March 29, 201113 yr While that pick sucked, no one after him was really special. The best players are Ian Kennedy and Hank Conger. Also, we got Andrew Miller and Sinkbeil from that draft. That hurts.

March 29, 201113 yr Good riddance, he was a douschbag when I saw him on my Atlanta trip. Just the way he treated little fans. That's just my opinion.

Yeah that Coghlan pick sucked and Miller was acquired in a trade How did the Coghlan pick suck? And I know we acquired him in a trade. I'm stating the fact that the 2006 draft gave us to very bad pitchers when we thought otherwise. At least, I thought otherwise.

I took it as the Marlins didn't draft anyone good in that draft., obviously Cogs is good! As a footnote the Marlins also got in that draft Ozzie Martinez, Cousins and Sanabia and a few others that have played in the majors most of them with Sinkbeil like stats and not that it matters now, but Sinkbeil was always good at signing for me and polite about it.

Nothing special about the bottom half of the first round.
March 31, 201113 yr never thought he would translate to anything good anyway. never expected anything from him even when he was drafted.
March 31, 201113 yr Hopefully he delivers pizzas better than he delivered his pitches. lol i guess its kind of mean when you really think about the consequences for guys with no degree and then get released.
March 31, 201113 yr Author He actually does have a degree, I think, but the transition back into real life can't be that easy (assuming he doesn't get picked up by another team). It's hard to feel sorry for him though. He got a $1.5 million signing bonus and MILB salaries are pretty lucrative.
April 1, 201113 yr It's not like he can't go back to school. He's 25. Never too late to go back. In my history class at my college [community college], there's some people in there that are in their 50s and 60s. They're probably there though so they can say "I remember when that happened!"
April 1, 201113 yr MILB salaries are pretty lucrative. “Minor League Baseball player contracts are handled by the Major League Baseball office. Here are the salary ranges: First contract season: $850/month maximum. After that, open to negotiation Alien Salary Rates: Different for aliens on visas--mandated by INS (Immigration). Livable? Certainly. But I make as much as a AA player does working as a temp for a newspaper.
April 5, 201113 yr Did he get the league minimum for being on the 40 man roster? If so that's $400K a year, right? Even if not, as someone mentioned, $1.5 million in 2006 is not too shabby. Too bad the team can't ask for some of it back...

April 24, 201113 yr Just to update on our former #1 pick, he's been signed by Pittsburgh and will probably soon join fellow Marlins cast offs Tim Wood, Chris Leroux and Dan Meyer in Indianapolis. For some reason the Pirate haven't finshed above .500 since 1992?
