That is pretty cool. Always nice to see somebody "voluntarily" help the less fortunate. Not to be confused with the gov't taking what you have and giving it to who they deem "less fortunate".

It's true; more often than not, those who get government aid live like kings.

All the but the absolutely least fortunate Americans live like Kings. We are the International 1%

If you're talking about unemployment or welfare you're an idiot. Kings as in compared to when the Black Plague was decimating the population? Someone loves Fox News....

Spoken like a resident of Broward County. Come on, now, EW, you know that your first sentence is not true.

Actually - spoken like a man that has been in 3rd world sh*t holes, where only the powerful have clean water and adequate nutrition. We are legitimately, the international 1% - in fact, the top half of US income earners are literally the 1% on a world wide scale and all but the bottom 10% are in the top 2% on a world-wide scale.

Poor folks ain't fat in Pakistan - or Guatemala for that matter.

I'm not saying the developing world doesn't suck; I'm saying your first sentence is an exaggeration. If half the people in the US are not in the top 1% of income earners internationally, it seems unlikely that "all but the absolutely least fortunate live like Kings" and are the international 1%.

I admit to hyperbole as to the "live like kings" bit, but literally, the top half of US income earners are in the 1% (income wise). The top 90% of US income earners are in the top 2% internationally. Unlike the majority of the world population, all but that absolutely least fortunate Americans have adequate nutrition, clean water, sanitation and climate controlled secure housing. Not to mention on-demand information and entertainment as well as measurable leisure time.

According to a special report from the U.S. Census Bureau, 46.2 million Americans are now living in poverty. The number of those living in poverty in America has grown by 2.6 million in just the last 12 months, and that is the

largest increase that we have ever seen since the U.S. government began calculating poverty figures back in 1959. Not only that, median household income has also fallen once again. In case you are keeping track, that makes three years in a row. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, median household income in the United States

dropped 2.3% in 2010 after accounting for inflation. Overall, median household income in the United States has declined by a total of

6.8% once you account for inflation since December 2007. So should we be excited that our incomes are going down and that a record number of Americans slipped into poverty last year?

Those b*stards how dare they live like kings. Only people that can afford to post on message boards, and act like pompous arseholes should be allowed to live with a living wage, and not incur the ravages of a decade of economic assault on their already precarious economic situation.

People in this country don't know how to manage their money. Its sad.

A lot of truth in this statement right here. Too many people have the mentality of "I have the money, why not spend it" instead of saving up. If you get money, save half or more of it, at least. [That's how I think people should do it, anyways.]

As Mike said, it's very true. Even now, people misunderstand fundamental concepts about markets and economics. For example, I hear this one, even from educated people: "It's a great time to buy the house; how could the market go down any more? Prices are already so low!"

Yeah its real easy to save money when you make minimum wage a week, with nearly 1/3 of that in federal taxes, and paying the outrageously unfair sales taxes - a tax that is unfair to lower wage earners and one of the reasons poor people stay poor.

I wish you guys had to live one month working on minimum wage with the poor in a slum apartment in Liberty City. You might change your minds on what its like to be poor in the great ol' US of A.

I'm not saying life isn't difficult or that saving is easy. But minimum wage earners in no way, shape, or form surrender 1/3 of their income in the form of federal income taxes. In fact, the personal exemptions and standard deduction are constructed to, when combined, eliminate virtually the entire Federal Income Tax burden on persons and families at or below the poverty line. They still pay the ~7% (I believe) FICA and Social Security taxes, but, once their refunds come in at least, that's typically all the Federal Income Tax minimum wage earners pay.
