Exactly. This is how the Marlins should be doing business. Set the market for JJ unreasonably high and hope Texas gets desperate and offers something close to your demands (imo that would be Olt/Perez/Martin and one more lower level prospect). When the Marlins say Mark T. type return, I'm thinking 3 star prospects and an add on guy who could maybe turn into something decent. I love JJ, but if we can somehow get something like that from Texas, that would be the best possible return we could ever get for Johnson.

I think most people are fine with that, especially with the Rangers. But didn't you throw out some Angels package they could offer earlier for JJ with Bourjos as a centerpiece? Fish need a lot better than that.

If history serves correct, with this much buzz it tends to be accurate with us, JJ is gone-but this time, it better be for the kings ransom.

Damn, sh*t is gonna get real soon lol. I love JJ and if we end up keeping him im not gonna be mad. But right now with the way things are going, I think trading him is the best possible thing we can do IF, and thats a big if, the return is right.

 

Olt is that other power bat that we need, fills the hole at 3B, plays good D and is young and ML ready.

 

Perez is a good lefty that everyone is high on and slides right into the rotation on day 1. And it seems like Buehrle is the first lefty starter we've had in years so it will be nice to have another.

 

Leoyns Martin has the speed to man CF for us for a long time and also fills a need. He doesnt have the power but hes gonna get on base a lot. Hes also got a really good glove and hes also ML ready.

 

If you can get that type of return for JJ then you 100% have to do it. That makes this team sooo much better going into 2013. Just sign a short term guy to play LF till Yelich is ready and 1 more top starter to go with Buehrle Perez Turner and either Nolasco or Eovaldi and move Boni to 2B and I think we compete. Dont trade JJ for a half ass deal though.

I think a good haul for JJ should be comparable, if not much better, than what San Diego received in dealing Latos this off-season. Yes, Latos is under team control for a while, but the Reds still gave up two 1st round picks in Grandal and Alonso along with Volquez to get Latos, who only had a year or two of solid performances.

 

I'm more on the side of keeping JJ so at least we have some optimistic outlook on 2013 to anchor our rotation. Let alone he'd be a good guy to extend this off-season if he shows he can stay healthy this full season.

Hes ready right now. The only reason he isnt up is because the Rangers have Beltre locked up so hes blocked. Martin is already up in the bigs now.

I would say Olt is ready right now and the only reason he isn't up is that the Rangers have him completely blocked .... then again I'm biased after watching this kid mash for our surprise saguaros in the arizona fall league (and sharing the hot corner with matt dominguez)
