Posted November 17, 201113 yr Hey All, Dallas is getting married the first weekend in January and has decided to retire. I know some on here dont think he would have ever had made the show but I think this is a mistake. I think with the right organization he would have had a shot. Dallas still speaks highly of the organization and has enjoyed his time with the Marlins. I am happy to see the Marlins going after these big name free agents. I think they are showing they want to be competitive. It's been fun discussing baseball with you all these last few years. Best of luck to the Marlins.
November 17, 201113 yr I wish him well, technically he's still a minor league free agent, so if the right team came along he could certainly still be pitching professionally. Does this mean you are also retiring?
November 17, 201113 yr Burke Badenhop Eulogio De La Cruz Cameron Maybin Andrew Miller Mike Rabelo Dallas Trahern Well, I wish Dallas well in all his future endeavors.

November 18, 201113 yr best of luck to him, and thanks for stopping by every once in a while with the updates. :thumbup
November 18, 201113 yr Oh yeah trahernsfriend thanks for all your updates over the years!!! Congrats to Dallas...
November 18, 201113 yr So are you trashing the Marlins with that "the right organization" comment? I didn't think so. I think he just meant some times guys have a better shot at reaching the majors on a different team. Some times it's a numbers games or something else. Imagine being a infielder in the Yankees organization. Not really a chance you're gonna play at the ML level for them. Hell look at Uggla who was seen as a bench guy in the Diamondbacks system.

Yeah, but there really hasn't been a better organization to get to the bigs with as a pitcher than the Marlins in the time Trahern was here. Maybe the Padres but that's about it.
November 18, 201113 yr Something tells me trahernsbff doesn't like the Marlins organization because people on MB.com were mean to him. Needless to say, good luck to Dallas in his future.

Can't really argue that. We haven't been an organization that wouldn't give young guys a shot.

November 24, 201113 yr Author Came back to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving saw that the thread actually had some responses. Ill respond to all in one thread instead of responding to each individually. Fanofthefish, I wish I could retire but I am a youth pastor. Ill be working until I die. Mystikol, Actually he already lined up a really good job there in Florida which is the reason he decided to go ahead and retire. It is as a sales person for the company he worked for in the off season. I guess last month he closed the largest deal in Company history which is what set the wheels in motion for him to consider retiring. Mike, Not at all am I trashing the Marlins. In my opinion, each club has a preference for a style they want to play. Some like to play small ball. Some like get a couple of guys who can get on base and then have three big bats who can all hit homeruns to bring in runs. Some organizations are built on pitching. Some organizations, like the Marlins in my opinion, prefer pitchers who can strike a lot of guys out. That isnt Dallas. Dallas is a ground ball pitcher. I just think Dallas would have been a better fit other places. Nothing against the Marlins. Schneddlers, I know many on this board wont understand, and frankly even as his youth pastor I disagree with Dallas, but for Dallas this is much more a spiritual decision that anything else. He feels now that he is getting married his job is to be the best husband he can be. That includes providing for his wife financially as well as being there for her emotionally, spiritually, etc. He doesnt feel he can do so if he is playing baseball. He feels he wouldnt be the husband he needs to be if he is traveling. I told him he should give it one more year, and see how it goes because I think he will regret this decision. It's not that he doesnt think he can still pitch. He said he feels better than ever physically. The primary reason he made this decision is he feels God wants him to be a certain kind of husband. I must respect his decision even if I dont agree with it. Hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas.
November 24, 201113 yr Author Sorry, Dr. Bein, Frankly, that is the main reason I want Dallas to give it a shot elsewhere just so I could come back and say I told you so. But he's made his decision so I have to support it!
November 26, 201113 yr Some organizations, like the Marlins in my opinion, prefer pitchers who can strike a lot of guys out. Nah. Generally speaking, we prefer guys with ERAs below 5. Dallas never did that over a full season with the Marlins.

I just think Dallas would have been a better fit other places. Nothing against the Marlins. Dallas just didn't get the job done. The Marlins like guys who get outs. Just like every organization does. Strikeouts are valued by every organization because strikeouts mean the opposing hitter isn't making contact = better odds of getting outs. The Marlins aren't against groundball pitchers. All you have to do is look at the team's roster and it's pretty evident.
November 27, 201113 yr Burke Badenhop Eulogio De La Cruz Cameron Maybin Andrew Miller Mike Rabelo Dallas Trahern Well, I wish Dallas well in all his future endeavors. trahernsfriend Also, if the Marlins only targeted guys who can strike guys out, they'd probably have done a little better than 9th in the NL (14th in the MLB) over the past five years.
