For what it's worth the dodgers are in the Johnson sweepstakes while the dempster trade is on hold.

Angels need to make that move for Greinke. Then maybe another minor injury to a Texas pitcher and we got them.

I don't feel as if the Dodgers would have enough to convince the FO to let JJ go. Not even a package with Zach Lee.

The Marlins seek a Mark Teixeira-like package for Josh Johnson, Jon Heyman reported yesterday. In other words, Miami seeks at least three good young pieces for the right-hander. The Blue Jays are pursuing Johnson and the Rangers, Angels and Orioles also appear to have interest. Here's the latest, with the most recent items up top:

• "The Marlins are leaving no doubt that they intend to trade" their ace, tweets USA Today's Bob Nightengale. The Rangers are among those "still heavy" in pursuit of Johnson.
  
• There's lots of debate in front offices over Johnson's availability, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick writes (Twitter links). One GM says the Marlins "want a ton" for Johnson, but Crasnick suggests the Marlins would move the right-hander under the right circumstances.
  
• The Marlins are asking for each team's top two or three prospects in trade scenarios involving Johnson, Crasnick adds (Twitter links). It'd take Jurickson Profar-Travis d'Arnaud types to get talks moving and "a lot more" after that.

According to Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington, no one is completely off the table during trade discussions as we move closer and closer to the deadline, with one exception: Jurickson Profar.

 

Currently ranked as the top prospect in baseball by ESPN’s Keith Law, the Rangers have zero intention of parting ways with the 19-year-old any time soon. At least that’s what Washington told Jim Bowden of ESPN recently, via the Dallas Morning News. On Sunday, Bowden Tweeted (all sic, per the usual):

 

“Ron Washington told us that Profar is going nowhere but everyone else has to be considered in deal even for a rental this is their WS window�

 

Profar is currently hitting .290 for Double-A Frisco, with 12 home runs, 48 RBIs and 60 runs. He turned some heads during the Futures Game a couple weeks ago, when--as the youngest player in the game for the second consecutive year--he homered in the World squad’s losing effort.

 

The very next week, he emerged as Law’s top prospect.

 

Meanwhile Profar’s Frisco teammate, third baseman Mike Olt--who is among Law’s Top 50 Prospects as well--has been an oft-used name in trade rumors involving Texas.

Yeah, we're not getting Profar, much less Profar and d'Arnaud much much less Profar, d'Arnaud and more on top of that.

It would be a legendary trade if they were able to pull off Profor & d'Arnaud though if they only have to give up JJ .............

this is what I was saying all along, but most of you believe that the extra year on JJs contract makes him a more valueble asset but it doesn't for teams thinking championship in 2012

In all seriousness - I wonder what Toronto thinks about their C situation - Arencibia isn't a bad young player there and d'Arnaud has been killing it in the minors and is obviously well thought of

 

It looks like d'A has only gotten a couple starts at 1B, so maybe they were thinking of some creative ways to keep them both up ....... however, at this point both guys are injured............

Rangers' preference seems to be: 1. Greinke 2. Johnson 3. Shields 4. trade for bullpen help, move Ogando to rotation.

 

It's simple. We kill the Greinke.

We'll they just lost some leverage with Greinke going to Laa. Plus the pressure of a team within their div making such a huge move.

Angels outbid the white sox and rangers which shows me maybe they are not giving up suppose top prospects. I'm sure Rangers could have easily acquired greinke with their farm system. As what van damme said

This really is a win-win situation for us.

 

Rangers get desperate and overpay for JJ with giving us their top 3 or 4 prospects, or we keep JJ.
