October 8, 201015 yr Timmy is the f***ing man. We are so lucky to have him wearing orange and black And thank you marlins for Cody Ross Did you used to be MaysBonds or something along those lines or am I way off?
October 9, 201015 yr I'm super pumped that every team I'm pullin for refuses to win a game. At this rate it's looking like Philly and Yankees once again, hooray.
October 9, 201015 yr Hooray for parity! How can you claim that MLB has less parity than the NFL, NHL, or NBA? Also, where was your hooray for parity when the Rays dropped 2 to the Rangers?
October 9, 201015 yr Well when there isn't a salary cap, we will always see the Yankees and Phillies in the playoffs. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they faced off in the World Series each of the next 4 years. There's no team that can really rival them. Why? Because they have the money to sign big name free agents, resign their own guys to long term big money deals, and can trade for guys like Halladay, Oswalt, and Lee because they have the money to be able to sign these guys to long term deals. Obviously parity isn't that much more in the other sports, baseball just strikes me because it's always going to be the teams with the most money wins (not always the team that drafts the best or makes the smartest signings, such as in basketball, football, and hockey). I'm personally sick of the lack of a salary cap in baseball. I know I sound like I'm just whining because the team I root for is a small market team, but I think baseball has more issues to fix than any other major sport (and I'm not just talking about the salary cap, there's a ton of things that need to be done to help make the game better).

Parity is less in every other sport. Parity isn't about the most expensive or the cheapest team, it's about the ability of a team to beat a better team. The NBA is the biggest one, obviously. The season hasn't started and we're already basically guaranteed a Finals of Lakers vs Heat. In the last 10 season, 5 teams have won the NBA Finals, and only 9 teams have made the Finals. On the other hand in the last 10 WS, MLB has had 8 different WS champions and 14 different teams in the WS. It's even more apparent when you realize that only the Phillies have made a repeat appearance in the last 5.
October 9, 201015 yr It has been proven in MLB that small payroll teams can win. It's not about the money spent; it's about what you do with the money spent. A salary cap does very little, if anything at all. Look at the NBA. Even the NFL has it's consistent dominant teams; a couple of years ago, the NFL would've had an undefeated team, if not for a lucky catch in the Super Bowl. Btw, dominant teams are good for sports. The Yankees are great for MLB, the new-look Heat are great for the NBA, and the Patriots/Colts are still great for the NFL. The only team sport that actually has parity is the NHL, if you think about it. And the NHL, as much as I love it, is not a popular sport in this country.
October 9, 201015 yr Adding NFL to that story, they've had 7 SB champions and 14 teams in the Superbowl. If you've watched the SB in the last 10 years, you've only seen 1 SB without the Pats, Colts, Giants, or Steelers.

Tell that to the guys who play in Sunrise (hey I made a rhyme). That's because the Panthers are full of suck. The NHL is the one sport where an 8 seed can beat a 1 seed in the 1st round of the playoffs, and I truly wouldn't be surprised. The complete opposite of the NBA.
October 9, 201015 yr I know, but I like to rip them for wasting 10 years of my various levels of hope watching them blow games in all kinds of ways, not to mention the late-season runs falling just short.
October 9, 201015 yr That's what they get for not resigning Craig Anderson. Volkoun was better last year than Anderson.
October 9, 201015 yr Also, going back to parity, only 3 of the top 10 teams in payroll are in the playoffs. The Rays, the Reds, and the Rangers are all under the halfway mark.
October 9, 201015 yr That's what they get for not resigning Craig Anderson. Volkoun was better last year than Anderson. Anderson has all the intangibles.
October 9, 201015 yr sigh. this is why i'm not a huge fan of playoff baseball. the braves always seem to choke. 4-1 giants.
October 9, 201015 yr Was Craig Anderson really brought up in an MLB Postseason thread? No, ignore it.
