September 2, 201015 yr I still want to know why Sosa got ejected. Veras was ejected, not Sosa. I wish it was Sosa
September 2, 201015 yr They showed a clip of Riggleman after the game saying he "liked" the fact Morgan stole the bases. He can cram it up his ass. A plunk for no reason (his railroad of Hayes was perfectly legal) is a free pass to steal, even in an 11 run game. In fact, it's probably more of a reason to steal.
September 2, 201015 yr Author #Marlins leaving Gaby Sanchez behind so he can start at safety for #TheU on Thursday vs #FAMU lmao

September 2, 201015 yr I've been trying to decide which player's jersey I want for a couple weeks, but Gaby just made that decision a lot easier. Great reaction from a great player.

It wasn't a dirty play, but you have to consider what Morgan did Saturday, and also consider the fact that his "instinct" last night was unnecessary. Had he slid, he would've been safe.
September 2, 201015 yr Can't say I really agree with Conine here. For those of us without TV – what did he say? He basically said what Volstad did was wrong in throwin at him a second time. I feel he's purely saying this in his own opinion as a former MLB hitter that wouldn't want to be hit in that situation either. I both agree and disagree. Also on ESPN, Riggleman agrees with what Morgan did both stealing the bases and charging the mound... So now we look like the heels instead of Morgan? And yeah I heard Conine's comments...he does make some sense, but did you see Allison William's face while he was saying that? hehe At least on ESPN, they are blaming Morgan more than the Marlins.

As a former hockey player, your instinct is going to be to railroad the guy. I'm not saying the guy's not a goon-ish baseball player, just that he really didn't do anything wrong baseball wise last night.

Dicking around the bases after a Home Run is also 'legal,' but it usually ends in a plunk nonetheless. Stealing bases in a blowout is legal as well, and people get hit because of it. You get the drift. It's not like Morgan doesn't have a history of being a douche either; it's pretty clear what his intentions were in going home the way he did.
September 2, 201015 yr Author If tonight's actions was the only things Nyjer Morgan did, then it's more debatable that the steals and charging the mound were justified. But if you look at his actions the past 2 weeks, you'll see that he has some serious issues. Throwing the ball at the fan was the worst, but Saturday against the Cardinals was uncalled for.

Aaron Boone called it a dumb play. And stealing one base? Okay, maybe one could let it slide. The HBP, if the Hayes play was questionable, is just the Marlins protecting their player, at least symbolically. One steal I can see the Nats and Morgan saying "hey, we don't agree with that so we are going to show you we still have some pep left." It was the first pitch that was stolen on, so it is clear Morgan was trying to send a message. But to also steal third, that is going above "Now we are even" to " I am going to try to get one over you." At least in my opinion.

And it should.
September 2, 201015 yr damn it!!! not even with mlb extra innings for 30 dollars a month can i see the f***ing post game show. i hate this.
September 2, 201015 yr Morgan doesn't steal 2nd and 3rd, the brawl never happens. He knew what he was doing, was provoking the Marlins even more.
September 2, 201015 yr Morgan doesn't steal 2nd and 3rd, the brawl never happens. He knew what he was doing, was provoking the Marlins even more. He had gotten plunked blatantly for no reason. I'm not defending the dude by any means because he's a scumbag but there's nothing wrong with stealing bases after being hit, no matter the score. Also, if you hit a guy then throw behind him on the first pitch in his next AB, something's going down no matter what.
September 2, 201015 yr You also have to add in that Murphy may have not gone after that ball as hard if Morgan wasn't on third and may have avoided inury. So Morgan was showing "disrespect" (in the Marlins eyes and some TV commenters have pointed out the unwritten rule of base stealing during a blowout) and, in the end, another Marlins player got injured for it.
September 2, 201015 yr By the way, is Leo Nunez not closing anymore? It seems that way. They brought him in to pitch the 8th in a 6 run game tonight. Edwin said he was still the closer for now a couple days ago, but based on the last 2 games, it sure doesn't seem that way.

Also, if you hit a guy then throw behind him on the first pitch in his next AB, something's going down no matter what. That's not true. He got plunked for bowling over Hayes last night and injuring him. You may not have thought that was a plunkable offense, but, as evident by some of the comments on this board last night, some did. I am sure the Nats knew too going into tonight's game that the Marlins were not happy with that play and some retribution was to be had. Even Riggleman said in his post-game interview tonight that the Nats were willing to let last night's play go to bed. It wasn't like this plunk came out of nowhere. So, if Nyjer thought the plunk was uncalled for, he knew the Marlins were "sensitive" to his actions. So again, one stolen base is enough to even the score, as you have said. But two? If the Nats and Morgan thought the play at the plate was totally legit and could not be avoided and the first HBP was uncalled for, why would they think that stealing TWO bases would pacifiy the Marlins after?

And it should. That's fine. But don't expect things to be settled when you've gone out of your way to one-up your opponent. Morgan railroaded our catcher days after a similar event in STL. When you've done wrong (because he did) and you're slapped in the face, you aren't going to retaliate without getting slapped again. What you're saying is almost like saying that if Hayes wouldn't have stood in front of Morgan, he wouldn't have had to railroad him and this whole thing would've been avoided. Hayes stood in front of Morgan because that's how you play baseball, and Volstad hit Morgan because that's how you play baseball. Obviously, Nyjer Morgan had a problem with being hit after what he did, and that's perfectly fine if you're looking to get smacked in the face by Gaby Sanchez. Morgan is obviously having a hard time adjusting to the rules of baseball. You'd think someone would learn eventually, but he comes out of the fight woo'ing like some sort of an imbecile who won a wrestling match.
