I mentioned this already, but at the Winter Meetings it was widely reported the Rangers casually offered then top prospect (I believe 7th overall) Justin Smoak and Neftali Feliz (then top 10 prospect as well) for Josh Johnson, and the Marlins didn't even think twice before rejecting it.

 

I remember we discussed that on this board, and even many people on this board would've had a tough time turning that deal down. And that was when JJ was at the best he's ever been. Texas has been interested in Johnson for at least three years now. But they LOVE Profar, and really really like Olt/Perez/Martin. They're privileged to have both a stacked major league and minor league squad.

How do Rangers respond? Does not appear it will be with Josh Johnson. Maybe Shields, or maybe bullpen help with Ogando to rotation.

Don't believe everything you hear. It's all a mind game. Things leak in purpose. Just like there was a 95% chance JJ wasnt being traded 2 days ago

Tampa Bay is 2.5 games back from the wildcard as of today. With Longoria coming back, they might as well play for the rest of the season with Shields. Come on, we gotta catch a break sometime this year.
