August 7, 201214 yr Just getting rid of nolasco will be so great. I cant even look at his face. His stuff is absolute f***ing garbage. I don't know how he did so well in 2008.
August 7, 201214 yr If the Marlins decide to have a firesale this time, the franchise will truly be dysfunctional for many years. The problem wouldn't even be getting rid of the players themselves, but rather the player contracts = less than stellar returns. And considering what this front office has done lately, it'd likely be absolute crap. There's no way they can trade the likes of Reyes, Buehrle, etc. and except any fans. I'd consider not caring anymore, honestly. I really have no problem trading players, but not that way.
August 7, 201214 yr If we come back next year to find JJ, Reyes, and Buehrle gone, and the whole roster filled with AA players, then don't expect me to go to any games. I'll still watch them on TV even though I'll be pissed, but I won't put another dime into the team with tickets and merchandise until the front office is replaced and Loria is gone. If they honestly think that the attendance will go anywhere but down by getting rid of the last few big pieces, then they have been drinking a little too much at the Clevelander.
August 7, 201214 yr I highly doubt they would just get rid of Reyes and buehrle. If they did that I think selig would step in. Seriously. Just last night Juan Rodriguez interviewed Samson and said the team wants to build around Reyes and Stanton. And people are acting like the marlins are getting no fans. They made a huge improvement and their average percent of capacity is 12th in baseball. Maybe if they played a little f***ing better they would have over 30,000. They said none of the moves were financially driven and the ownership better hope for their sake they weren't. Well, average percent of capacity is misleading, considering the stadium is on the small side. They are 18th in average attendance, which is still pretty damn decent and would certainly be better if the team didn't lick the baboon coochie. Hopefully, with some craftiness and miracle working, the're able to unload parts or all of two of the Buck, Bell, and Nolasco contracts in the offseason. And reinvest that into Stanton's longterm deal and a FA CF. 18th in league attendance is appalling in the first year of a new stadium. My god, with all the random people showing up to check out the new digs, and the best they get is 18th?
August 8, 201214 yr The replacements need to operate with sabermetrics in the front of their minds. For the love of God, yes. The Marlins might be the most mid-evil team in baseball in this respect. f***ing speed and RBIs! RBIs? Who on this team has been an RBI guy in recent years?
August 8, 201214 yr My 2 cents: Loria and Samson has a strong presence in the daily baseball op. People will come and go but nothing significant will change. It does not mean that we can't see some great talents and good baseball games down here. (By the way, it is fun to watch a game where Cabrera, Infante and Sanchez are playing against Beckett, Ross and A. Gonzalez.)

The Marlins might be the most mid-evil team in baseball in this respect. f***ing speed and RBIs! RBIs? Who on this team has been an RBI guy in recent years? I was talking about the archaic way this team judges and values it's players. Thought that was plainly obvious from the preceding sentence.
August 8, 201214 yr After reading this lovely article from David Hyde: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-marlins/fl-hyde-miami-marlins-0807-20120806,0,594249.column It seems pretty clear that the FO shouldn't face the brunt of the blame for some of the worst moves. This article claims the only reasons we signed John Buck, Heath Bell, and a few others were due to Loria's interference. Very unfortunate... Hey Loria! Let Beinfest RUN THE TEAM... you know the job you pay him for!
August 8, 201214 yr I've read Dave Hyde articles for years. He's not necessarily a bad writer, but he writes in a similar style to Rick Reilly. Not a lot of facts in what he says, just a lot of opinion and stuff that comes from out of his butt. He doesn't have access to the Marlins day to day activities, and he doesn't list any source from within the Marlins organization that said that all major decisions are essentially covered in Loria's blood. It's another basic, bullspit article which is based on what the media and fans have been pro porting as fact for years, even if it isn't. Basically, it's just another piece that's only real purpose is to fill space in the Sports section. Opinion pieces are really just that.
August 8, 201214 yr There needs to be changes, I'm not going to be stupid and say I think everyone should be gone because we did in fact spend money and our attendance numbers ARE in fact middle of the pack in major league baseball, we've never been able to say that in our history. It was stupid of them to think this team was destined for the World Series, I said before the season started that the team would finish .500 and that doesn't even look like a possibility at this point. That being said I think the frontrunners on those who need to leave are Beinfest and Guillen the proof is in the pudding.

