September 16, 201114 yr Oh my, yes it is sweets. I would lose my f'ing mind if we got Fielder, Pujols or Reyes. Thats just a pipe dream for now.
September 16, 201114 yr Reyes at SS and Hanley at 3B solves so many problems. Throw in a legitimate star starting pitcher and look out NL.
September 16, 201114 yr Wow lets do this baby.... I say we move Gaby Sanchez for a #3 or 4 SP who is major league ready. The front office has decisions to make on: Chris Coghlan, Leo Nunez, Chris Volstad, and Ricky Nolasco. I say we try to package a couple of those players maybe for an above average outfield and/or pitching prospect ready to contribute in the majors.
September 16, 201114 yr What will our outfield look like next season?? We know Stanton will be in RF for a long time, but Will it be Morrison in LF and Coghlan in CF, or....... will Morrison be moved to first or traded? will Coghlan stay in center, move to LF, or be traded? Is Bonifacio our opening day CF?

You've got to realize that teams aren't going to trade above-average players for any amount of average/below-average players. Even if you want to argue that Nunez and Nolasco are above-average, which is a reasonable argument, they are going to be paid quite well next year for what will likely be so-so production. And I can't see them moving Nolasco, even if they add C.J. Wilson. They need a solid front 4, not just 3, to compete in the NL East next year.
September 17, 201114 yr Author Reyes at SS and Hanley at 3B solves so many problems. Throw in a legitimate star starting pitcher and look out NL. I want to agree, but I would still have reservations. Jose Reyes is having a tremendous season that I doubt he'll replicate, at least not repeatedly, in the future. Based on his 2011 season, I expect him to be thoroughly overpaid. We're talking about a guy with a .339 career OBP. And he has an inflated BABIP this year. His LD% is roughly his career average, yet his BABIP is .030 higher than his career average. And when he starts slowing down in a couple of years, it may not be pretty. Fangraphs also has him as a below average fielder each of the last 3 years,
September 17, 201114 yr Jose Reyes will be overpaid. I could care less for him, although it would be exciting to watch him and Bonifacio running the bases at the same time.
September 17, 201114 yr Author Jose Reyes will be overpaid. I could care less for him, although it would be exciting to watch him and Bonifacio running the bases at the same time. Reyes/Boni/Hanley/Stanton might be one of the fastest first 4 batters of all-time.

Reyes/Boni/Hanley/Stanton might be one of the fastest first 4 batters of all-time. 3 straight bunt singles and a GS, EVERY TIME.
September 17, 201114 yr The only concern about Reyes should be durability. He was brought up at a very young age and struggled early. However, since 2006, he's put up a .296/.352/.456 line with 46 SBs at an 80% clip. He's been excellent when healthy and clearly worthy of a $15 mil+ contract per year. The question is "Can he stay healthy?" It's been an issue for 3 years, but it wasn't before. That's the gamble. But the production is awesome. Especially the disappearance of Ks this year. Bodes extremely well for a decent aging curve. And the prospect of Gaby-Infante-Reyes-Hanley around the infield is awesome, and would give us the chance to trade Dominguez. Reyes SS Bonifacio CF Hanley 3B Stanton RF Morrison LF Gaby 1B Infante 2B Buck C Bench Baker Lopez Peterson Dobbs 5th OFer Cool. Trade Dominguez.
September 17, 201114 yr I am amazed that people are so eager to guarantee Emilio Bonifacio a spot in the starting lineup. Erick for example, who derides players who have an anamolous good season because of a high BABIP but he ignores Bonifacio had a .373 BABIP this year and was still fairly mediocre overall and is almost adament that he should be a fulltime player.
September 17, 201114 yr While I agree there's more than a little flukiness to his season, you also have to consider that his OBP is currently .039 higher than the league average. There's nothing mediocre about his season. And we are talking about a guy with a career .336 BABIP, so even though it will assuredly come down some, I don't think it's crazy to expect something like .260/.330/.340 from him, which would be slightly below average, but given his speed, would probably even out as an at least average NL player. Remember, the average OPS in the NL this year was .710. The Ks are still FAR too high, but the walks have improved enough where he's not going to totally torpedo your lineup with his OBP like he did in 09. And he's stealing based in volume and efficiently. There's enough there to be a starter.
September 17, 201114 yr it would be weird to see hanley at 3rd and quite honestly i would see reyes adapting to 3rd better. in my opinion, the guy that needs to go is gaby. hes a solid player and a great teammate but we need that scary hitter in the middle of the lineup. like howard, uggla, mccann, zimmerman. prince fielder would do the trick and he has already stated that he sees himself leaving the brewers.
September 17, 201114 yr Very impressed by the improvements of Bonifacio this year. Team MVP. Wouldn't be surprised to see him make another big step next year and cut down on the K's. Would love to see Reyes.. but think, of all the big free agents, ARam would be most probable because it would be a shorter contract. Would have no problem seeing a lineup of: CF Bonifacio 2B Infante SS Hanley RF Stanton 3B ARam LF Morrison 1B Sanchez C Buck BN: Baker, Lopez, Dobbs, Peterson, Helms Would be nice to add a nice bat as well as adding CJ Wilson.. not sure why I'm getting my hopes up but its nice to think about kidding about helms
September 17, 201114 yr As far as lucky and 2003, clearly the answer is bullpen. Has to be one of the worst pens to ever win a WS. Urbina and Fox were godsends. Surprised Fox's arm didn't fall off the last month of the season.. It felt like the last few months of that season and into the playoffs, fox-looper-urbina were the only ones to pitch out of the pen (as well as starters)

Sign Pujols/Fielder, trade Gaby.

Mike Stanton and Hanley Ramirez not good enough? Stanton may be better than all 4 of those guys right now, and Hanley has had better single-season OPSs than all of them except Howard, I believe. What are you smoking?
September 17, 201114 yr Author I meant to mention his durability. Otherwise, bob makes good points, although thr fielding still concerns me some. Also, I think he's a dick, but I'm sure I'd get over that rather quickly.

Stanton is better than Hanley. 2011 NL WAR top 10 (B-R): Kemp, Braun, Votto, Tulo, Sandoval, Stanton, Bourn, Victorino, Pujols, McCutchen and the Marlins have GOT TO sign a big name or two. Javy'z 7mil is coming off the books and payroll's supposedly going to be like 30mil more than it was this year.
September 17, 201114 yr and I hear I thought I was getting my hopes up for ARam.. wooooooo Ash! Not these days. Might as well call us the Yankees of the NL!
September 17, 201114 yr Obviously fielder/pujols will be pushing 200 mil... I'm curious as to how many years Reyes will command... I think he'll end up costing too much and too many years... which is why I think ARamirez may be most logical. Think a 3 year deal for him would be great.. especially if that 3rd year is an option year with buyout options. Would also allow us to either trade Dominguez or give him another year or two in the minors.
September 17, 201114 yr I think if we do go the Ramirez route, Dominguez stays. He seems like a stop gap option. I hope that isn't their plan, though. I think we need to sign one of Reyes/Pujols/Wilson/Fielder, and at the same time, bring back Vasquez. Those are high impact moves that could push this team to the next level, imo.
September 17, 201114 yr What about holding off on a mega deal this offseason and waiting until next year for a guy like Matt Kemp? I guess the only issue with that is the Dodgers might be able to negotiate an extension before then. The problem I have with giving all of that money to Reyes is that it doesn't really seem to fill a pressing need. The Marlins really have no CFer option in their organization right now (I like Bonifacio more in the infield).
