Letting his manager manage the team. I like it.

Probably in the minority but I feel bad for Heath.

It's hard for me to feel bad for him when he is guaranteed $27 million regardless of how poorly he performs.I support performance based pay. You know, like in real life.

ummm...contract labor is pretty common. He is being paid, and deservingly so, on a precedent that he set. He just currently isn't living up to it. Contract labor is "real world".

Our closer's rankings coming into the day among relievers

Swstr% (% of swinging strikes): 4.2 % ----> only Burke Badenhop has been worse (3.3%)

Contact %: 89.2 % ----> again, only Burke Badenhop has been worse (90.9 %)

*Burke Badenhop actually has an excuse since he's a sinkerballer who gets groundballs, as we all know.*

K%: 11.6 % (5th worst)

Relievers who are worse: Will Ohman (lefty specialist), Rafael Dolis (terrible), Alex Burnett (mediocrity), Nathan Adcock (long reliever/spot starter)

BB%: 14.0 %

*There are plenty of relievers with a worse % and some are good, but all of the good ones have a significantly higher K% to make up for it.*

xFIP: 5.96

*This actually changed today; his xFIP is now at 6.26, making him THE WORST among ALL RELIEVERS in the category.*

SIERA: 5.38

*The worst*

**xFIP and SIERA, depending on who you ask, are the best indicators of what his ERA should look like.**

Not only does he suck, there is nothing positive to look forward to.

Like, for example, in Josh Johnson's case, you can nitpick some things....

...not with Heath Bell. Heath Bell is currently.........THE WORST RELIEVER IN ALL OF BASEBALL!

He's our guy!

For relievers you are better off citing K/BB, I think, than K and BB rates on their own.

Bell is 0.83, which is second worst in all of baseball. That's after Rafael Dolis of the Cubs, who I never even heard of until now.

After walking two and K'ing no one today, Heath Bell is now the worst in that category, as well.

I've always disliked how the Marlins organization handles demotions, whether to the minors or just in a role. We drop guys down after they have struggled only to bring them back a short time later when they've scarcely had time to work out their issues.

Well its worked with the starters. And really what else can they do cut them? Sometimes they are brought back up by necessity, like for example right now Gaby is an injury away from coming back up.

Probably in the minority but I feel bad for Heath.

I think you can feel for the guy & what he's going through, and still not want to see him out there in the 9th inning of a close game.

I'm not even sure if the answer is moving him to the 7th or 8th either, unless we've got a good lead perhaps. You can ruin a close game pretty easily there too. It's almost like I only want to see him with big leads (which unfortunately never happens) or working it out in AAA. Because he needs to pitch his way out of this or work with someone who can figure out why it has gone so wrong.

Just baffling.

You can only blame Bell so much for being terrible. It's not as if he's trying to be bad.

The people making the decision to use him, however, is another matter entirely. I've said it before; the level of stupidity is incomprehensible. Like something out of this world.

I thought they put him back in that closer role rather quickly. Because Cishek blew a save? But then he seemed to be getting guys out. Now the bad Heath is back again.

I can't bring myself to boo one of our own. Nor can I openly root against one of our own like some do. I pull for them whether I like them or not. But this is a real head scratcher. It has to be figured out.

Cishek blew a save after his right fielder allowed a guy to get to third base on what should have been a single. It wasn't as if Cishek looked incompetent or had a meltdown out there.

So my theory on this is that he has gotten lucky that he really hasn't had that one outing to end all outing type of outing. He keeps getting his ass saved by someone (Stanton and Cishek). This guy just needs to blow a 3 run save (away, so it'll be a walkoff) in dramatic fashion to be sent down or something.

That's BS!!! No one tries to be bad, but when your fat to begin with and then get a big contract and show up to spring training even worse shape there is a problem. They need to send him to AAA and not call him up tell he losses 25 lbs! And make it be know thats why he was sent down. It just might embarrass him enough to get him into shape.

Why do people keep bringing up the fact that he's fat? He was fat in SD, too. That's just irrelevant.

And why is there all this yakking about sending him down?

Bell has the 5 years of service that allows him to refuse any assignment of his contract. He can't be "sent down" without his consent.

Ozzie said today that Bell is still the closer.

ugggggghhhhh

What's even more LOLworthy is the Herald headline with the Ozzie quote saying Bell is "my guy."

It's times like this we miss your sig.

"Marlins Demote Heath Bell to AAA Because 'He's Fat'"

That should go over big. No more majors until you losses 25 pounds!
