"Moneyball" Is a Garbage Hollywood Misrepresentation

Let me preface this by saying that this isn't an indictment on the quality of film, or a criticism of the style of management, which ultimately has re-shaped the way front offices manage their teams. This is a complaint on the liberties and falsehoods that are laiden in the film. Firsty, the timing of many of the moves in the movie doesn't match up with when they were actually brought in. Secondly, there is no such person Peter Brand and the decision making was never solely based on OBP. My final complaint is that the film makes it out like putting Mark Hatteberg at 1st base led to an unpreciented 20 game win streak, when in reality it had a lot more to do with the fact that they had a 3 man rotation of Zito (2002 Cy Young winner) Hudson and Mulder in addition to the American League MVP Miguel Tejada. The movie was entertaining, but I can't get over the fact that the film overlooked some of the most important aspects of the team and painted a great group of scouts to be a bunch of idiots.

It's a movie........what were you expecting? Most people probably have no idea who these players are.

That isn't a problem for you? They made it seem as if David Justice, Mark Hatteberg and Chad Bradford were the main components on the team to give a false validity to the suggestions of a false character. This is supposed to be based on the 2002 A's which were a hell of a team, I guess even a passing mention of a Cy winner or MVP would be to much to ask for?

Peter Brand is Paul DePodesta.

Wrong.

What do you mean wrong? Depodesta didnt want his real name used so the writers made up another name.

It's Scott Hatteberg not Mark

I was think of Mark Walburg for some reason. Anywho, "

With Martin no longer involved, Jonah Hill was cast to play DePodesta. However, feeling the character was becoming fictional, DePodesta requested his name not be used. Hill's role was transformed into a composite character, named Peter Brand"

I guess you wanted the disclaimer "Based on real events". If you want realism read books and even then you only get the victor's side of the story.

I watched about 20 minutes, didn't like it, and stopped watching, so i don't know how much the fudged the facts but if they did I don't understand why they would do it.

They did not "fudge the facts".

They simply presented a more dramatic version of the events.

Yes, the Big 3 pitchers were barely mentioned. Because "We have 3 CY Young Candidates" doesn't make for compelling drama.

Because if they went strictly by the facts, the movie would only be interesting to A's fans. It was a pretty good movie. Get over yourself.

I thought the beginning was one of the most interesting parts, all the dramatized behind the scenes scenes. What didnt you like about it? I mean for a baseball movie, something your obviously would be interested in, I don't feel 20 minutes of the movie could give you enough time to form an accurate opinion.

It's not like your watching date movie or epic movie or some junk like that.

I thought you'd hate it.
