I swear I was hoping he would rip off that bright jumpsuit he was wearing tonight.

Stanton is starting to create buzz around the team and the city. Fans last night rose to their feet every time he came to bat. Scattered chants of MVP MVP could be heard last night. He's making it harder and harder to think about trading him away. I think Jeter and Co must keep him no matter what it takes. The city wouldn't see a trade as a smart rebuilding move they'd only see Jeter trading away our superstar player when he's at his best. We're winning with Stanton leading us and a trade would be a crushing blow even if it's done by Derek Jeter himself. It would absolutely look like Jeter not wanting to win and only wanting to save money even if the intention truly is to rebuild into a consistent contender. Keep Stanton.

Lets not kid ourselves. Trading Stanton would be seen for what is it. A salary dump of one of the premier players in the game, who like Jose when we lost him would be irreplacable. Any team swallowing his contract would not also be giving us grade A prospects to replenish our farm system. That whole thought is a mirage. Stanton is the face of this franchise. He is also earning the value of his contract and then some. Trade him away and you'll see how quickly Loria's image gets transposed on Jeter.

Only keep the Big G was useless, what we need to do was keep the whole core and adding some pieces.

This team is going to force Jeter and co to spend in the off-season.

pitching pitching pitching. Only position spots I might consider looking for are SS and 3rd base, but that priority is dwarfed by the need for pitching.  Keep this core intact.

Team could be a powerhouse with quality Starting Pitching.

It reminds me of the transition from 2011 to 2012 except that right now the team is showing more legitimate reason to spend than the 2012 team which felt more like they weren't ready to win but Loria forced a spending spree just hoping that they win to make a splash with the new ballpark. I don't know where the pitching will come from but this team sure looks like adding pitching would actually create a winner.

Also, hate to be Debbie Downer but it's pretty funny how much everyone suddenly believes in this team now when they're actually worse than they were to start the season.

When we had Bour Prado Ramos Phelps a productive Chen and a healthy Volquez everyone here called for a sell off and a rebuild but now everyone wants to keep the team intact based on how the team has performed with people like Worley Despaigne O'Grady Nicolino Telis Aviles etc. The scrubs are up and suddenly we're better. What a weird season.

It does, credit @taiwanmarlin for saying that incessantly weeks ago. Still don't know how a business can add more to payroll when losing so much annually but they may not have a choice.

Yep. It might be worth a shot for a year or two and it might be the only way for Jeter and Co to start on the right foot. If Stanton gets to 60 and we get a playoff spot or get extremely close to it suddenly fan interest rises and it's the worst possible time to rebuild. 2 months ago I told people "hate to rebuild but it's not like they'd be blowing up a winning team!" Suddenly they'd be blowing up a winning team with a guy chasing home run history and potentially a playoff team. My previous excuse won't fly anymore.

I saw a tweet saying Stanton has 28 HRs in last 44 games. If he continues that same pace over the last 35 games, he finishes with 71 HRs. A full season with this stance/approach would shatter Bonds' record.

49 HRs, 35 games left, 28 HRs over last 44 games... 49+(28/44)*35= 71.27

Homerun record watch in effect!

HR through 124 games played:

1927 Babe Ruth 44

1961 Roger Maris 50

1998 Mark McGwire 53*

2001 Barry Bonds 56*

2017 Giancarlo Stanton 49

That pace is ridiculous and would be unseen in baseballs history. I'm happy Stanton is wrecking everything right now but it won't happen forever.

Anyone seen Bob Nightengale's horrible article saying that even if Stanton wins the MVP and the home run crown that he will undoubtedly still be traded this offseason? It's amazing how some people are allowed to be called journalists.

Main stream media has been creaming themselves with Stanton trade stories. Jeter will decide and he hasn't taken over yet so they are just making shit up. I kinda hope on day one Jeter takes the mic and says "Giancarlo, you're going nowhere"

Exactly. This and Giancarlo has the final word. I think it's even less likely now that he'd want to leave. I truly believe he wants to be the face of sports in South Florida and he'll easily block every single trade to make that happen especially now that he's proven he can be that superstar. I just can't get over how often the media makes stuff up and passes it off as real news.

That I would love.

Imagine if this was Stanton's option year. He would be able to opt out and hit the FA market after this beast season. HNNNNNG

Would he though. His contract was severely back-loaded so he would have trouble topping what he is owed.

I think he would be able to get the same type of contract, heavily backloaded, for more years and more money.

He'd get a contract like Scherzer's. A percentage of the contract would be paid to him well after his retirement.