Let Beinfest RUN THE TEAM... you know the job you pay him for! Op-eds suck it's the reason I decided not to continue a career in journalism. There is too much crap around now days and reading into a lot of these articles just confuses you from knowing the actual truth. The actual truth is that Beinfest has failed in a lot of areas when it comes to the farm system and that is being seen in full right now. I'm not saying Loria didn't have anything to do with this past year's moves (Bell) but I cannot fault the owner over the President of Baseball Operations at this point, it just doesn't work like that. He's had plenty of time and the Marlins have gotten worse, it's time for a change.
August 8, 201214 yr the proof is in the pudding. Now, now, be nice to Heath "Puddin'" Bell. He didn't mean to eat the season. I don't know about you, but I don't expect to find anything in my pudding except pudding. The efficacy of Beinfest or Guillan is seen in their results, which is why the saying is "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." And, just as people can disagree about the quality of a pudding after eating it, so do people disagree about whether Beinfest and Guillan know what they're doing after having seen the results of their efforts. And, no, I'm not just picking on you -- I pick on everyone who butchers that great 400 year-old saying by turning it into gibberish.
August 8, 201214 yr I want 3 of the teams scouts replaced. Replace the ones responsible for the teams busts. Then give the new president of baseball operations power to fill those 3 spots. I want Hill and Beinfest replaced. I want Dan Jennings replaced. The replacements need to operate with sabermetrics in the front of their minds. That's all. I totally agree with you regarding Jennings, he did nothing for the Rays and he's been here long enough to make a positive difference. Think we need a change with Beinfest and Hill, but I'm a little unclear which 3 scouts you would fire, I'm sure the scouts recommend the talented players, but have a feeling the FO doesn't want to spend the money for better players. Also they need to invest more money in foreign scouting the D.R., Venezuela, hell Japan for that matter have they signed a Japanese player since 2002?A Japanese scout shouldn't be a priority. There aren't exactly a ton of good Japanese players in the bigs. The three can really be anyone, but whoever pushed hardest for the busts we've had need to go. I say 3 so its new blood without firing too many people. the only scout the fo need is a latin scout, because that the only players their want are latin players.
August 8, 201214 yr I'd like to see a new conditioning philosophy in place along with a fresh pair of eyes on the medical side of things.. whoever needs to be replaced to make it happen should go.
August 11, 201214 yr If we Get rid of Jose and Buehrle anytime soon, I will be beyond f***ing pissed. He did say, "in the coming years." Basically, that's not saying anything. He's saying more with the 25% less attendance than they anticipated. At 28.4K average now, one has to wonder what it will end up at when the season is finally over. And very soon there will be the blitz for season ticket sales for next season. First for current holders, then the general public. That will pretty much set the mark for what the payroll will be for next season. Like it or not, "Money coming in will equal money going out." They stick by that mantra. It will never be as low as it was because of the added all around income the new pond brings, but I doubt it will be as high as it was at the start of this season.
August 11, 201214 yr Author The put said that " money going out will equal to money coming In". That's all well and cool but they also said we would be competitive which we haven't. I think for there sake, the should try to spend some more money next year to show that commitment then follow thr money rule they spent out.
August 11, 201214 yr "money going out will equal to money coming In". That's what happened, more or less. What's the problem? they also said we would be competitive They said we would have a "competitive" payroll which would be, for the first time, at least in the middle of the MLB pack. Which we were and are. 100 million, give or take, is actually above about 3/4ths of the pack. 80-odd million takes you the middle. Nobody knows whether anyone will actually "compete" before the fact. Loria has claimed that they would compete in 2004 and every other year since, regardless of payroll or revenue. What happens next year depends on what revenues look like, which is a moving target. We'll find out over the winter whether season ticket holders were playing games or not (calling BroncoBob.) I also can't wait to hear who the hell is actually going to be the stadium sponsor -- I was wrong that they would finalize this deal within 2 months of the season starting -- here we are 4 months+ into the season and it's still "Marlins Park." That's a lot of revenue dollars foregone. That bothers me more than any trade they have ever made.
August 11, 201214 yr I have a suspicion that it will end up being Bacardi Park, or Caribbean Cruise Lines Ballpark, or something like that. Not too many companies in the area have that kind of money. Though you never know, we could get lucky and attract a nice multinational corporation.

Though you never know, we could get lucky and attract a nice multinational corporation. They may just leave it as Marlins Park. It's clear Pepsi and Miccosukee have big sponsorship deals so maybe they don't need a title sponsor.
