasy baseball has ruined so many fans.

He was still twenty. He had over 1.000 OPS in AAA as a 19-year-old :lol

Get the f*** out.

And what's not "raw power" about 54 2B and 36 HR. GCMS could possibly top this over 600 AB, but likely he wouldn't.

And we get to watch him in a Marlins uniform for four more years.

I'm sure it'll be much longer than 4 more years.....

Well, stat boy, Giancarlo has 14 hr in 196 ABs.

BTW, ARod turned 21 in the year you cite.

Well, in 2014 Stanton will get $10M or so in Arbitration and will be ready to get $15 in 2015 and $20M in 2016 and he is a California boy and Loria won't want to let him go for nothing as a free agent - not to mention that Loria doesn't like to pay full value for a player anyway.

But four years is a long time and it will be a wonderful time to be a Marlins fan.

Can someone ban this multiple-accounts asshat?

So I'm "stat boy", yet here you are throwing out stats?

Who gives a crap if Stanton is 3.5 months younger? And you're telling me to ignore the numbers and trust YOUR eyes?

A-Rod had as many HR in July on that year as Stanton had in June AND July. And A-Rod had another 9 HR in August, and a 1.233 OPS. Stanton's been great so far, but to say he's the best in the last 60 years as a 20-year old..............just not [yet] true, no matter how hard you try.

Most power.

Not the best.

BTW, I have only one account here.

With my winning personality, I need only one.

In how many fantasy leagues do you participate?

Ugggh, I was referring to best power, but whatever. I'm done with you.

If you've been watching baseball for 6 decades, you should be at least 60.

Grow the f*** up.

BTW, StatBoy, in August of the year you cite for ARod , he was ...... twenty one.

Hard to believe Jake Smolinski was drafted ahead of Stanton!

Not really, like 40 players were drafted before him.

I will not disagree, Hanley is still the better player. Heck many say Ramirez is the best player in the majors right now, at least top three.... Howevever I would say that if the FO could only keep 1 player out of the Roster it would be Stanton first choice, Hanley 2nd and JJ 3rd

ROOKIE SEASONS

AROD: 146 G | .414 OBP | .273 IsoP | 5.0 Speed | 8.0 UZR | 9.8 WAR

STANTON: 54 G | .345 OBP | .301 IsoP | 5.1 Speed | 3.7 UZR (38 G) | 2.1 WAR

AROD had a better overall season but Stanton has displayed more power at that age. The only player in MLB history that has statistically shown to have more power than Stanton at 20 was Mel Ott (.306 IsoP). I can see Stanton surpassing that by the season's end. AROD and Stanton have also shown to be elite defenders at that age, but AROD position at SS was more demanding. Let's not forget though, that AROD did play in the steroid era, whie Stanton plays in a league where you have many good pitchers.

I think what's lost in his 2 HRs, he also threw someone out at 3rd.

His Arm rating in fangraphs should boost his UZR up, since he had only 1 assist last time UZR was updated 16 G ago. He compiled 4 more assists since then, and had like 3 in 5 games at one point. He would be on pace for 15 assists in a full season. Sick. Everyone talks about his hitting, but his defense is just as good.

A-Rod had a .334 ISO in July and .323 ISO is August. He had massive power then, too. But we're splitting hairs, and I'm done with it after this post. (A-Rod played when pitchers were using steroids, too, FWIW.)

Only Ozzie Smith's defense is as good as his hitting :lol

New drinking game. Take a shot of tequila every time Mike Stanton makes you smile. That's how I got drunk last night.....

I wonder if Stanton reads these threads. If he did, I think he'd be a little freaked out with this one lol.

No, freaking him out would be telling him that I have a picture of him hanging up in my locker at the gym. :mischief

You too?

Actually his defense might be even better than his hitting, as a hitter he still needs to mature a bit but his glove has been plus since day 1... I can easily see him getting a few GG in the upcoming years
