I'm not saying that signing Ramirez is a bad idea.

I'm saying that if you give him a 2-3 year deal (probably not going to be less than 3), then Dominguez has no future with the franchise. He will have to be either traded or he will fizzle out on his own.

Having said that, Ramirez shouldn't be a priority if the Marlins are confident in Dominguez (for those reasons). I'm not a huge Dominguez fan, so I wouldn't mind trading him. However, I'd rather try to find a one year third basemen (or do Bonifacio at third and Infante at second) and spend most of that free agent money on starting pitching.

Wilson should be the priority. The Marlins should do everything they can to get him barring some other team overpaying to an absurd degree.

Just because we're the Marlins doesn't mean every prospect has to be in the bigs at 22

Show me another team that keeps its prospects in AAA for 3-4 seasons.

He shouldn't be in the bigs at 22 (as I said), but he should be ready by 2013 at some point in the season if he is going to have a future with this franchise.

Rays keep their prospects in AAA normally for 2 years. BJ Upton had a 3 year stretch where he played 314 games in AAA - average of 105 games per year.

I think a 2 year deal would be good and keep Dominguez down there for that time frame. If Dominguez forces his way in the line up, trade Gaby and then move Logan to 1B once A-Ram contract is up. It also gives us depth, something we've DESPERATELY needed and I don't think really ever have had (There's a reason 2009 was so good: We had basically no injuries all year)

Someone else here gets it. It's great to have depth, and prospects are the only guys you can stash in the minors without losing them. And having a talented player stuck in the minors is about the world's greatist problem to have.

Unless I'm missing something, I'm surprised we havent heard anything official from the FO about the plans for the rest of the season and off season with Coghlan considering he was our starting center fielder. Atleast something official. Hopefully he can get healthy and regain ROY form. If he can't stay healthy he's either gone or playing from the bench.

I'm not completely sold on Boni being able to keep up his current production. It wasn't so long ago we were hating on the guy. He has progressively been getting better but to me there's a good possibility that that if we slate him as a starter we will end up platooning again.

I'm no counting at all on Vazquez being back. Sounds to me like hes sold on retiring. Hopefully we can pick up some decent starting arms and no late minute additions in the form of Nate Robertson.

I think ARam will command a 3 year deal and I still don't have a problem with that as it relates to Dominguez.

Seems like a pretty similar path to chase utley. I guess I just dont see the problem with bringing a guy along slowly.

I could certainly live with this next year:

1. Bonifacio CF

2. Hanley SS

3. Aramis Ramirez 3B

4. Stanton RF

5. Morrison LF

6. Sanchez 1B

7. Infante 2B

8. Buck C

1. Josh Johnson

2. CJ Wilson

3. Anibal Sanchez

4. Ricky Nolasco

5. Volstad/Sanabia/Vazquez/FA pickup

I think that team can compete. But if they only add 1 position player, then I think getting CJ Wilson or another top-5 FA SP is a must, because a lineup with Buck, Infante, and Bonifacio still isn't blowing anyone away.

I'm not completely sold on Boni, but one reason I'm more high on him than Coghlan at this point is the fact that Bonifacio can keep his BABIP reasonably high through his speed. Coghlan seems to high ground balls at a very high rate, which he was lucky in his rookie year because many of them turned into hits, while the last two years haven't really seemed like an aberration in that department.

He's earned the chance to start next year, at least if all the other options are the ones we have currently in the organization. And out of all options, Bonifacio is the only one who has true leadoff hitter skills with the speed to make anything happen.

Well, 2 years for Dominguez is what I'm suggesting. People here don't want him starting until 2015, which would be almost 4 seasons in AAA. That's a big difference from what the Rays do.

While a 2 year deal on Ramirez isn't out of the question, I think it is unlikely. I think a competitive offer for him will more likely be 3 guaranteed years, which is more time than Dominguez should need if they are serious about him. I wouldn't call that having depth; I would call that having a player "blocked" by someone with an expensive contract.

The Marlins need to assess what role Dominguez will play for them in the future. If they think that he's going to be an everyday starter for them, they don't sign Aramis Ramirez to a multi-year deal.

I think ARam will command a 3 year deal and I still don't have a problem with that as it relates to Dominguez.

If Dominguez is going to be starter for this team in the future, you don't have him sitting on the bench for an entire season or more. That's a colossal waste. He'll need at bats. They will end up trading him before they do what you outlined above.

Furthermore, I don't think that Chase Utley is the best example, because the way the Phillies handled him was viewed somewhat disfavorably at the time. They signed David Bell to a multi-year deal, which effectively blocked Utley. Because of this they kept him in AAA longer than they should have and tried him at different positions (2B/3B).

I think ARam will command a 3 year deal and I still don't have a problem with that as it relates to Dominguez.

I don't have a problem with trading Dominguez if we have a proper third basemen. While normally it's nice to build around talented youngsters because they're cheap and they will be here a while, I just don't think Dominguez is good enough to make keeping him around a priority over fielding a competitive ballclub.

I don't have a problem with trading him, either. I'm just saying that signing any multi-year deal with a third basemen sends a message that they don't have confidence that Dominguez has much of a future with the franchise.

I'm really saying something pretty obvious; I'm not sure why so many people are taking issue with it.

Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez(notes) can be a free agent this offseason and MLB.com has it that the Florida Marlins are aiming to try and sign him. The Marlins, currently in dead last in the National League East, are moving into a new stadium next season and would like to move in with a team that has some offensive punch. Internally, the Marlins already view Ramirez as a possible fit for a lineup looking to mix in an established veteran to a youthful squad that includes Logan Morrison(notes), Gaby Sanchez(notes) and Mike Stanton(notes)," the site notes. The Cubs can try to keep Ramirez by opting to keep him for $16 million next season, but Ramirez can also void that and move on if he wishes. The site also reports that the Marlins will likely ask about Albert Pujols(notes), Prince Fielder(notes) and Jose Reyes(notes), but put some real effort into snagging Texas Rangers starting pitcher C.J. Wilson(notes)

Sounds too good to be true! Obviously a wish list, but someone(probably Ramirez's agent) is pushing this to the press

Joecap, just retweeted that Bo Porter is going to interview for the Manager job.

God I hope that's not our big name manager.

I can't remember, but is there a Rooney rule in baseball?

Yeah, they had it in MLB before the Rooney rule came around.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I didn't know they were interviewing yet or that they were :(
